Patricia Piccinini: We Are Connected

From X-Men and Harry Potter to Penelope and Border, films across the years have presented whimsical, mutated beings – things that are human… but at the same time, not quite.

For those intrigued by the idea of evolution and hybrids, Patricia Piccinini: We Are Connected is bound to leave you with tingles up your spine. The newest ArtScience Museum exhibit opens on 5th August 2022, with hyperrealistic artworks of animal-human creatures.

Pieces feature hybrid creatures from all walks of life – you’ll see human-like pups and ape-like grannies in everyday scenarios. The artworks are inspired by things that are the same same, but different – half this and half that – and challenge the definition of what we consider beautiful.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re an arts student looking for a mind-boggling exhibit to ponder over, or a curious Singaporean visiting because ArtScience Museum = must go. Take an afternoon stroll through her exhibit to ruminate over themes of climate change, technology and genetic engineering. Kinda like Netflix’s Sweet Tooth IRL if you think about it.
