From luxe spa-style bathhouses in Singapore to no-frills recovery studios and even a natural hot spring, here’s a guide to where you can take the plunge.

Why are ice baths so popular right now?

10. Capybara Bathing

Onsen-inspired soaks from Sydney

Capybara Bathing

Hailing from Sydney, Capybara Bathing at Tras Street is the Australian brand’s first international outpost, having set up just in March 2026. Inspired by the onsen-loving capybara, it leans into slow, communal soaking rather than the quick-dip approach most other spots on this list go for.

A 90-minute session cycles you through a full hot-cold circuit: a Turkish hammam-inspired steam room (45-50°C), a cedar-lined hot stone sauna cranked up to 90-95°C, a cold plunge (6-10°C), and a mineral thermal bath (38-40°C) to warm back up. It’s phone-free past the changing rooms too, so consider this your excuse for a proper digital detox, solo, or with a friend to rotate hot-cold rounds with.

Admission:

  • $55 for a single 90-minute session
  • From $50/session for multi-passes
  • From $75/week for membership

Plunge Club is less quiet wellness retreat and more full-blown social bathhouse. Think guided breathwork sessions, a recovery lounge with wellness drinks, and a crowd that’s genuinely there to hang out. The centrepiece is a 40-person Finnish sauna, big enough to bring the whole squad along.

For the cold side of things, there are twin plunge pools set at 4°C and 8°C, so you can ease in at the gentler end before working your way to the icier one. This is the spot if you’re after contrast therapy as a group hangout rather than a solo reset.

Admission:

  • From $189/month for off-peak membership
  • $358/month for full access
  • $2,268/year for full access

Beyond the plunges, there’s a hot magnesium bath, a Finnish sauna, and a steam room to round out the contrast therapy circuit. Refuel after at the in-house smoothie bar, which serves up protein smoothies, fresh coffee, and light bites. No need to bring your own towel or swimwear either; they’ve got you covered with bathers and towels.

13. Sembawang Hot Spring Park

Free admission to the outdoor natural hot springs

Sembawang Hot Spring Park

This is Singapore’s most accessible entry point into contrast bathing, and yes, it’s completely free. Located at Gambas Avenue, Sembawang Hot Spring Park features natural hot spring water where you can soak your feet, followed by cooling off in the open air. While there’s no formal ice bath, many visitors alternate between the hot spring and shaded rest areas to simulate contrast therapy.

It’s open daily from 7am to 7pm, and best visited early morning to avoid crowds. Come here if you’re curious about thermal therapy but not ready to commit to paid sessions just yet.

Are ice baths safe for beginners?

Yes, as long as sessions are guided and you follow recommended time limits. Start short and always listen to your body.

How cold are the ice baths usually?

Most range between 3°C and 10°C, depending on the facility and session type.

How long should I stay in an ice bath?

Beginners usually start with 30 seconds to 2 minutes. Many sessions cap immersion at 3 to 5 minutes.

What should I bring to an ice bath session?

You could bring your own swimwear, towel, and toiletries. However, most of the bathhouses provide clothing, towels, and amenities.

Who should avoid ice baths?

People with heart conditions, circulation issues, or who are pregnant should consult a doctor before trying cold plunges.

Cold plunge vs ice bath – what’s the difference?

Cold plunges and ice baths are both cold water immersion (CWI) therapies, but ice baths are generally colder and more intense, using added ice for extreme temperatures of around 3°C-6°C. Cold plunges use dedicated tubs with built-in chillers to maintain milder, more controlled temperatures of 5°C-15°C for longer durations, making plunges more convenient and accessible for consistent wellness. Ice baths are generally more for intense, brief recovery.

What is contrast therapy?

Contrast therapy is the practice of alternating between hot and cold exposure to trigger rapid changes in blood flow through the body, and it’s usually done by moving between a sauna or hot bath and an ice bath or cold plunge. The heat causes blood vessels to dilate, pulling blood toward the skin’s surface, while the cold that follows causes them to constrict sharply, pushing blood back toward the body’s core.

This repeated “pumping” action is thought to flush metabolic waste out of muscle tissue faster than heat or cold alone, which is why it’s popular among athletes for post-workout recovery. A typical session involves several rounds of a few minutes in heat followed by a shorter burst in cold, though exact timing and temperatures vary a lot by venue and individual tolerance.

Dip your toes into these bathhouses, whether for hot or ice baths

Whether you’re dipping a toe in for curiosity or going all-in for recovery gains, Singapore now has an ice bath option for every comfort level and budget. Just remember, the first step into cold water is always the hardest.
