Now that the June holidays are over, you may feel like you’ve already done everything there is to do in the book. However, just because the holidays have ended, it doesn’t mean that the festivities are coming to a close – in fact, there are a ton of new things to explore with your family and friends this July.

1. Admire paper-based artworks at SAM

If you spent your childhood attempting to origami the perfect paper stars or paper cranes, you’ll be enthralled by the display of paper artworks at the Superfluous Things: Paper exhibition at Singapore Art Museum (SAM).

The exhibition features 5 artworks done by 9 different artists, covering themes like sustainability. Examples of exhibits include the Land of Fairy Tales, a colourful display representing an imaginary world map, and Just a Little at a Time, featuring 80 miniature artworks smaller than our hands.

While you’re at SAM, be sure to check out the Lonely Vectors exhibit which houses 8 different installations about our global economy.

Many of the exhibitions are interactive, with some even utilising VR technology, so you’re sure to be entertained throughout.

2. Walk through a zen MUJI exhibit at Nassim Road

From 15th June to 27th July 2022, it’s time to celebrate our favourite minimalist Japanese chain, MUJI. In light of its 40th anniversary, there’ll be a free MUJI exhibition showcasing selected items from the new MUJI IS book which documents 460 of the brand’s items since its founding.

If you love clean, simple aesthetics – in true MUJI spirit – then this exhibition will make the perfect photo spot for you. Showcasing products in forest-like structures, the exhibition will be gone by the end of the month, so be sure to catch it before then.

3. Explore 70s-style offices & vintage games at this retro exhibition

If you love all things vintage, this exhibition is for you. Take a walk down memory lane at the Off / On exhibition, which runs from 10th June to 30th October 2022. It explores Singapore’s technological evolution from the 1970s to 2000s and is decked out with IG-worthy rooms for those who want to add a little retro charm to their Instagram feeds.

Visitors will walk through 4 zones that feature setups reminiscent of old offices, vintage phones, and retro games. There’s even an after-hours escape room, An Escape Through Time, that adults and kids alike will enjoy.

4. Feast on a bottomless brunch buffet at Hotel Indigo Garden

9. Learn about print in the digital age at this interactive exhibition

“Is print dead?” – you’ve probably heard a similar question of sorts, even if you don’t work in the industry. 

Until 31st July 2022, you can explore the ways print and digital media co-exist today, in the free State of Print exhibition that combines the traditional medium with new technologies like AR tech to form interactive exhibits. There’s even a station where you can send postcards to senior citizens in nursing homes – we’re living for how wholesome this idea is.

10. Indulge in mookata on a private yacht

This may be the coolest new 7-Eleven store in Singapore to date, with a bunch of unique facilities and an Instagrammable graffiti wall. One of its best features, however, is hands-down its Tiger Beer tap that dispenses the right amount of alcohol each time.

12. Admire orchids from Costa Rica at Gardens By The Bay

For only 2 weeks from 28th June to 11 July 2022, catch the Orchids of Costa Rica – Resilient Beauty display at Gardens By The Bay’s Cloud Forest. You’ll get to examine over 30 unique Costa Rican orchid species in this special collaboration with the country’s embassy and famous Lankester Botanical Garden.

Some highlights to look forward to include the colour-changing Acianthera decipiens flowers, as well as the Ornithocephalus inflexus flowers that resemble birds in flight. Also, put your eyesight to the test by trying to spot the Scaphyglottis micrantha, a unique flower that only measures 4mm.
