In a blink of an eye, Ramadan is upon us yet again, meaning rendang, ramly burgers and takoyaki will be on our radars. But if you think that the Geylang Serai bazaar is the only place to get them, think again. There’s a whole range of alternative Ramadan Bazaars all over Singapore you can visit – some might even be in your neighbourhood!

1. Laloolalang Bazaar 2019 at Malay Heritage Centre

Malay Heritage Centre promotes local Malay culture, so it’s only fitting that there’s a Ramadan bazaar on its premises. Laloolalang Bazaar is a 4-day event from 16th-19th May filled with performances and traditional Malay food like Roti Kirai, lace pancakes, and Satay

It’s not all Malay food though – Japanese favourites like Takoyaki made an appearance last year. This bazaar is spacious with food booths well spread out, while the middle area is fitted with tables where you can enjoy your food in comfort.

It’s next door to Masjid Sultan which will be having its own bazaar so be sure to check both out while you’re down.

2. Sultan Bazaar 2019 at Masjid Sultan

Conveniently located at Arab Street near Bugis MRT, swing by Sultan Bazaar from now till 2nd June after work to stroll through the food tents flanking the street that leads up to Masjid Sultan

Stalls such as TBob’s Corner, known for their succulent steaks and tasty sauces will be at the bazaar. Alternatively, check out Singapore’s first Satay Burger by Famous Satay Burger – its beef patty is generously topped with savoury peanut sauce. They also offer Takoyaki with lamb filling.

If you’re in the area at around 7pm, you’ll hear the call to prayer or azan from the mosque. We recommend that you head down before 8pm, as stalls tend to sell out fast and close earlier.

3. Celebfest Rentak Raya at Suntec City Convention Centre

This year, Celebfest Rentak Raya will be the biggest it has ever been with over 200 stalls selling apparel and food at Suntec City from 17th-19th May. Stores like Bobo Berg’s will be selling local delights like Spicy Beef Noodles and their hit Tahu Begedil

Other than food, another highlight is the 70 artists and celebrities from Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia that’ll be making an appearance at the event with performances, such as singer and host Fauzie Laily.

4. Bazaar Raya UTARA 2019 at Woodlands

Bazaar Raya UTARA will be setting up their tentage from now till 1st June beside Causeway Point with about 80 stalls selling popular Malay delicacies like Ayam Percik (grilled chicken), Dendeng (dried beef slices) and Apam Balik, a fluffy pancake filled with peanuts or cream corn.

The best part is that this bazaar is now completely air-conditioned for the first time. There’s also a large area with rows of seats for you to watch performances such as dikir barat.

5. Vintage Ramadhan Bazaar 2019 at Kampong Punggol

Punggol residents now have their very own bazaar to visit from now till 3rd June, conveniently located a short 3-5 minute walk from Riviera LRT. At Vintage Ramadhan Bazaar, you’ll find yummy Malay delicacies like Rendang and Sambal Udang (prawns doused in sambal gravy).

You can even find Japanese desserts like Dorayaki ($3) and Hokkaido Lavender flavoured Ice Cream. ($5). Keep your eyes peeled for the live performances as well.

6. Ramadan Bazaar at Masjid Al-Mawaddah

Muslims and non-Muslims alike are welcome to drop by Masjid Al-Mawaddah for its Ramadan Bazaar from now till 2nd June. Plenty of Malay dishes like Mee Rebus and Mee Siam are available. If you drop by at around 6pm, the mosque gives out a small packet of porridge to the public free of charge.

A popular drink among Malays during the month of Ramadan is Air Khatira, a sweet drink in various flavours like rose and pandan – these will be available at the bazaar as well.

7. The Grand Souq 2019 at Singapore Expo

The Grand Souq originates from Turkey, but from 31st May-2nd June, it’ll be gracing our shores at Singapore Expo Hall. Besides a wide range of clothes, homeware like tablecloths and local food and beverages, you can drop by here to stock up on kuih like Pineapple Tarts, Kek Lapis and Suji Cookies.

If you haven’t already picked out your baju kurung, there’ll be plenty of those up for sale with both modern and traditional designs.

8. Hari Raya Bazaar at Our Tampines Hub

Our Tampines Hub has been decked out with decorations in preparation for Hari Raya which you can admire when you visit the Hari Raya Bazaar. The bazaar will be around from now till 2nd June and will have around 80 stalls.

For food and beverages, head straight to Central Plaza where you’ll find anything from Malay food like Ramly Burgers to interesting beverages like the highly raved Butter BOO:EH, a remake of Harry Potter’s Butterbeer. The stalls are spaced apart too, so you won’t have to jostle with the crowd.

Head to Festive Walk East after to check out the rows of apparel and other retail stores.

9. Bazaar Bawah Block at Tampines

For a Bazaar Bawah Block, which means bazaar under the block, residents around the area can head down to Tampines Street 83 from now till 1st June. Here, you’ll find Nasi Briyani and desserts like Chendol

Satisfy your sweet tooth and drop by Crusts & Crumbs’ booth which will be selling an assortment of sweet treats like Eclair, Ondeh-ondeh and other traditional Malay kuihs.

Residents of Jurong will want to check out the Jurong West Bazaar Ramadhan happening from now till 2nd June. It offers about 40 stalls selling food like Nasi Ambeng, a dish served with meat such as beef rendang and vegetables such as sambal kangkung
