Kallang Ice World: Ice skating rink in Singapore
It doesn’t matter if you’re hoping to bring out your inner Casey Carlyle from “Ice Princess” or Chazz Michael Michaels from “Blades of Glory”. Kallang Ice World, right next to Stadium MRT station, boasts competition-standard ice so you can zoom around in circles or perform tricks if you’re up for it.

What do I need to wear for ice skating in Singapore?
Temperatures will be frigid to keep the ice frozen for skaters, but you won’t have to wear thick winter coats. Stick to long-sleeved layers that you can easily put on and take off so you won’t be sweating once you’re out of the rink.
It’s best to wear tighter fitting clothes like jeans and sweaters instead of dresses and baggy pants, especially if you’re a newbie to ice skating. This will prevent loose fabric from getting caught in your skates. If you have them, it’s a good idea to wear protective gear like knee pads and elbow guards as well.
Ice skating tips for beginners
With our lack of any cold weather in Singapore, we’re going to rightly assume that your exposure to ice skating might only be limited to whatever you see on TV. No worries, here are some tips to help you take that first step on ice:
- Find the right skate shoe size: Take your time to try on rental skates. Most ice-skating shoes run half to a full size smaller than regular shoe sizes. You still want slight wiggle room for your toes when you’re skating so size up if needed.
- Learn how to fall: It’s only natural that you’ll be falling a lot as a beginner, but it’s essential to prevent serious injuries. Try to fall forwards when you’re losing balance, with your knees bent and hands splayed out to catch yourself. This will lessen any pressure on your joints.
- Regain balance with one knee first: Start with pushing yourself off the ground onto one knee first. Move both legs into a squat position then slowly stand up, steadying yourself on your knees if needed.
- Don’t look down: As much as possible, look straight ahead as you skate. Looking down can cause you to lose your balance. Looking forward will also help guide you in the direction that you want to go.
- Use the snowplow stop: If you ever feel like you’re skating out of control and want to stop, learn how to do the snowplow stop. Turn your toes inwards into an inverted ‘V’ shape and you should slow down significantly without falling over.

Prices begin at $20 for adults and $18 for children aged 5-12 for a 2-hour session of ice skating at Kallang Ice World. Though skate rental is included, gloves and socks are mandatory so bring your own or purchase a pair from $2.50 each.

Kids have a little help with balance here with free support trainers available for use. For adults wobbling their way through the rink, there’s no way around it – you’ll have to hold on tight to bae’s hand. Otherwise, you can always keep our ice skating tips in mind and put them to practice!
