In true Singaporean fashion, our eyes twinkle whenever we see the word “free”. Better yet – free stuff with no long queues. This may sound too good to be true, but it really isn’t.
We know how rare cheap gym packages are. So, with the added incentive of improving your health, you’ll want to chope your spot at these free workouts in Singapore. From yoga and HIIT to a fun cardio sesh, all you have to do is pick a class, show up, and slay.

1. Parkrun – Train for 5km runs with a diverse group of people

Runners who prefer training in a group, listen up. Parkrun is a free weekly community event where you can go on a 5km run with a bunch of runners from all walks of life. If inertia is weighing you down, join this group of people simulating a competitive race for motivation; all without the pressure of having to finish by a certain time.
There are even volunteers who act as spectators to cheer you on so you get all the feels of running for a race. The event happens every Saturday morning at East Coast Park, West Coast Park, and Bishan Park. You won’t get a medal but if you are the top male and female runner of the week, your name will be announced on the Parkrun website.

2. Yoga Nikam – Basic & intermediate yoga courses

Yogi wannabes who have been looking to get certified to start teaching can check out Yoga Nikam. Unlike most yoga studios, the organisation offers basic and intermediate yoga courses at various spots across the island for free. Just head to their website to check out the schedule for when the next 12-session cycle starts and then show up on the first day to register yourself.
All sessions are 2 hours long and happen every week at certain CCs, malls, parks, and temples. If you’ve already got a basic certification but have been out of touch for a while, there’s also a refresher course. The only catch is that there is no prior online registration; so you just have to be physically present early and try your luck at getting a spot in the class.

3. Decathlon – Sports activities all over the island

This beloved sports store isn’t just great for finding cheaper Decathlon alternatives to popular brands, it’s also a space to join free sports activities at its various outlets in Singapore. If you’ve been wanting to try a new sport, Decathlon’s free classes are a great opportunity to have a taste before investing in the relevant sports equipment.
Besides enjoyable team activities such as football and futsal, there are also individual programmes such as HIIT, bootcamp, and circuit training. The kids won’t be left out either with classes for them to learn new skills such as inline skating, gymnastics, and floorball. If you just need some company to motivate you to get off your couch and exercise, then join the Decathlon Running Club.

4. Singapore Botanic Gardens Bootcampers – HIIT with a view

A group of friends gathered one day and decided they wanted to exercise together in an informal setting – no pressure of keeping up with an instructor and no gym fees. Thus, SBG Bootcampers was born. This meetup group now has over 5,000 members and is free for anyone to join.
Not only do you get to work out in the beautiful Singapore Botanic Gardens, but you can also make a bunch of new friends. From skipping ropes to burpees, these HIIT sessions are not for the faint-hearted. So, join in if you have some experience or want to give yourself the extra push.
Besides the signature bootcamp, the group also organises Saturday morning runs at different parks, taking various scenic routes at locations such as Siglap and Pierce Reservoir.

5. Move It! By HPB – >60 types of workouts islandwide

Singapore’s Health Promotion Board (HPB) by far offers the most variety and number of free workout classes happening all over the island. It’s as simple as scrolling through the Healthy 365 app (App Store | Playstore) for an activity of your interest and making a booking with one click. You can even filter the options by location so you don’t have to travel too far.
With more than 200 free classes a day, there’s bound to be an option near you. Activities range from heart-pumping Bolly Beats – where you get to bust out moves on popular Bollywood numbers – to energetic Kickboxing. Activity zones include locations near the CBD, malls for indoor workouts, and public parks for outdoor workouts.
In fact, there’s a whole range of community events for residents to come together. In estates where senior citizens are aplenty, workouts such as Line Dance, Low Impact Aerobics, Chair Zumba, and Resistance Band Exercises are offered.

6. Yoga Seeds – Family yoga sessions

This one’s for the entire fam. Bring along the grandparents and the kids for a free outdoor yoga session with Yoga Seeds. It happens every second Sunday of the month at Bishan-AMK Park, where tons of families gather together to stretch it out in an open green space.
These yoga sessions are beginner-friendly so little ones and seniors are all welcome to join in the fun. Since Sunday is usually family day, make an activity out of it so everyone can participate and spend quality time together.

7. Singapore Sports Hub – Cardio classes such as K-Kardio

There’s nothing better than enthusiastic instructors acting as your personal cheerleaders when you need to be hyped up for a workout. A lot of us dread doing cardio but if it comes in the form of a dance class, it might just be worth the effort. Singapore Sports Hub offers free classes every single day including Dance Storm, Zumba, and K-Kardio on selected days of the week.
On other days, you’ll find yoga, boxing, and martial arts as part of the free workouts at the stadium. To join a class, make a booking through the ELXR app (App Store | Playstore). The venue also has various facilities free for use by anybody such as a running track, exercise stations, and a skate park.

8. ActiveSG – Low-intensity workouts suitable for elderly
ActiveSG offers free activities for seniors that improve both physical and mental health.

Working on all sorts of muscle groups, ActiveSG gyms offer free workouts in various categories – flexibility, muscle endurance, cardiovascular, aerobics and balance. A lot of these classes are specially designed for the elderly who need a low-intensity workout to stay fit.
One of the classes is a Chair Workout which allows one to strengthen muscles and improve blood circulation without having to put strain on the joints. Another similar class for those suffering from aches and pains is Stretch & Rejuvenate. This is where the seniors will work on their mobility by stretching out stiff muscles and aim to become more flexible.
