“Wake me up when September ends,” is what Green Day would say at this time of the year. But with a slew of good food coming our way, I’d rather be up and food hunting the moment this month starts. Below are 20 new cafes and restaurants to check out this September:

1. Fluff Stack – jiggly souffle pancakes made from scratch

When it comes to Instagrammable desserts, Fluff Stack definitely takes the cake for this month. Their jiggly Japanese-style pancakes are made to order from scratch, ensuring that you get a sweet treat as soft as a cloud.

For chocolate lovers, dive straight into their Hazelnut Chocolate Souffle Pancake ($13.80), which is doused with a generous amount of hazelnut chocolate sauce and topped with Ferrero Rocher bits, fresh raspberries and a dollop of cream cheese. Other flavours include Mango Passion Fruit Souffle Pancakes ($14.80) as well as Oolong Boba Souffle Pancakes ($9.80), the latter perfect for all diehard bubble tea fans out there.

2. Elixir Boutique Roasters – coffee cocktails and flower-topped brunch eats

For a dining experience that packs a punch, head to Elixir Boutique Roasters which carries a good alcoholic cuppa. Located near the Botanic Gardens, this cafe matches the landmark’s aesthetic with vibrant dishes topped with fruit, fresh greens and flowers.

As evident from their Instagram page, a crowd-favourite here is definitely the Brulee French Toast ($18), a sweet, caramelised toast topped with fresh berries and flower petals for that extra flair.

Rather than your usual flat white or cappuccino, take your brunch experience up a notch and order one of the coffee cocktails, such as Stormbringer ($13), which is made of dark rum and Guatemala Antigua single-origin beans. All their coffee cocktails are crafted lighter than usual so you can savour them mid-day without feeling lightheaded after.

3. One Good Trade Cafe – networking cafe for traders

It’s probably hard to find time to take a good breather if you’re working in the bustling trading industry. For a place to chill without being too far away from work, head to One Good Trade Cafe which is a space made for investors and traders to mingle or simply relax with free-to-browse investment books. They also provide strong WiFi, as well as a live big screen TV to catch up on the latest news with.

4. Mom’s Touch – famous Korean fast food restaurant

Mom’s Touch is one of the best South Korean fast-food chains, as proclaimed by my friends and I who spent a good 5 months there for exchange. After expanding to the States, Taiwan and Vietnam, they’re finally headed our way to Singapore in Paya Lebar Quarters.

While they won’t be bringing their entire menu over, some of the exciting dishes you can get your hands on include Mom’s Touch Fried Chicken ($3.60) available in spicy and non-spicy variants, as well as their Incredible Burger, a hefty one which comes with a chicken cutlet topped with an egg, slices of ham and their signature “special sauce”.

5. Mixx Thai Cockles Bar – Thai seafood bar open past midnight

Late-night suppers are shiok, but if you’re tired of feasting on mookata over and over again with your pals, there’s a new Thai supper spot in town to check out: Mixx Thai Cockles Bar.  It’s the very first Thai seafood bar to open in Singapore and just like its night market origins, is open from the evenings till past midnight.

6. Shake Shake In A Tub – fries with ice cream for dipping

We all have that one friend who dips their fries in ice cream. Some love it, some find it plain weird. But if you part of the former, head to Shake Shake In A Tub where they serve 8 different flavours of fries with all-natural soft serve for dipping. 

Flavours available include cheese, truffle and sour cream and onion, but if you’re up for something that literally tingles your tastebuds, go for their mala flavoured fries.

Indulge in this guilty pleasure and go straight for their sinful Giant-Sized Tub ($9.80), where you can pick 3 flavours of fries, with a cup of soft serve in the middle. Coffee and toast is as classic a combo as cafe grub comes. To go back to the good ol’ basics with your bunch, head to Gather The Misfits. This cafe exudes a minimalistic Wes Anderson vibe, with pastel walls and neon wall signs to complete the aesthetic.

8. What’s Pide – Turkish flatbread with a Korean twist

Korean fusion food is fast gaining traction in Singapore, and What’s Pide is riding the trend well. Bringing an Asian take to the traditionally Turkish flatbread, this cafe combines the pide with ingredients like edamame, bulgogi and wasabi, providing a unique pocket of flavours.

Mrs. Park ($9) is probably their most representative dish, with bulgogi beef, jalapenos and caramelised onions stuffed within the thin, yet pillowy, bread. Top up $4 to add on fries and a drink.

Seriously Keto doesn’t sugarcoat it – excess sugar is bad for you, and so are carbs when you overload on them. Once an online keto-friendly bakery, they’ve since opened their doors as a cafe along Seah Street. Head down to grab one of their ready-to-eat baked cakes, buns and cupcakes.

Keto bakeries, for the uninitiated, focus on baking treats with less carbs and less or no sugar. If you’re keeping track of your intake, Seriously Keto indicates the amount of carbs in grams that goes into each of their products on their website.

10. Trufflelicious – cheesy truffle dishes served from a truck


There are few ingredients that make you salivate with just a whiff of its scent and truffle is definitely one of them. You’ll probably smell Trufflicious, the new food truck store in Funan Mall, way before you see it.

Here, you’ll find truffle-based dishes priced from $10, which is relatively affordable given the pricey nature of the key ingredient.

11. The Peel 1889 – affordable made-on-demand pizza

The Peel 1889 is a new kid in the block at Serangoon Gardens serving up affordable Italian fare with a modern flair. Pizza is best eaten fresh, so you might be glad to hear that the ones here are all made on-demand.

If you’re able to, make sure to order their 1889 Magherita Premium ($23) – there’s only a limited supply available each day! There’s always something exciting each time you return with their Special Of the Week ($18-$25), featuring fun dishes such as Chilli Prawn Pizza.

12. Heart of Darkness – 30 taps and Saigon’s best beer

When it comes to Vietnamese beverages, coffee might usually the first thing that comes to mind, with beer taking a back seat. Despite that, Saigon actually has a bustling craft beer scene and one of it’s best breweries, Heart Of Darkness, has recently arrived in Singapore.

You’ll be spoilt for choice with their 30 types of beers, featuring a permanent core range, limited releases, guest taps and local collaborations. Popular drinks here include Dream Alone Pale Ale (from $9) which comes with tropical tangerine and mango notes as well as their Kurt’s Insane IPA (from $10) which comes with a whopping 7.1% ABV, and is coined as their hoppiest beer.

13. Mediumrare – steakhouse by Saveur

If you’d like to beef up your dating game, bring bae to Mediumrare, a new steakhouse in the Eas serving Australian steaks such as Ribeye (from $20) and Flat Iron ($18).

Diners can pick from a variety of familiar sauce flavours, such as mushroom and black pepper. Alternatively, spice it up with the mala or black bean sauce. Each steak here is served with two sides such as fries and mac and cheese and mashed potatoes.

14. Chalerm Thai – comfort Thai food at Capitol Piazza

Those familiar with the land of smiles might recognise the name Chalerm which is the name of one of Bangkok’s most popular theatres – Sala Chalermkrung Royal Theatre.

So it’s probably not a coincidence that Charlem Thai is located near the Capitol Theatre at Capitol Piazza. The airy and loft-styled restaurant serves up comfort Thai food such as classic Seafood Tom Yum Soup ($15) and Mango Sticky Rice ($10).

15. Unauna – $9.90 unagi rice bowls

There seems to be a never-ending slew of unagi restaurants that are entering Singapore. But we’re definitely not complaining cause they provide for endless options for us to get our eel meat fix.

A new player in town is Unauna, which serves one of the cheapest hitsumabushi – grilled unagi chopped and laid over a bowl of rice. The eel here is cooked over hot charcoal, resulting in a crisp exterior, tender flesh and a smoky aroma. Mmm

The best part, their best-selling Hitsumabushi is priced from a pocket-friendly $9.80. If there is no such thing as too much unagi in your dictionary, then upsize it to a double ($19.80) for the best experience.

16. Cloudstreet – modern Australian fine-dining

Less is more at modern Australian restaurant Cloudstreet, the latest restaurant by Michelin star chef Rishi Naleendra. Located along Amoy Street, this fine-dining restaurant serves up premium ingredients, supported by seasoning and garnishing that complements rather than complicates each dish.

17. Seizan Uni Ramen – sea urchin ramen at Picnic

Two Michelin-starred Japanese restaurant Seizan is now has a sister branch located in Picnic – Seizan Uni Ramen. Look forward to an innovative take on uni, or sea urchin, which is made into a broth here, rather than served in its usual raw form.

Unlike their main store, this one only sells 3 dishes, with a focus on their Uni Ramen ($21) which is made from fresh, premium bafun uni, and has a rich and buttery taste. The chef, Haruhiko Yamamoto, is one who prefers to bring out the natural flavours of the ingredients, rather than overload it with other seasonings so you can look forward to an unadulterated uni broth. 

Other dishes available include Dashi Somen ($18) and Kumamoto Wagyu Ramen ($20).

18. Beurre – unorthodox combination of ingredients

Located in Tanjong Pagar,  Beurre is a fine-casual restaurant which serves dishes centered around the key ingredient of butter. Many of their menu items also feature unorthodox combinations of ingredients.

19. Sushiro – Japan’s largest conveyor sushi chain

Head ups sushi lovers ‘cuz Japan’s largest conveyor belt sushi chain, Sushiro, is finally here in Singapore! Not to be confused with the existing Sushiro in Upper Thomson, this one is a separate establishment, with its first foray into Southeast Asia.

There are over 100 varieties of sushi and side dishes that start from $2.20 per plate, so make sure to go in with an empty stomach to feast on as many as possible. Expect a dining experience very much like one their OG stores in Japan, as all their ingredients are air-flown over for the original menu to be replicated as closely as possible.

20. Kenny Rogers – back in town and now halal-certified

That’s right, the family-favourite Kenny Rogers is coming back to Singapore with their newest outlet scheduled to be open in JEM on 28th September 2019. 

The American diner closed its last outlet in Singapore in April this year. Although it’s only been 5 months, make sure to save the date if you’ve been missing their rotisserie chicken, corn muffins, and who can forget, mac-n-cheese.

Upon reopening, their menu will be halal-certified, unlike previously, with their originally pork-based dishes replaced by substitutes like salmon and sirloin.
