100 Things To Do In JB – Sorted By Category Like Malls, Spas, Theme Parks & Cafes

Ultimate guide to things to do in Johor Bahru

Whether you’re looking to splurge at mega malls, pamper yourself at relaxing spas, scream your lungs out at thrilling theme parks, or chill over coffee at aesthetic cafes, JB has it all. To make planning easier, we’ve rounded up 100 things to do in Johor Bahru, neatly sorted by category so you can explore exactly what you’re in the mood for.

– Where to shop in JB –

1. Shopping malls in JB

There’s no denying that one of the biggest draws of our neighbours is the affordability of things relative to SGD. So, it’s also no surprise that we find ourselves continuously flocking to the many, many shopping malls in JB.

The closest to the checkpoint is City Square, where you’ll find plenty of food options like AK Noodles House, Kimdo BBQ, and even a Family Mart. Those looking for beauty treatments like manicures, hair spas, and massages can head to either Holiday Plaza or KSL City Mall. While you’re there, check out the BBT stand, Ta-daa Box, for a surprise plushie with every drink order.

Other popular malls are Mid Valley Southkey, Toppen Shopping Centre, and Paradigm Mall, where you can indulge in the Dipndip chocolate buffet. Head down to Tsutaya Bookstore AEON Mall Tebrau City to snap some IG-worthy pics and pick up a few books.

2. Johor Premium Outlets

Johor Premium Outlets (JPO) is the place to go for hefty discounts on branded goods from familiar brands such as Coach, Tory Burch, Fossil, Fendi, Tommy Hilfiger, and Bottega Veneta. Like most factory outlets, prices here are slashed for all sorts of luxury designer products, as well as sports brands such as Nike and Lululemon.

3. Thrifting

When it comes to thrift stores in JB, one has plenty of options to snag affordable second-hand clothing. Redchilli vintage store is a cute little store mainly selling graphic tees and customised jerseys; Bandoru Bundle Johor can be found hidden in Angsana Mall, where they’ve got a good stock of winter clothing; while Rezeki Bundle JB near Mount Austin has a wide selection of cargo pants and vintage jeans.

4. Ninso Nusa Bestari

JB’s answer to value dollar stores is Ninso Nusa Bestari – 2 storeys of household essentials and snacks. And yes, a lot of the goods, like 1L soda bottles and potato chips, cost less than S$1. You can also stock up on items such as detergent, toiletries, and tissue boxes. If you’re looking to renew your water bottles, buckets, stools, or even replenish stationery, you’ll find it all here.

5. LIT UP 21 sneaker store

Perhaps their most popular items are the different models of Nike Air Force 1 shoes.

Sneakerheads will surely have hit up this spot, but for the rest who have yet to hear about Lit Up 21, listen up. It’s where you’re going to find limited-edition sneakers, streetwear apparel, and collectible toys like BE@RBRICK. Browse their online store beforehand to see if they’ve got something particular you’re looking for.

6. Jaya Grocer Eco Galleria

Image adapted from: @jayagrocer via Instagram

With household items out of the way, next on your shopping list should be groceries. Supermarkets near the causeways are aplenty, and Jaya Grocer Eco Galleria is a good contender. Besides fresh fruits and vegetables, there are also rows of shelves stocked with snacks from Australia, Japan, and Korea. Plus, there’s an in-house bakery with freshly baked goodies.

If you’re looking for even cheaper items like baking supplies and beauty products, check out these wholesale stores in JB.

7. Spectacles & contact lenses

Time to upgrade your eyewear to the latest trending frames? Optical shops in JB will have you covered with their wide range of spectacles and affordable prices. Order your prescription lenses and even get them sent to your home in Singapore – many of them offer doorstep delivery services.

8. Pharmacies

There’s also affordable skincare, just like our local drugstores.

Panadol, antihistamines, vitamins… restock your medicine cabinet with supplies from the JB pharmacies. Needless to say, you’d save some moolah getting your usual drugs and supplements. Get your hands on things like effervescent tablets, iron pills, herbal remedies like Pei Pa Koa, lozenges, band aids, and eye drops.

9. Avery-Day

For a trip to the convenience store, Avery-Day is the chain you want to visit. Each outlet has a slightly different design, like the one opposite KSL City Mall has a Santorini theme, while Avery-Day Nusa Bestari is desert-themed. You’ll find imported snacks from Japan, Korea, and Taiwan, as well as blind boxes.

– Indoor activities –

Beyond retail therapy, other ways to escape the scorching sun are to park yourself at one of the dog cafes and cat cafes in JB, catch a new flick for much cheaper, or wake up your adventurous side. Even the rain won’t be able to dampen your mood when there’s so much fun stuff to do indoors.

10. EnerG X Park

An “all-rounder” might be the best way to describe EnerG X Park – an indoor activity park located within Sunway Big Box, with more than 5 zones of adrenaline-inducing fun. Daredevils must head to the parkour zone, where a red trampoline will yeet you into the air for a flying start.

The zip line and obstacle course guarantee some extra fun too, at 1.5 and 3.5-storey high respectively. Finish off strong with a free-fall slide that’ll have you landing safely on an airbag. All this fun costs just RM58 (~S$16.65). And if you’ve decided to stay the night, X Park Iskandar Puteri chalet is simply around the corner.

54. Gunung Pulai Recreational Forest

While the hike at Gunung Pulai Recreational Forest is often called “beginner-friendly”, there’s still a bit of a challenge, depending on the route you take: the main road trail or the jungle trail.

The main road trail follows a simple 5km walk along a tarmac road to the summit, whereas the jungle trail takes a steeper 3km scenic route through Gunung Pulai’s native flora and fauna. There’s also a waterfall just 20 minutes away from the main gate that’s worth the detour before the summit.

The Sultan’s official residence draws many visitors not because of the palace itself, but for the iconic Royal Crown Arch. 100. Kotajail

Image adapted from: @eventjoho, @johobaru via Instagram

At first glance, Kotajail’s eerie disposition and facade might be a turn-off. But the former high-security prison has since transformed into a creative hub that combines gritty history with modern art. Its cells, once used to house prisoners, now serve as immersive gallery spaces with installations and murals reflecting the building’s 142-year-old past.
