35 Spas In Singapore For Stressed Office Workers Of Every Budget To Get Massages At

Massage spas in Singapore

We all deserve to relax and unwind once in a while, whether it’s via a short holiday or a staycation. But if you only have a few hours to spare, a visit to the spa can be an amazing alternative. Here are 35 best spas in Singapore that cater to every budget.

What’s the difference between a massage and a spa?

Massages are purely reserved for treating pained and tensed muscles while spas are solely for relaxation and pampering, with massages being part of the services they offer. At massage salons, they usually offer various types of massage services such as Swedish, aromatherapy, Thai, Shiatsu, and foot reflexology. These massages have their own unique benefits:

  • Swedish: Basic relaxing massage with long strokes and muscle kneading.
  • Thai: More pressure combined with stretches to improve flexibility.
  • Aromatherapy: Deploys basic massage techniques but adds on essential oils to rejuvenate or relax the body.
  • Hand shiatsu and foot reflexology: Targets pressure points to unblock qi and bring balance to the body.

Though spas also offer these massage services as well, these treatments can be packaged with other beauty treatments or services such as facials, onsen baths, saunas, body scrub, manicures or pedicures, and body wraps. Hence, overall, spas tend to provide a more holistic approach for a luxurious experience.

With a name like Sabaai Sabaai Thai Massage & Spa, you know you’ll be sabaai sabaai (feeling good) after your time here. Traditional Thai massages (from $88/hour) are their specialty – an oil-free technique that focuses on stretching out tense muscles and loosening stiff joints. Don’t be alarmed when you hear cracking noises – that’s supposed to happen.

This spa chain has 2 outlets conveniently located at Wisma Atria and Boat Quay. Go for the one at Orchard Road, as they have a private hinoki-wood onsen available for customers. It’s $100 for a 30-minute soak ($130 for couples) in mineral-rich water that is said to improve blood and oxygen circulation.

Besides massages and spas, they also offer facial and body care services so you can book a whole self-care day at just one location. Their Basic Organic Facial, priced at $88, suits all skin types, including sensitive skin, and deeply rejuvenates the skin for a more radiant look. For a pampering experience, ladies can also indulge in their Vitamin C Brightening Body Scrub treatment for $60 to give their body the TLC it deserves.

6. Amani Spa

Uses organic flaxseed oil

Oil massages are practically a given at any spa, but not many will have amani oil on the menu. The organic flaxseed oil is what is used in the signature massage (from $141.70/hour) at Amani Spa. The 100% natural oil is not only safe to use on the skin but has benefits that include soothing skin inflamed by eczema.

Another signature of Amani Spa is its Ganban-yoku ($98.10 for 2 pax), a hot stone room to rest in after your massage. The warmth of the stones helps to increase blood circulation around sore muscles for quicker recovery.

If you want to try out both treatments, go for the couples spa (from $327/pax), which includes a 90-minute massage, 30 minutes in the Ganban-yoku room, and 30 minutes in a private jacuzzi, and another 30 minutes of any additional treatment of your choice.

What to prepare before going for a massage or a spa?

Before you go for your spa session, here are a few things you should keep in mind:

Leave your jewellery at home: While we understand that accessorising plays a major factor in elevating your mood and outfit, you will be asked to remove them prior to your session. So you might as well save yourself the trouble and avoid wearing jewellery or at most keep it minimal on that day.

Have a light meal and stay hydrated: Be sure to eat lightly because the last thing you want is feeling bloated and on the verge of seeing your lunch splattered all over the floor. And, of course, drink plenty of water so that your muscles become softer and more pliable for your masseuse to work on.

Don’t shave before your session: This mostly applies to body exfoliations and facials, as shaving can make your skin more sensitive and susceptible to irritation.

Cover open wounds: If you have any cuts or open wounds, make sure to keep them covered to prevent any infections.

Can I go to a massage or spa when I’m on my period?

It’s perfectly safe to get a massage during your menstrual cycle so long as you maintain proper hygiene and wear a tampon or pad. Don’t forget to communicate this to your therapist so they can adjust the pressure accordingly.
