GBTB Sakura 2025 – Widest Variety Of Cherry Blossoms & Free Entry To The Anime Garden

Gardens by the Bay Sakura 2025

Every spring, Singaporeans flock to Japan to catch the mesmerising sight of cherry blossoms in full bloom. But if your wallet isn’t quite ready for it – there’s good news. The Gardens by the Bay Sakura festival is back from 8th March to 6th April 2025, and it’s set to be the biggest one yet.

There will be a dreamy sea of cherry blossoms, plus a lineup of Japanese-themed events and activities happening both indoors and outdoors – basically, the closest you’ll get to experiencing spring in Japan without leaving Singapore.

The 10th edition of Gardens by the Bay’s iconic Sakura floral display is pulling out all the stops this year, bringing a piece of Japan’s Fukuoka Prefecture right to our doorstep. Besides being the biggest showcase yet – it also features the largest variety of cherry blossom trees to date.

You’ll find a stunning recreation of Phantom Castle – a striking light installation inspired by a mysterious castle tower believed to have once existed – in the Flower Dome.

History buffs will also recognise Kokura Castle, a beloved landmark from Kitakyushu, while the glow of bamboo lanterns – straight from Japan’s annual Takeakari Bamboo Lantern Festival – sets the scene for some seriously aesthetic photo ops.

Indoor Japanese-themed activities

Cultural dance performances & traditional tea ceremony

There’s more to Gardens by the Bay’s Sakura festival than just pretty pink blooms. As you soak in the floral display, choose to experience a slice of Japan’s traditions through a lineup of free cultural performances – just note that admission charges to the Flower Dome still apply.

Catch folk dances like Minyo and the Sendai Suzume Odori (Sparrow Dance), where performers flutter and twirl in vibrant costumes. If you’ve ever been curious about the art of Japanese tea ceremonies, this is your chance to witness a live demonstration by tea masters.

For an even more immersive experience, take part in the tea ceremony on a pay-as-you-like basis, with all proceeds going to Gardens by the Bay’s Gift of Gardens programme. So you’re not just sipping matcha – you’re also supporting a good cause.

Outdoor Japanese-themed programmes

If you need another reason to check out the Sakura festival, here it is – free outdoor programmes happening on the 8th and 9th March 2025.

  • Catch an animated film: settle in for a screening of Ghost Cat Anzu, a 2024 animated film about an 11-year-old girl abandoned at her grandfather’s temple, where she meets a talking ghost cat.
  • Make your own mochi: watch mochi masters in action as they pound rice into chewy, pillowy mochi, and try your hand at using the wooden mallet to create your own sweet treat.
  • Eat your way through Kyushu: immerse in the sights, sounds, and flavours of Kyushu at the Sakura Fair, then fuel up with authentic Japanese goodies like fruit-flavoured slushies, ramen, and matcha.
