Mirror Mirror: Journey Into the Mind
Whether you are looking for a new spot to visit for the weekend or an avid art fan, the ArtScience Museum next to Marina Bay Sands has you covered with their brand new exhibition, Mirror Mirror: Journey Into the Mind. It features 8 interactive zones where it isn’t just about admiring art, but also stepping inside and seeing your own thoughts come to life.
Opening on 8th March 2025, this exhibit is designed to mess with your head – in the best way possible.
What to expect at Mirror Mirror: Journey Into the Mind
Doorways
As you enter Mirror Mirror, you’ll be greeted by the first piece of the exhibit, Doorways, where you will be faced with a choice: 3 doors of different colours, each leading to a different adventure. There’s no right or wrong pick as you will eventually go through all the same zones. The only twist is the order in which you experience them.
Inside, the rooms are all connected, creating a seamless transition from one experience to the next. Try to keep track of which door you came through though – we went in circles a few times before we found the exit. Here are the zones beyond the doors:
Memory Storage & Open Window
Entering Memory Storage feels like getting sucked into a virtual world – think Wreck-It Ralph vibes, but without the glitching. There’s vibey music playing as lights and words flash all over the metal scaffolding of the interactive piece. Scan the QR code, pick a question, and contribute a word into a collective memory bank, which will then appear on a the digital installation.
If you’re feeling poetic, move on to the connecting Open Window zone. Here, scan another QR code found on the floor and you’ll see the word you submitted in Memory Storage, along with 2 additional words, will be used to craft an AI-generated poem. You’ll even get to pick from 3 background images and sign off with your name, so when your masterpiece pops up on the screen, everyone will know it’s yours.
Grey Matter
Grey Matter is where things get a little more mind-blowing. This room takes you inside a visual representation of the brain’s inner workings, where neurons light up as they transmit thoughts and signals. Inspired by real neuroscience, this exhibit explores how our brains process information, make decisions, and form memories.
Developed in collaboration with The Society for Neuroscience Singapore Chapter, Grey Matter is as much a science lesson as it is a fascinating, immersive experience. The entire installation is designed to make the invisible workings of the brain visible, giving you a rare chance to “see” your own thoughts in action.
Brainstorm
At Brainstorm, you’ll get to experience the exploration of throwing ideas around, literally. Using the foam balls provided in the room, toss them at floating icons on an interactive mesh screen. The icons will jiggle or even light up when hit, adding to the growing digital artwork. If you’re bringing your kiddo along, there’s almost no doubt that this will be their favourite interactive zone at Mirror Mirror.
Moodscape
Moodscape is the room to be in if you want a vibe check. A dimly lit, foggy space with shifting red, blue, and yellow lights, Moodscape heightens your senses while mellow music or the sound of rain play in the background. Plus, it’s so trippy that I’m sure a drunk version of me would be on the floor from sensory overload.
At the centre of the room, sit back and relax on one of the comfy suspended chairs as you ponder upon your emotions, life, or maybe just what to have for dinner later. The fog is so thick you can barely see a metre ahead, so be careful not to bump into a wall on your way out, like we almost did.
Forest of Echoes
Forest of Echoes is a maze of mirrored pillars and lasers, where reflections of yourself multiply endlessly. It’s designed to symbolise the hidden depths of your consciousness. The more you move, the more versions of yourself appear. So if you’ve ever wondered what a hundred of yous look like at once, now’s your chance to find out. The best spot to be standing at is right in the middle, as that’s where practically every mirror will have your face staring back at you.
Mirrors of Tomorrow
A futuristic twist on a fortune teller’s mirror, Mirrors of Tomorrow projects your reflection onto an arched window where you’ll have to move your arms around to pick a card on the screen. Once you’ve got your assigned icon, strike a pose and snap a couple of cute shots for the memories.
Before you head home, don’t forget to collect a keepsake to take home. Behind the card, you’ll find a deep and meaningful poetic memento. Mirrors of Tomorrow is basically an interactive photo booth with a philosophical twist.
Is it worth checking out Mirror Mirror: Journey Into the Mind? – The Smart Local review
If you’re someone who is fascinated by science-y things presented in a manner that makes learning fun and interesting, this one’s for you. While what goes on in our brain is honestly quite complicated, the exhibition tries to explain its inner workings through interactive installations that give you a visual representation so it’s easier to understand. And, those who are into deep thinking or philosophy, this is a bonus as you’ll have many chances to reflect on your past memories and future dreams.
We do we have to warn you, though, the exhibition isn’t too big. You could probably be done in less than an hour. Plus, if you’re bringing younger kids, chances are the philosophical themes are going to be beyond their understanding. They could still have fun with the activities but whether its worth paying the museum entrance ticket for them is something to consider.
