How do I get to Mount Austin from Singapore?
If you’re driving to JB from Woodlands checkpoint, it’s about a 25-minute drive to reach Mount Austin. The journey takes longer if you’re planning to drive over from Tuas, which will take around 45 minutes instead. For those intending to take a Grab, the fare cost from JB Sentral should go for around RM65 (~S$19.60).

There are plenty of things to do in Mount Austin, with tons of activities like tufting and pottery, and even a kid-friendly water and adventure park. To save you the trouble, we’ve compiled a list of places to include in your itinerary.
1. Kacha Kacha @ Eco Palladium

Photo strips are so last year, switch them out for DIY photo keychains at Kacha Kacha instead. This self-photoshoot studio offers prices from as low as RM20 (~S$6.03) for 2 photostrips and 4 minutes photo time.
To get your photos fitted into a customisable keychain, just pay the additional RM25/pax (~S$7.54) fee which grants you access to a slew of charms and letter beads. You can even provide your own photo for the staff to print if you’re not a fan of owning a photo card of yourself.
Walk-ins are allowed but it’s recommended to book a slot on Kacha Kacha’s official website to avoid long waiting times.

2. Tufting Nuts

Whether you’re someone who has always wanted to try tufting or has already been to all the tufting studios in Singapore, Tufting Nuts at Mount Austin is one of the best activities to do for both novices and pros.
Enjoy the craft at an affordable rate here at just RM269/pax (~S$81.12) and take home a 40x40cm rug after 3 hours of tufting time. Couples looking for something to do on a date can join the 4-hour tufting workshop, which currently has an ongoing promotion of RM399/pax (~S$120.32) with a minimum of 2 pax.

Don’t worry if it’s your first time tufting, the friendly staff there will help guide you through. All you require is an image you want to recreate and plenty of arm strength.
Your rugs will require some touch-ups after the session, so do note that there’s a waiting period of 1 month before the finished product can be collected. You can get them shipped to Singapore at a price, or plan another JB day trip back.

3. Austin Heights Water & Adventure Park
Family things to do in Mount Austin
One of the best things to do in Mount Austin to beat the heat is to head to Austin Heights Water & Adventure Park. Take on the water slides and challenge your friends to a downward race at the Supersurf, which are 6 high-speed racing lanes. Thrill-seekers should check out the G-force Alley to experience a gravity-defying moment as you whoosh down the snake-like curves.
Those with little ones can take them to Splash World, where they’ll go bonkers over the water playground. Nap time afterwards will be a breeze for mommies.
There’s also an obstacle course for those looking for an adventure. In fact, Austin Heights Water & Adventure Park has the longest indoor suspension rope course in Malaysia, featuring 7 course routes with 51 obstacles to try out, regardless if you’re a first-timer or a pro daredevil.
Tickets start from RM70/pax (~S$21.11) and kids under 3 years old enter for a price of RM12/pax (~S$3.62).

4. Loud Speaker Family Karaoke

With 13 outlets spanning across Malaysia, Loud Speaker Family Karaoke is the place to go if you’re itching to belt out some high notes. They have a variety of songs in Chinese, English, and Malay – so just choose your favourite songs and live out your singer dreams.
This karaoke place in Mount Austin has clean and spacious rooms that are perfect for hosting a get-together with your friends and family. Banghistory Escape Amusement is the place to check out for those who want more adventurous things to do in Mount Austin. It has 3 themed escape rooms that will leave even the biggest horror fanatics with shivers down their spines.
Gung ho warriors who have no fear can check out Cecil Hotel, inspired by the infamous real unsolved murder case. Another option is Resentment Teacher-Student, where you get to uncover chilling secrets of a haunted school. If that isn’t enough to give you nightmares, there’s also a live scare actor for max HHN vibes.

If you’re a scaredy-cat, there’s something for you too. At 3/5 on the horror scale is the Hong Kong Broadcasting Station, where participants can investigate the sudden disappearance of a radio DJ called Nicky.

For folks who still haven’t let go of their schooling days, you get to live out your high school memories at High School Kopitiam. This eatery takes notes from Taiwanese high schools and features classroom-esque seating, complete with a huge chalkboard.
Check out their popular toast options like the High School Pork Chop Sandwich (RM15.90, ~S$4.90), which is packed with pork chop, veggies, and a fried egg. For an additional RM1 (~S$1, ~S$0.30), your sandwich will be served using Charcoal Toast, just the right amount of edge for the perfect Instagram shot.

Other than just being a cool spot to dine, they offer a wide selection of hotpot ingredients and even BBQ dishes that you can order in sets. For 2 people, their Set A (RM88, ~S$26.54) consisting of various meat, tofu, and vegetables will be enough to fill you up.

10. Eden by Wizards

Eden by Wizards is a cafe in Mount Austin that blew up in popularity for their interior design and we totally see why. In contrast to the dull industrial area it’s located in, the space is warmly decorated with lush greenery and solid wood furnishing which reminds us of Bali. Aesthetics aside, they are more popular for their fusion dishes, although slightly pricier compared to nearby cafes. Try the Siamese Prawn Spaghettini (RM35, ~S$10.56) for a Thai surprise or the Mentaiko Chicken Rice Bowl (RM30, S$9.05) for a spicy kick.

The cafe serves affordable, good-quality food starting from RM11.50 (~S$3.47). Try their highly recommended Quesadilla and Cashew Nut Pesto Chicken Pasta both at RM29.90 (~S$9.02). If you’re travelling with someone who doesn’t eat meat, there are also plant-based options such as the Truffle Carbonara (RM31.90, ~S$9.62).

Hot pots may be typical at family gatherings, but Two Pesos breaks all stereotypes. Their 1-2pax hotpots are perfect for anyone looking for a quick meal. The individual pots also ensure that you don’t have to worry about your friends choosing something you don’t like.
There’s a wide variety of soup bases to choose from, like Tom Yam and Italian Tomato. The hotpot is priced from RM28.50 (~S$8.60) and you can choose your protein from pork, beef, fish, or lamb. They also offer vegetarian-friendly options, and you can add additional ingredients if you’re feeling extra hungry.
Lunch menus are also available at a cheaper price of RM13.50 (~S$4.07) on weekdays from 12pm-3pm.

13. MeowMe Cat House

Cat lovers will adore the felines over at MeowMe Cat House. The cafe in Mount Austin requires no entrance fee and imposes no time limit, just order something off the menu and you get to chill with the cats for as long as you wish.

Try their Lemon Cheese Cake (RM15, ~S$4.52), which looks just like a block of cheese, paired with the Sparkling Yuzu Lemon Soda (RM14, ~S$4.22) for a refreshing afternoon pick-me-up.
The cats are free to roam around and are well taken care of by the friendly staff. The space is kept clean and odour-free – so rest assured there won’t be added ingredients of cat fur in your desserts.
Bonus: Cat owners are welcome to bring their fur babies with them to the cafe, just make sure to look after them throughout.

14. Lala Pro Max Austin

The internet-famous Dai Tao Lala Pot attracts long queues of both Malaysians and Singaporeans, but there’s another lala hotpot place just 2 shops away. Lala Pro Max Austin is an underrated restaurant with hotpot from RM37.90 (~S$11.43).
Enjoy the seafood broth alongside the star of the show; the plump, juicy clams. There’s also an option to top up RM3.80 (~S$1.15) for an additional kick with their Tom Yum Soup. After all, nothing beats a comforting bowl of soup after a long day of shopping.

Find your perfect cuddle buddy over at Chill N’ Chow cafe, one of the cutest dog cafes in JB. The entrance fees are RM27 (~S$8.14) from Tuesday to Thursday and RM30 (~S$9.05) from Friday to Sunday for an hour of playtime with the pups. It also comes with a complimentary scoop of coconut ice cream.
They also serve actual food and drinks at Bon Appetit restaurant next door if you’re looking for a quick meal on the spot. You can try their Teriyaki Chicken Bowl (RM18.90, ~S$5,70) or Pan Roasted Salmon Baked with Mentai Mayo (RM25.90, ~S$7.81) for a seafood surprise.

Is it really a trip to JB if you didn’t do some shopping? Threads Boutique in Mount Austin is a trendy store where you can shop for a new wardrobe. The store is clean and spacious and includes a comfy sofa for boyfriends to chillax at.
You’ll be able to find trendy pieces for as low as RM40.08 (~S$12.09). Their clothes lean more towards soft, elegant Korean styles and are of good quality. There’s a wide variety of styles and colours to choose from. Fitting rooms are also available for you to try on the pieces in-store.
