Whether you are an art museum frequent or a fan of music festivals, the month of May has something in store for all kinds of people. Ditch the sluggish weekends of sinking into your couches and attend a fun event with your friends and family. Here are some ideas:
1. Sample alcoholic concoctions at SG Cocktail Festival

The SG Cocktail Festival is back for another year of boozy fun with their lineup of cocktail tastings and bar tours. If you want to add more alcohol favourites to your list, this is a good place to explore different gins, rums and liquors.
Pair your drinks with light bites from the food booths scattered around the festival village by vendors like COMO Cuisine and Neon Pigeon. You’ll also get to vibe to live bands and spins by DJs – because the nightlife isn’t complete without some tunes to jam to.

2. Dine in a garden-themed cafe

If you’ve already visited all the character cafes in Singapore and wish to switch up your brunches, hop by one of many garden-themed cafes instead. These are all in air-conditioned environments so you won’t have to worry about the heat. For one, Picnic is a food-court style eatery with more than 10 different kiosks with a diverse range of cuisine such as French, Mexican and Japanese.

3. Try new makeup at Chanel’s COCO Flash Club pop-up

Chanel is back with another pop-up event – COCO Flash Club – to launch their new lipstick series which has over 27 eye-catching shades. Just like the previous ones, this one is full of photo spots.

This time’s decor will see you travelling back to the 80s with disco balls, neon signs, and groovy music you can dance to. Be sure to strike a pose with the mic stands, drum kits and old school jukeboxes.

4. Watch movies at the beach with Peroni Sunset Cinema

Cinemas are one of the go-to options for a chill day out with friends but when you have a movie night on a beach, that’s a whole other story. Peroni Sunset Cinema is making a comeback this May with movies like Bohemian Rhapsody and Cold Pursuit.
Purchase Tanjong Beach Club’s Poke bowls and crispy fish tacos to munch on during your movie. Good food, a beautiful sunset and movie screenings on the beach – it’s Netflix and chill made better.

5. Jump around on an inflatable Tokidoki playground

The World of Tokidoki is a family-friendly event for both kids and adults as well. The themed setup at Changi Airport has an inflatable playground with ball pits, photo ops, as well as a mock bedroom filled with Tokidoki items.

Check out the Tokidoki exhibition as well, which has a photo booth where you can get a complimentary printed photo. There’s also a retail store for you to cop some Tokidoki souvenirs.

6. Groove to a Silent Disco at Marina Bay Sands Observation Deck

Some of us are hardcore EDM lovers and others prefer to bust out dance moves to pop remixes. At the Silent Disco, you’ll be given your own personal LED headphones so that you can shuffle between 3 different DJ mixes with just a click of a button. 8. Watch the Phantom of The Opera musical

Broadway’s famous Phantom of the Opera musical will be coming to MBS this may. The musical tells the story of a musical genius’ quest to win over a young Soprano singer’s heart. It’ll be a good place for a date with your significant other, especially with the romantic tunes likes Think of Me and Music of the Night.

9. Partake in yoga, a 5km run, and partying at AIA Glow Festival
Music festivals might just seem like lots of drinking, partying and the feeling of being hungover the next day. However, that won’t be the case at the AIA Glow Festival which has fitness activities, concerts, as well as healthy festival food, all lined up for you to enjoy.

10. Prepare your stomach for Geylang Ramadan Bazaar 2019
Geylang Ramadan Bazaar has over the years been known for their hipster street food including meatballs in buckets, flavoured churros and rainbow grilled cheese sandwiches. However, this year you can look forward to more traditional Malay food and Malay fusion dishes.
The layout of this year’s event is also designed to be more spacious so hopefully, you won’t have to squeeze through crazy crowds.

11. Play a detective VR game at the Singapore International Festival of the Arts
De Relaxarette – an installation where you’ll be lying on a moving hammock while listening to various sounds and stories through a pair of headphones

Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA) 2019 is bringing more interactive zones this year. For a thrill, try Frogman, which lets you uncover the mystery of a missing girl through a VR experience where you’ll get to “dive” underwater.
We Can Dance – see your dance recordings on the walls of the National Library building

Besides playing Nancy Drew, you can also visit the We Can Dance installation where you’ll be busting out your best dance moves in front of a video camera. Your recorded dances will then be projected on the building facade.

13. Stock up on local produce at Sprout 2019, Singapore’s biggest farmers market

15. Tickle your funny bone with Katya: Help Me I’m Dying

16. Explore the indoor gardens of the newly opened Jewel Changi
We’ve probably all seen Jewel Changi’s majestic Rain Vortex on our friends’ Insta stories since its recent opening. This attraction stands at 40m tall and is the largest indoor waterfall in the world. The luscious greenery surrounding it just makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a whole new place – not something you’d expect to see in an airport at all.
Other green spaces include the Forest Valley that houses a bamboo grove giving Japan vibes. Pop by the Topiary Walk as well which has many cute animal sculptures made entirely from plants.

17. Watch free circus acts at Esplanade Flipside Festival

The Esplanade Flipside Festival will is an art event that lets you watch different types of circus performances, some even for free. The Bonfire Circus, a Singaporean circus group, is one of the featured acts. Their performance includes juggling and other aerial dance acts, and you might even get a chance to learn some easy tricks from them.

18. Break out of a themed escape room

If the Annabelle movie was no kick for you then maybe Xcape SG’s Annabelle themed escape room will give you the thrill you desire. Take on the role of a demonologist as you help to end the curse on Annabelle and escape the room.

19. Snap photos in ALDO’s all-pink Zest For Life truck

ALDO’s Zest for Life experiential room – housed in a truck – is just the thing to bring your insta feed from 50 to 100. As you step into the room full of pink furnishing, you’ll see the new line of shoes creatively showcased – one such display is an open-toed high heel fixed on top of a traditional telephone as a handle.

20. Explore hidden gems of Singapore like a rainbow tree and star observatory
We’re always complaining that Singapore is so small and there’s nothing to do here, but you’ll be surprised to know that there are many secret places in our little red dot waiting to be discovered – one of which is the Rainbow Eucalyptus tree at Katong. When the layers of the tree’s bark sheds, the inner bright green colour subsequently changes to different shades of maroon, purple and blue.
And you don’t need to purchase fancy telescopes just to stargaze in Singapore. The Woodlands Galaxy Community Club has a stargazing observatory that will help you get up close and personal with the constellations, all for just $1.
