It’s no secret that you’ll always be able to spot a Singaporean in any affordable shopping destination. And with a Mustafa Centre outlet set to open in JB, you can bet Singaporeans will be flocking over to check out the goods, especially with the exchange rate on our side.
What is Mustafa Centre?

For the uninitiated, Mustafa Centre is a 6-storey department store located in Little India that’s open 24/7. You’ll be able to find almost anything from clothes to appliances and even groceries here, all for an affordable price.

Old timers may also remember the outlet in Serangoon Plaza that closed down in 2017. Once the new outlet in JB opens, the OG outlet at Little India will no longer be the only outlet accessible to us.
But the outlet in JB won’t be its first overseas venture – the homegrown retailer also has outlets in India, Bangladesh, Sunshine Central Penang, and Plaza Lagoi in Bintan.
Where will Mustafa Centre in JB be located?

Mustafa Centre’s flagship store in JB will be located in Capital City Mall, which sits in Jalan Tampoi, just a 15-minute drive from the JB CIQ. In fact, the Mustafa Centre logo was recently spotted on the mall’s facade – a promising sign that the opening might finally be around the corner.
In case you didn’t know, both the Capital City Mall and the Mustafa Centre JB outlet were initially expected to open in the 2nd half of 2023. But things hit a snag, with delays stretching over 2 years due to ongoing negotiations with existing unit owners in the mall.
For a bit of context, Capital City Mall first opened in April 2018, before shuttering in February 2020 after running into financial difficulties. When it eventually reopens, Mustafa Centre is expected to occupy 5 floors of the mall, though that can only happen if they secure full agreement from all current owners to lease or sell their units.
When will Mustafa Centre in JB open?
Although an official opening date for the Mustafa Centre outlet in JB hasn’t been announced yet at the time of writing, the brand has already paid a deposit of RM96 million (~S$31 million) to the developer of Capital City Mall, so we’re hoping the plans will be put into action soon.
