Apple Announces New Green iPhone & More iPad Air Colours, Make Your Friends Green With Envy

New Apple announcements in March 2022

A few years ago, Apple introduced a ruggedly-handsome midnight green iPhone 11 Pro that only lasted one generation. Since then, fans have been clamouring for the colour to come back to the smartphone lineup – Sierra Blue was not as popular, it seems.

Finally, after weeks of the rumour mill churning, Apple finally delivered during their March 2022 keynote bearing only good news for fans of green-coloured smartphones. Keep reading for a brief overview of what was announced last night:

Two green colourways for the iPhone 13 & 13 Pro

At long last, Apple has brought back the bold green colour to their popular iPhone lineup.

For the iPhone 13 Pro, there’s more than meets the eye when it comes down to applying the alpine green shade to the phone. The colour is achieved through multiple layers of nanometre-scale metallic ceramics being applied to the stainless steel band and textured matte back glass. The huge iPhone 13 Pro Max will also get this colourway.

On the other hand, the iPhone 13’s green finish is done through a colour-matching process for the aluminium frame and the precision-milled back glass. The small and handy iPhone 13 Mini will also get the green colour added to its selection.

Both models still retain their IP68 rating for water and dust resistance and the front is also protected by the durable Ceramic Shield glass.

New iPad Air with M1 chip, 5G, and new colours

Meanwhile, the powerful M1 chip found in MacBooks and the iPad Pro has made its way into the new generation of the iPad Air. Users can expect a performance boost of 60% compared to the previous generation and an improvement to graphics so gaming and drawing won’t feel sluggish. This is a timely update seeing as the iPad Air was last updated in late-2020.

Other new additions to the iPad Air include an ultra-wide 12MP front-facing camera for higher-quality FaceTimes and a 5G chip so your YouTube videos won’t buffer as much when you’re on the go. You can also now get a sleek Magic Keyboard ($439) for a better typing experience.

The colours of the iPad Air have also been slightly refreshed for those who have been waiting for their favourite shade to be made available.

The previous editions had silver, space grey, rose gold, green, and sky blue. This year’s edition is a little different with space grey, starlight, pink, blue, and purple up for grabs. No green like the iPhone 13, unfortunately.

iPhone SE gets a 5G upgrade & better cameras

The trusty iPhone SE is an affordable option for those who don’t need the power of the higher-end models. But this year, Apple is bringing it up to speed by upgrading it with 5G support and the inclusion of the A15 Bionic smartphone chip – the same one in the iPhone 13 Pro. This means that the iPhone SE now packs a punch in its small frame.

But an upgraded chip means nothing if there are no new features. Thankfully, the camera system is also getting a significant boost to its capabilities. While it only has one 12MP wide camera, it can capture photos in high dynamic range (HDR), different photographic styles and portrait mode too.

If you’re a pro user who needs the best of the best Mac to work on, the new Mac Studio should be right up your alley. The small compact machine looks like the older sibling to the Mac Mini, but that’s where its similarities end.

You can customise the “brains” of the Mac Studio to be either the M1 Max chip or the new M1 Ultra. For those who don’t understand, just know that the M1 Max is powerful, and the M1 Ultra is even more powerful. It can also drive up to four external displays and an additional 4K TV.

There will also be no complaints about a lack of ports this time around. The back side of the Mac Studio has a suite of ports including multiple USB-C. Things in the front are kept simple with just two USB-C ports and one SD card slot for that sleek Apple aesthetic.

The new and aptly-named Studio Display screen is there to complement the Mac Studio. Stretching out at 27 inches, the 5K Retina screen has over 14.7 million pixels and supports over one billion colours, so you know what you’re looking at is as accurate as it can be. There’s also a 12MP camera, a six-speaker sound system, and a microphone so you don’t have to worry about getting external accessories with all that packaged into one display.
