This Horror-Themed Art Jamming Studio In Pasir Ris Has Classes For The Truly Unhinged

SCURO – Horror-themed art jamming studio

Mention “art jamming studios” and you’ll likely think of pastel colours and cute decor. However, hidden away in a gallery beside a condominium in Pasir Ris is a terrifyingly terrific surprise. Enter: SCURO, a horror-themed art jamming studio.

You’ll feel like you’ve stepped right into a Halloween Horror Nights exhibit, with the studio’s dim lighting and large, grotesque art pieces scattered around.

*Update: As of 2nd August 2024, SCURO is temporarily closed but will be opening at a new location in October 2024.

What can you do at SCURO?

Ghoulish guided & non-guided classes

SCURO has 3 different tiers of classes, ranging from unguided and partially guided to fully guided all the way.

For those who want to test the waters of dark themes, book the Exorcistic Fully Guided session which starts at $58/pax or $98/2 pax. A veteran instructor will guide you through painting a selected subject to goosebump-inducing perfection, which makes it great for beginner painters.

The Shoulder Devil Soft Guided session, on the other hand, is a departure from step-by-step classes, by having instructors come in when you need a little perspective or direction. These sessions go for $38/pax or $68/2 pax. This is best for those who don’t want someone haunting them throughout their session.

Some people just want to go bonkers with no rules, and for them, SCURO has the Unhinged and Unguided session for $28/pax or $48/2 pax. As its name suggests, there are no bounds to the monsters you can make.

Scan and browse SCURO’s Inspiration Deck, which has tips and reference pieces that’ll get the cogs in your wretched mind turning, in case of an artist block during your session.

Regardless of the class tier, payment includes a 40cm x 50cm stretched canvas, an abundance of painting materials such as palette knives, acrylic paints, aprons, and other surprisingly unconventional materials such as plastic forks and yarn.

When you’re done, you can hang your paints to dry or display them on their wicked wall, with eerie light fixtures to illuminate them.

Cop spooky prints & “blood” bags you can drink

It’s not just your own masterpieces you get to take home with you at SCURO, as they also sell horror photo and art prints by local artists like Tay Yuan Song – the owner of Singapore’s first horror-focused production company, and Ruyukii – a small-scale designer.

So how should you refuel while creating your morbid masterpieces? With blood, of course. SCURO sells “blood bag” drinks ($3.80), which are really just fruit punch packaged in an incredibly detailed blood bag replica – blood type included. We’re positive you won’t want to miss sucking on these.

How to get to SCURO
