What should you not do in karaoke?
Generally, there are no hard and fast rules in karaoke, but you should keep a few etiquette tips in mind.
- Don’t hog the mic, or at least keep it to a maximum of 2 songs if you’re singing back-to-back. After all, everyone wants to have their fair share of singing, so be courteous and ensure that nobody gets left out (unless they request to be).
- On a similar note, you also shouldn’t pressure anyone to sing if they really don’t want to. Sometimes, friends just want to tag along for fun but are too shy to sing, and that’s perfectly okay. Respect their nos and keep the good vibes.
- Not everyone is a perfect-pitch singer, so don’t boo or belittle anyone for how they sound. Be supportive and hype your friends up, especially when they’re feeling insecure.
- Respect the expensive equipment and don’t do any fancy mic drops.
How to not be shy in karaoke?
As fun as karaoke can be, we understand that even the mere thought of singing in front of an audience can be daunting for some people. One tip to calm your nerves would be to focus your attention on the lyrics.
That way, you can tune out the eyes of the people around you. You can also try singing alongside a partner or group to help you feel more comfortable and confident. Otherwise, you can always pick a song in advance and practice singing at home before the karaoke date draws near.
Is karaoke good for mental health?
Singing has therapeutic qualities, and karaoke serves as an excellent outlet for letting out bottled-up emotions. Plus, just as with exercising, singing releases endorphins that help lower stress levels and improve your mood.
