First Look: Hello Kitty Cable Cars To Ride With The Cute Feline Between Mount Faber & Sentosa

Hello Kitty cable car cabins at Singapore Cable Car

By now, it’s clear that Singaporeans are obsessed with a certain feline, from McDonald’s plushies to collectable Hello Kitty toys. What if we told you that for now till the rest of the year,  you can even hop onboard a Hello Kitty cable car cabin and soar above the skies?

Singapore Cable Car just launched Hello Kitty Cable Cars to celebrate its joint 50th celebration. There’ll be 5 birthday-themed Hello Kitty cable car cabin designs along the Mount Faber Line from 1st June to 31st December 2024.

What to know before boarding the Hello Kitty Cable Car?

There are only 5 Hello Kitty cabins at any one time, so you may have to wait if you’re heading down during peak periods. However, as the service at Singapore Cable Car is pretty efficient, we didn’t have to wait long.

Similar to the usual cable cars, you can hop on and off the Hello Kitty Cable Cars at any point along the Singapore Cable Car system. This includes both the Mount Faber and Sentosa lines. Those who are transferring between both lines will have to do so at Sentosa station, and walk for 5 minutes to Imbiah Lookout, and vice versa.

Another thing to note is that the Singapore Cable Cars aren’t air-conditioned. We’d recommend bringing a mini fan because it can get hot and humid inside, especially if you’re going during the day.

Hello Kitty photo wall & standees

Upon arrival at Mount Faber Peak, we were greeted by a 2M-tall Hello Kitty Sculpture on Level 1. She was all dressed in gold and carrying balloons that say “50” to mark the Golden Jubilee, which we thought was super adorable. Snap a pic or two here.

If you’ve got restless kids, these standees will help entertain them while you wait in line to get on the Hello Kitty cable car cabins.

Before boarding the cable car, you’ll walk past a photo wall and 2 Hello Kitty cable car cabin standees. If you’ve experienced the Pokemon-themed cabins that popped up last year, it’s pretty similar. Besides that, there are also vintage cable car cabins from the first and third generations that are decorated as a photo backdrop.

Experiencing the Hello Kitty cable car cabins

Then, we took off to the skies, as the cable car started moving from Mount Faber Peak towards Sentosa. The cable cars are decked in stickers of Hello Kitty & Friends. Each cabin is kawaii, adorned with hearts and cakes and beloved characters like Hello Kitty, Dear Daniel, her sister Mimmy, and their parents.

If you’ve been on the Singapore Cable Car before, the views are nothing new. What’s cool, though, is the opportunity to get a photo in the Hello Kitty-decorated cabins. Who knows when this will be available again?

Those looking for a unique way to travel between Mount Faber and Sentosa without driving or taking the Sentosa Express, this would be a cool option. Albeit, not the most affordable one.

And while we aren’t massive Hello Kitty fans ourselves, we still found it pretty cute. It’s not TOO decked that would make guys uncomfortable. If you’re thinking when’s the best time to go, we’d say aim to go when there is daylight so you can actually see the Hello Kitty decor.

You also can’t go wrong with “golden hour”, typically around 6.30pm – that’s when you’ll have the best photo ops. Trust us, we took the Hello Kitty cable car back to Mount Faber at night and it was so dark that you can’t see much aside from the city lights.

Shop for adorable Sanrio merch

After experiencing the Hello Kitty Cable Cars, head on to the gift shop at Mount Faber Station to bring home some merch from Sanrio. Plus, it’s never too early to shop for Christmas gifts for that Hello Kitty fan in your life.

This stainless straw water bottle is perfect for those who love pastels.

We spotted a stainless straw water bottle ($64) and Hello Kitty plushies ($69). Toy collectors can also find vinyl figurines that will look at home with even the cutest Pop Mart collections.

Hop onboard the Hello Kitty Cable Car cabins

Whether you’re looking for new things to do with the kids this June holidays or a new paktor idea with your special person, the Hello Kitty Cable Car cabins are worth checking out. But if you were expecting something unique, we’d recommend you to lower your expectations.

For illustrative purposes only.

Tickets for the normal cable cars are available at counters and through MFLG’s website at $35/adult and $25/child, for those aged 4-12. Those aged 3 and below can enjoy complimentary rides. This covers a round-trip journey on both the Mount Faber Line and Sentosa Line. For the Hello Kitty Cable Car cabin experience, it’s just a $10 upgrade for unlimited rides, valid for a day.

The cable cars cabins are around from now till 31 December, so there’s no need to rush down. In fact, you might want to wait a few weeks before heading down so that it’s less crowded.
