As far as sun-kissed getaways are concerned, the Indonesian islands often attract throngs of tourists looking for a healthy dose of vitamin D. Us Singaporeans are all too familiar with booking flights and hopping on ferries to destinations like Bali and Bintan, but thanks to Jetstar, we’ve now got another one to pack our swimsuits and sunscreen for.
Enter Labuan Bajo, a quiet fishing town located in East Indonesia. If you’ve not heard, the low-cost carrier now flies directly from Singapore to the town’s Komodo International Airport, making it extremely accessible for those long weekend getaways. As such, here are a couple of resorts in Labuan Bajo to serve as your home away from home while you’re taking in the sights of this tropical paradise.

Where is Labuan Bajo?

Labuan Bajo is located on the tip of Flores, a large island in East Indonesia. The town itself is pretty small, measuring just 11.65sqkm, which means you can travel from one end to the other in about 15 minutes on foot. But, you’ll likely spend most of your time exploring the massive Komodo National Park and the various islands peppered along the Flores Sea.
Though, a majority of the accommodation options in the area lie within Labuan Bajo itself, so unless you’ve opted for a liveaboard on a boat, you’ll have to return to the town to retire for the day. Many resorts in Labuan Bajo provide tour packages which include trips to the neighbouring islands and villages in the region, which is mighty convenient should you be looking for an all-inclusive stay.
How to get to Labuan Bajo?

With the recent introduction of Jetstar’s direct flights to Labuan Bajo, getting there cannot get any more straightforward. Their return flights to Labuan Bajo start from $179, and after spending 3 hours and 10 minutes in the air, you’ll touch down at Komodo International Airport.
If your resort or hotel has airport transfer services, do contact them to arrange for transportation straight from the airport to your accommodation. Depending on your resort or hotel, you might have to take an additional boat ride to reach their premises. You can also choose to spend some time in the city centre before checking in; it’s only a 10-minute drive from the airport.

Another spot to put on your list of places that look like Santorini near Singapore is Loccal Collection Hotel Komodo. Built into the hills of Labuan Bajo, this establishment is swathed in shades of turquoise and white that seemingly transports visitors to the Grecian island. The rates here aren’t too bad as well; a stay in their Standard Room starts from Rp 1,350,000.

Book their exquisite Cave Room (Rp 1,485,000/night) for an alternative form of sleeping quarters when you hit the sack, as its walls mimic the interior of a cave. For more subterranean vibes, head to the Cave Spa, where expert masseuses work their magic to knead out any stress knots in your body.

But if you’re truly feeling fancy, opt for their Hemparare Suite (Rp 3,780,000). It sports a private mini pool on its balcony overlooking the rest of the resort. All other guests can take a dip in the common swimming pool which provides views of the ships cruising on the azure blue waters.

2. Parlezo Hotel

For those who prefer to skip out on the fancy rooms and amenities in favour of more affordable stays, you’ll get the most bang for your buck at Parleza Hotel. With rooms starting from just Rp 588,000/night, even their most expensive room, the Komodo Suite (from Rp 1,008,450), won’t blow a hole in your wallet, as it comes out to roughly S$78/night.

It’s the hotel’s great location that makes it an excellent choice for travellers wanting a convenient place to retreat to once the day’s over. Parlezo Hotel is an 8-minute walk from the Komodo International Airport. Moreover, the famous Mirror Stone Cave is a 11-minute drive away, and the Flores Pier where most boats depart from to get to Komodo National Park is 7 minutes away by car.

As for amenities, there are 3 restaurants available to quell rumbling stomachs, and all guests are free to use the on-site fitness center, swimming pool, and kid’s club. Another undisturbed sanctuary that’s only accessible via boat from Labuan Bajo is Plataran Komodo Resort & Spa. Located along Waecicu Beach, which is said to be one of the best sites to catch the sun dip below the horizon, only a 10-minute boat ride from the mainland separates you from this paradise.

This 44sqm room is just the right size for couples on a romantic getaway, and comes with a cosy balcony to clink glasses at.

There is also no shortage of quaint living quarters in Labuan Bajo available on Airbnb, and one that’s worth checking out is Villa Molas Mongko. It’s a spacious villa perched on the side of a hill facing the sea, so rest assured that you’ll get your fair share of picture-perfect vistas during your stay here.

Do note that you’ll have to book stays of at least 2 nights, but when you do the math, it costs Rp 1,442,354/night, which is pretty reasonable in our books. You’ll realise you’ve landed a steal once you step into the homely 2-storey villa. It’s decked out with a fully functional kitchen for when you decide to do some cooking, and an outdoor swimming pool that’s perfect for your feed.
The hosts of the villa are known to be extremely responsive and helpful as well. Guests noted that they were pleasantly awoken by the aroma of the breakfast prepared by the villa’s live-in housekeeper, and day trip recommendations organised by them were mighty fun.
7. The Seraya Komodo

We’re all guilty of having our eyes glued to screens, be it at work or during hour-long doomscrolling sessions. As such, you can reduce that screentime by booking a stay at The Seraya Komodo.

The resort prides themselves on being a digital detox destination; they’re not even located on Labuan Bajo but instead on Seraya Kecil Island, which is 9km north of the town’s shores. Once you’re here, feel free to snap away at your picturesque surroundings but save the IG story updates for later as there’s no Wi-Fi on the resort. There’s much to do once you’ve settled in at The Seraya Komodo. When the sun’s getting unbearable, gear up and go snorkelling along the reefs near the resort, or take a kayak on expeditions to the nearby islands. The New Eden Gallery is a quirky alternative to your run-of-the-mill, posh hotel rooms, as it’s a bamboo-themed private apartment. Stays here are going for Rp 1,268,118/night, which isn’t too shabby if you’re travelling on a budget.

The owner of the building is a huge bamboo enthusiast, and built the apartment in a way that allowed for maximum airflow for guests to feel the rejuvenating breeze. Everything from the toilet to the furniture has some sort of bamboo-infused element to them. Guests can also grab a convenient bite at the Eden Cafe; must-trys here include their Kemangi Flores (Rp 65,000), which is basil rice served with sweet soy quail eggs and basil sambal.
