Singaporeans have a strange affinity for the minute; apart from the Sonny Angel and POP MART craze, we’ve even got a pint-sized bus 825 making its rounds in Ang Mo Kio. If you’re also a fan of all things adorably tiny, then the free small MUJI exhibition – Enjoying Everyday Items is just the event for you.

There are 16 miniature works in total to marvel at, and they are all made from familiar household objects, complete with little human figurines to give the models a sense of liveliness. You’ve got scenes of farmers hard at work on the calculator rice paddies, ice skaters circling a clothes peg monument, and an ice cream stand represented by a colourful makeup palette.

These models are crafted by the nimble hands of miniature photographer and artist Tatsuya Tanaka, who specialises in mitate. It’s a form of art which refers to viewing things from a different perspective. In this case, MUJI’s everyday products are given a new lease of life, becoming a playground for the artist’s thoughts.

Visit the small MUJI Exhibition at Plaza Singapura

If you’re in the city and need a breather from all the shopping, be sure to make a stop at the small MUJI Exhibition. Although it’s not quite a full-fledged art exhibit like the ones you’d find at the ArtScience Museum, it’s the small things that matter, right?

Speaking of which, this list of best museums in Singapore should come in handy when you’re planning for chill date nights. For those who’d like to get artsy while filling their bellies, Appetite is a 3-in-1 bar, vinyl lounge, and art gallery, while The Werx art cafe pairs coffee with handicrafts like leather-making.
