If you’ve been obsessed over shows like Tiny House Nation on Netflix, you’re certainly not the only one. For all those who’ve wondered what living in a super tiny home is like – BTO aside – try SG Hotel On Wheels for an offbeat staycation.
Singapore’s first roving container hotel just opened in Pasir Ris this month, with rooms you can book from now till end-March 2022:

With containers in colourful hues of blue, yellow and red, SG Hotel On Wheels can’t be missed when passing by Downtown East’s outdoor car park. At first glance, it’s easy to mistake it for the latest edition of Artbox, Timbre+ or another hipster food market – but no, it’s a hotel.
Unlike the skyhigh five-stars or spacious loft rooms that many of us may be familiar with, SG Hotel On Wheels gives a taste of tiny home living with petite container rooms sized 20ft (6M) or 40ft (12M) across.

- 40ft rooms – Four guests

While the space may be small, you can still expect semi-luxe rooms with a fully fitted interior that come in a variety of themes like Industrial Chic, Minimalist Classic and Modern Country for something timeless.
Alternatively, rooms with vibrant wallpapers are also available for those who prefer a pop of colour – options include the Resort Retreat, Safari Paradise and Pop Art rooms.

Depending on which room type you book, there’ll be office desks, dining tables and sofas furnishing the space.
While it hints at off-grid living, SG Hotel On Wheel’s rooms come with electricity and everything else you can expect out of a typical hotel. There’s a Google Home installed, alongside air conditioning units and smart TVs. The 40ft rooms even come with a fully-fledged kitchen complete with a full-sized refrigerator, induction cooker, microwave and large sink.
No worries, it ain’t a camping sitch either – every room comes with its own toilet so you can go number two without sharing the loo. Not to mention, these toilets also pass the vibe check with flying colours.
For those here to enjoy a self pampering weekend, know that every room also comes with a substantial welcome pack. Kick back for the weekend with Vitamin C tablets, 24K gold mask, sunscreen, Shnack snacks, and even E.A masks you can bring out as an added layer of protection when you leave your room.
Each room comes with UV face masks you can use, alongside air purifiers to clear any nasties in the air.
Other than relaxing in the room, guests can also enjoy the semi-private outdoor “garden” area with artificial grass and colourful deck chairs at the entrance of every room. For a sizzling dinner with the fam, request for one of their electric BBQ pits – ingredients can be purchased from NTUC Fairprice that’s just a stone’s throw away.
Otherwise, you can enjoy meals delivered straight to your rooms from selected Downtown East restaurants with no delivery fees included.

For non-Easties, Downtown East often ignites secondary school chalet #mmrs. Once you’ve settled in, relive those classic days with a bike ride around Pasir Ris Park. The area also has PCNs that’ll take you up to Punggol or down to Changi if you’re up for it.
Bike rides are available F.O.C when you stay at the hotel, with a $20 deposit.
But no worries if cardio while on staycation isn’t your idea of fun, as there’s also plenty in store in this not-so-little container park. Housed within the hotel is also a workshop and retail zone, where you can shop handmade jewellery and sign up for art classes by Fara Design.
Anyone from the public is welcomed here but guests get to enjoy workshops at half-price. Let your inner Da Vinci out to play as there are plenty of creative projects you can dip your toes into, from Alcohol Ink Painting ($44.50, U.P. $89/person) to Resin Ocean Art (from $44.50, U.P. $89/person).
Kids will also love the upcoming carnival that will be set up right next to the container rooms. While the opening date for that has yet to be announced, you can already spot hints of bouncy castles, booth games and a mini-carnival swing.
And as the final cherry on top, complimentary Wild Wild Wet tickets will also be provided based on room occupancy.
Enjoy tiny home living in a unique container hotel
Downtown East has seen plenty of cool activities from a drive-in cinema to the first edition of Eatbox. This time, swing by SG Hotel On Wheels for a staycation unlike any other. Rooms are priced from $188 for a 20ft room and $248 for a 40ft room during weekdays.
While it has not been announced how long the roving hotel will be staying at this location, SG Hotel On Wheels is currently accepting online bookings from tomorrow until end-March 2022. There are only 10 rooms available in total and we hear tickets are already selling out like hotcakes, so be sure to book soon, especially if you’re planning for a stay during the upcoming holiday season!
