The name lyf Funan is a dead giveaway to where this new hotel is. Yes, it’s right inside Funan which is a short 5-minute walk from City Hall MRT.

Social butterflies can flutter around the many communal spaces around such as their kitchens and lounges to meet like-minded folks from all walks of life. 

Alternatively, you partake in the hotel’s range of free and ticketed activities like yoga and styling classes by Style Theory. The activities change every few weeks but you can check lyf Funan’s website for activities being held on your preferred booking dates.

7. Holiday Inn Express Serangoon – free continental breakfast you can dabao

Holiday Inn Express is the newer and slightly more affordable relative to the OG Holiday Inn. It proves that cheap hotels don’t have to sacrifice quality. The differences are slight with Holiday Inn Express even having newer rooms with more convenient designs like charging ports right by your bed instead of across the room.

You can also look forward to complimentary continental breakfast for all guests which are only offered at Holiday Inn Expresses, not the original Holiday Inn. There’s even an option to dabao your breakfast if you’re in a rush.

If you’re in the mood for local food, the location of the hotel is nearby to many popular food places with cheap options like Berseh Food Centre which has a delicious $20 all-you-can-eat mookata stall called Sedap Thai. There’s also Swee Choon Restaurant where you can get a late-night dim sum fix. Both are only a 5-minute-walk from the hotel.

8. Capri by Fraser China Square – spacious rooms and games like Atari Pong


Capri by Fraser China Square might just go the extra mile to decorate your room with flower petals and a traditional tingkat filled with freebies if you’re celebrating something special.

The hotel has superior rooms which are a spacious 26sqm and have Chinatown-inspired designs on the walls that give the room that local touch. In-room microwaves mean you can heat up small meals or snacks from 7-11 for a stay-in supper.

Besides the free breakfast buffet for all guests, you can also treat yourself at JÙN, an all-day dining restaurant in the hotel. They specialise in local dishes like chilli crab and salted egg chicken but they also serve wagyu beef and fresh seafood. 

Prices start at $8 for starter items like soup while mains range from $16 to $68. If the price is a stretch, you can take a 2-minute-walk to Maxwell Food Centre instead.

Other great features of the hotel include a rooftop pool, steam rooms and game rooms with an Atari Pong and Playstation 4. This options doesn’t come cheap compared to other hotels on the list but it’s worth the extra dollars if you’re planning a family staycay with little ones or as a group.
