Rainbow Connection II at The Malay Heritage Centre
Most of us are simple folks; we see a rainbow, we take a photo. Plus, they only happen once in a blue sky moon, which makes it extra magical whenever we spot ‘em. This month, get ready to see them whenever you want thanks to the Malay Heritage Centre’s (MHC) Rainbow Connection II display, happening from now till 29th May 2022.
More things to do this month:
- New things to do in May
- Best deals in May
- New cafes and restaurants in May
- Karaoke studios to visit in 2022

Situated in Kampong Gelam, which is just a 10-min walk from Bugis MRT, MHC’s sparkly new exhibit is made up of 500 light fixtures that bring the place to life. These aren’t your regular ol’ lightbulbs either – they’re actually upcycled cookie jars and solar lights. Stan sustainability.

You can also get up close to see each container’s vibrant designs that come together to form the “rainbow”.

Rainbow Connection II is just one of MHC and the National Heritage Board’s projects to help underserved communities in Singapore by also supporting the local arts scene.
The brains behind the piece is artist Lee Yun Qin, who worked with local beneficiaries from Brighton Connection to bring the exhibit to life. All the jars you’ll see have been individually painted, and MHC describes the installation as a symbol of diverse individuals coming together – a pretty good reflection of Singapore’s rojak culture.

While the exhibit can be visited throughout the day, nothing beats seeing the colours pop at night. MHC will be extending its opening hours till 9pm, so no need to worry about missing out if you’re hoping to pop by after dinner.
Once you’re done, take a stroll around the area to enjoy Kampong Gelam and Haji Lane while they’re still decked out in Raya decor.
