2. Coffee Tea Library – Countryside-like greenhouse cafe

No, you haven’t just been teleported to the countryside. Coffee Tea Library is, in fact, located in the heart of Tanglin, right next to Lucky Saigon Cafe. The sitch here is simple: lots of tea and cute swings for seats. Despite the name, coffee isn’t on the menu yet but will be available soon.

Whether you prefer your tea red, black or green, they’ve got tea leaves of all varieties to choose from, sourced from Taiwan, Japan, China, and Vietnam.These come served in pretty glass teaware. We recommend bringing a book to enjoy at this cafe, since the large windows provide plenty of natural light that’s perfect for reading.

3. Alchemist Somerset – Japanese garden-style outlet at The Heeren

You don’t need to go to cafe hop regularly to know of Alchemist, best known for its picturesque outlets. After the closure of its minimalist-style cafe at Design Orchard, the chain returns to Orchard Road with possibly its prettiest edition thus far at The Heeren.

7. Gyu San Charcoal Bar – Wagyu beef set meals
Located in the middle of Orchard, Gyu San Charcoal Bar is selling their A5 Wagyu Japanese Hamburg Set from $23.80 each. A standard set menu comes with 2 thick grilled Wagyu patties, alongside miso soup and unlimited servings of rice.

Vegans and vegan food lovers, this one’s for you. The people behind the now closed Curious Palate recently opened Back to Eden – a plant-based brunch spot. From sourdough breads to specialty sauces, almost everything’s made from scratch.

Former home-based Dome Bakery has now made its home in Chinatown. The new 3-storey Coach Play Singapore Shophouse is a vibrant sight with its pink and red exterior, adorned with the brand’s logo. It’s hard to miss as you stroll along Tanjong Pagar.
Within the shophouse you’ll find Coach Cafe, where you’ll want to strike a pose for the ‘Gram at every corner. The vibrant decor featuring milk cartons, cereal boxes, and other nostalgic touches will transport you straight to a trendy American diner.

Gelato, waffles, and thick toast are what you’ll find at After Hours Gelato. And they really do mean after hours, as the cafe closes as late as 2am on Fridays and Saturdays, and 12am on other days of the week.
They serve unique gelato flavours such as Chinese Snow Pear, alcohol-infused Watermelon Soju, and Soybean & Youtiao. The latter is an icy cold twist on the popular Chinese breakfast pairing that sees a soy milk gelato topped with crispy youtiao bits for added crunch.

The name “pocha” is short for “pojangmacha”, the word used to describe roadside street vendors in Korea that sell street food like tteokbokki and oden soup. That’s what you’ll get at 88 Pocha, a new eatery in Holland Village.

Just like any respectable pocha in Korea, you’ll find similar street snacks here such as kimbap and fried dumplings. They’ve also done an upgraded take on ramyeon with flavours like corn cheese and truffle jjajang available.

With only 10 seats available, Sushi Moka is the epitome of a private dining experience. Not only is it exclusive, it’s quite literally a hidden gem in Orchard Road. Here’s a hint: it’s located inside OCBC Bank at Wisma Atria.
The Japanese omakase restaurant serves a selection of fresh sashimi, sushi, and grilled seafood based on what’s in season and available in the market. The menu is always changing but for now, you can look forward to staples such as the Chef’s Signature Chawanmushi that is braised in oyster puree to add a punch of umami to the egg custard.

Afterwords looks like it’s straight out of a rom-com scene where a boy meets a girl. Hidden amongst the shops in the main shopping street of Chinatown, this minimalistic-looking cafe has a menu with personality.

If you’re a sucker for food with umami, get a taste of it at this authentic Japanese chain. Unatoto is a popular food chain from Japan known for their affordable yet delicious unagi bowls. And they have slithered into Singapore this year.
On 25th January 2023, they opened their very first outlet in Singapore at Guoco Tower in Tanjong Pagar. If you work in the CBD, consider this for your next lunch. Dig into some rice bowls and bento boxes from as low as $8.

5. 8Bar Espresso – Oriental TCM-themed roastery

Head to 8Bar Espresso in Paya Lebar and you’ll immediately recognise the large red TCM medicine cabinet stretching across the wall behind the counter. Except that here, you’ll be getting coffee instead of herbs.
Take a seat at the translucent chairs and tables that resemble the colour of tea – or herbal medicine. You can get your over-the-counter coffee fix starting from $4, served in a unique conical cup. Or, try unique lattes that include flavours such as herbal blueberry and pistachio pineapple (from $8).

6. ASK Coffee Roastery – Cafe chain from Malaysia

Bringing you coffee from across the causeway is ASK Coffee Roastery. Before you ask, ASK actually stands for “Aku Suka Kopi” which means “I like coffee” in Malay. The cafe has a contemporary minimalistic look with white marbled tabletops and counters.
If you need to be brought back to life, get a cup of black coffee ($4) or latte ($6). There’s also flavoured coffee ($7-$9) such as salted caramel and hazelnut for a hint of sweet and nutty flavours.
Opposite the main counter is their pastry section. For $3.50, you can get a butter croissant or chocolate danish. And if you join their loyalty program, you can get a free drink once you’ve accumulated a spending of $60.

8. Cinnabon – Popular cinnamon rolls from the U.S.

Cinnabon will finally be rolling into Singapore this month. Appease your sweet tooth with cinnamon rolls from the U.S. Its first ever outlet is set to open at Raffles City and construction is already under way.

9. Fujiwara Tofu Concept Shop – Initial D anime-themed cafe

Initial D fans, get into gear because Fujiwara Tofu Concept Shop will be opening here in Singapore in late February. This cafe based on the manga and anime series, Initial D, is already a hotspot with fans getting photos of their cars with the cafe’s exterior.
Once it opens, it would make a great hangout spot to catch up with your car-kis. So if you’re driving down Sims Avenue and get deja vu seeing an oh-so familiar building, your eyes don’t deceive you – it’s an actual working replica of the Fujiwara Tofu shop.

3. Sugaroses Cafe – DIY your own flower bouquets over lunch

A short 2-minute walk from Jalan Besar MRT is Sugaroses Cafe, an Instagram-worthy spot with a soft floral aesthetic. Making it super obvious that it’s a flower-themed cafe, there are pink and purple flowers that look like they’re blooming from the ceiling.

Not only is this the time of year when you’ll be playing endless rounds of the mahjong with friends and relatives, you can also carry over your love for mahjong to your desserts at Wonders. It’s located at Ang Mo Kio, so Northies are in for a treat.
The latte art is unique to the cafe, with traditional Chinese characters such as 發 (fa) which you’d recognise from mahjong tiles.

This cafe’s ice cream flavours are tastefully labelled according to Mahjong lingo. Cookies and cream is named 半色 (ban se), meaning half colour, which coincides with the black and white appearance of the flavour. Meanwhile, strawberry cheesecake is named 红中 (hong zhong) which refers to the iconic red Mahjong tile.
