Things to do in February 2024
One down, 11 more to go. This month, we’ve got Lunar New Year festivities and Valentine’s Day to look forward to. If you’re like me, and didn’t manage to snag tickets to Ed Sheeran’s + – = ÷ x tour, here are some things you can mark in your calendar.
Some of these things to do in February happen over multiple days, so divide your time wisely and you should get a month filled with added enjoyment. Minus the days spent working or studying.

1. Meet some adorable felines at SGCatHouse

An American university ran a study and it turns out, petting cats for just 10 minutes reduces stress in humans. If you require serotonin and dopamine this month to tide you through Valentine’s Day or nosy relatives, look no further than SGCatHouse in Paya Lebar for an injection of feel-good vibes.
With 9 different breeds of felines to interact with, you can spend an afternoon playing with Ragdolls, Shorthairs, and Munchkins. It’s purr-apy for anyone in need of a cat-sized pick-me-up.

2. Spend 2 days catching aerobatic displays at the Singapore Airshow

Back for its 9th instalment, the Singapore Airshow showcases the latest and greatest in aerospace and air defense. If you’re passionate about all things aviation, you won’t be disappointed as this year’s airshow comprises aerial performances, static displays, and a whole smorgasbord of fun-filled activities for all ages to enjoy.

3. Find comics, cosplay & collectibles at Asia Comics Expo
ACE’s key visuals this year were commissioned by an artist that also worked on FF: The Spirits Within.

With fan-favourite animes like Attack On Titan and Jujutsu Kaisen going on break or ending indefinitely, fans need time to recover or grieve for their fallen heroes. The second edition of Asia Comics Expo is shaping up to be the perfect space to do just that.
The expo is organised by the Singapore Cosplay Club, so expect to see many of the region’s best cosplayers descend upon Suntec City for this 2-day event. There will also be vendors selling crafts and merchandise featuring your favourite anime husbandos or waifus.

4. Visit a pop-up dragon-themed photo booth at The Projector
Your new family groupchat pfp will be the envy of your relatives.

With The Projector opening a second location and HaveFun Karaoke moving in, it might be the start of Orchard Cineleisure’s Renaissance era. Hot on the heels of the new addition comes SayChunkie! Studio with their whimsical 80s aesthetic.
In time for the Lunar New Year festivities, they’ve included a mystical Chinese dragon and lotus flowers to use as props at their pop-up photobooth. If you’re camera-shy, fret not, their staff will be on hand to ensure your shots channel maximum levels of huat.

5. Catch Coldplay & V-Day themed candlelight concerts

No stranger to the local gig scene, Candlelight has been holding intimate concerts by candlelight around these parts for quite some time. This month they’ve lined up concerts showcasing music from Coldplay, Studio Ghibli, K-Pop, and Disney movies.
There’s even one for Valentine’s Day, so if your special someone holds some of these tunes close to their heart chop-chop.

6. Spot giant floats with otters & art installations at Chingay Parade

Remember that sad TikTok with the Otter slowly descending down a conveyor belt? Turns out it belongs to one of the floats that will be participating in this year’s Chingay Parade.
You’ll also see pint-sized performers on bikes and rollerblades, with volunteers of all ages. This year’s theme is “Blossom” and promises to deliver a weekend of fun with a 230m-long interactive floor projection and art installations you can snap a selfie with for the ‘Gram.

7. Celebrate CNY at River Hongbao with a 18m-tall God of Fortune
Unless you’ve been avoiding malls and supermarkets, you should have realised that Chinese New Year is fast approaching. While Chinatown remains the epicenter for local festivities, the annual River Hongbao is also making a comeback with a few new additions.

Just like last year, the event at Gardens by the Bay sees the return of the 18m-tall God of Fortune with his signature megawatt smile. With 2024 being the year of the dragon, there will also be a 140m-long inflatable dragon stretching between 2 Supertrees.
This free entry event also promises carnival rides, live performances, and food stalls selling street food.

8. “Conjure” a Patronus in the Forbidden Forest

Witches, wizards, and muggles assemble, the moment you’ve been waiting for is fast approaching. Following successful stints in the UK and US Harry Potter: A Forbidden Forest Experience is finally here in Sentosa.
It’s filled with creatures from the beloved Potterverse, and you’ll have close encounters with Buckbeak the hippogriff, Aragog the acromantula, and all sorts of magical creatures and references to the books and films.
This outdoor trail takes over Sentosa’s Coastal Trail from 3rd February. Being a fully outdoor experience, it is advised you bring along your wands in case of dementors, and an umbrella in case it rains.

9. Set off sky lanterns at Sentosa at a one-day-only event

Picture a sea of lanterns illuminating the night sky and you might be thinking of that one scene from Disney’s Tangled or your last trip to Taiwan. Instead of looking up flights or logging into Disney+, the upcoming Sky Lantern Festival will let you recreate those memories IRL on 21st February.
The price of admission includes 2 eco-friendly paper lanterns and a marker to pen your wishes for the year ahead. While these lanterns will remain tethered to the ground, the sight of hundreds of these bright lights, suspended 60m in the air should make for quite a sight.

10. Visit ArtBox Avenue 2024, 50% bigger than last year’s edition
With nearly 300 vendors this year, a trip to ArtBox Avenue 2024 has to be on your agenda for February. Held in the air-conditioned hall 2 of Singapore Expo, this event that started in Bangkok, takes pages from Chatuchak and local pasar malams with some activities thrown in for good measure.
Aside from the 97 different food options on offer, visitors will also be able to treat themselves to some retail therapy with 181 stalls selling anything from imported Korean beauty products to apparel from Thai boutiques.

11. Pick up new reads for 2024 at a cosy Duxton book cafe

Nestled in the ever-popular Tanjong Pagar district along Duxton Road lies the Book Bar; part independent book store, part cafe. The cafe owners, being bookworms themselves, actually first met in a bookstore. And as fate would have it, they now run one together. Talk about a plot twist.
If you’ve picked February as the first chapter in your life to start reading more, Book Bar has a wide range of stories to get you started. With a focus on Singaporean literature and Asian authors, you’ll find a page-turner in no time here.
Aside from being a bookstore, it’s also a space for readers to congregate and spark conversations. Offering coffees and teas from $4, snacks like fries ($8), nuggets ($8), and hearty sandwiches you won’t have to wait till you get home to crack those pages open.

12. Bring the little ones to Pinkfong & Baby Shark’s Playhouse

From now till 31st March, Marina Square’s Let’s Play has been transformed into Pinkfong and Baby Shark’s Playhouse. If you have little ones that know the lyrics to Baby Shark better than you, they’ll have hours of fun at this space that’s packed with everything from bouncy castles to miniaturised golf and bowling.
With sections allocated for glow-in-the-dark crafts and areas where kids can play with kinetic sand, the only problem your little one might encounter would be which area to visit first. Tickets to the PlayHouse can be secured via Trip.com

13. Watch planes take off at SG’s newest container park
As if you needed more reasons to head East for the weekend, Cosford Container Park is a new spot to grab a bite that reminds us of Common Ground in Seoul with its shipping container aesthetic.
With foods stalls serving up zhichar to Korean street food you can fill your belly with anything from lok lok to grilled lobster. If you’re not entertained by the endless number of airliners taking off and landing at the nearby runway, there are also live band performances to enjoy.

14. Swing by Somerset to catch a movie at a free outdoor cinema

Sure, when it comes to movies, cinemas aren’t in short supply here. But how about an outdoor cinema in town that screens movies FOC? Nightflix Somerset is a recurring event that happens on the 1st Saturday of each month where movies are screened on their giant inflatable screen.
You need only secure your free seat via the Cinewav app and bring a pair of Bluetooth-enabled headphones. Moviegoers enjoy free popcorn and a scoop of ice cream but you’re welcome to bring your own snacks and seating
