Some of us may already familiar with The Alley from Taiwan, with its iconic deer logo and brown sugar bubble tea. You’ll be pleased to know that they’re opening a sit-down cafe, The Alley Luxe at Orchard Cineleisure come mid-April.

What sets this bubble tea store apart is their house-made deerioca tapioca pearls, which are brewed for 4 hours. Besides their Signature Brown Sugar Deerioca Series, we recommend giving their Aurora Series with pretty gradients a try.

Soetamjiak offers Japanese taiyaki croissants in over 16 fillings such as Garlic Butter, Teriyaki Chicken, and Almond. For the uninitiated, these croissants are basically pancakes shaped like a fish or other cute animals that are usually sold by street vendors.

Joining a string of other cafes in Tiong Bahru, Voyage Patisserie is a perfect inclusion to your cafe-hopping list with its range of French-style desserts. Their Salted Caramel Choux Puffs with layers of chocolate mousse are not to be missed. Other dessert options you can try include Vanilla Creme Brulee ($10) and Tiramisu ($13).

7. Flying Wok – XXL tom yum seafood hotpot for 10 pax

This one’s for all the tom yum lovers out there. Flying Wok is about to make all your dreams come true with their ginormous pot of halal XXL seafood tom yum. Big groups can opt for the medium ($22) sized bowl for 3-4 people or large ($80) sized bowl for 8-10 people. Of course, you choose to have a bowl to yourself and order their Jumbo Mama Wok ($13) that’s good for 1-2.

Unlike other eateries, Flying Wok includes eggs in their tom yum broth, which gives it extra texture. Located in a humble coffee shop in Canberra, this eatery is definitely worth the trip.

The newest and arguably coolest cocktail bar in town to check out right now is Risky Business. If the name of the bar sounds familiar, it’s because it takes after Tom Cruise’s 1983 movie with the same name. That’s not all though – each cocktail’s name and the decor of this bar is inspired by the actor and the movies he’s starred in.

For appetizers, go straight for their Bombas from Barcelona ($8), which are deep fried to perfection. The bombas aren’t the only thing that’s from Barcelona though. The entire restaurant’s decor is Barcelona inspired, with its blue sofas and wooden wicker chairs.

Aside from our usual G&Ts, you’ll be hard pressed to find interesting gin concoctions in bars. All that is set to change with beGIN’s opening. Try their Lavender Butterfly Pea Infused Gin ($25) that looks like it came out of a Hogwarts potions class, with coconut water, lavender syrup and elderflower as its main ingredients.

Alternatively, try their Gin Flight ($28) which will offer you a taste of 4 different gins: Zeer Oude Bols Genever, Hendrick’s, Hayman’s Old Tom and Tanqueray London Dry. Shangri-la is opening their first standalone establishment, Shang Social at Jewel Changi in mid-April. Big groups are more than welcome to drop by, since its space offers 220 seats in 3 dining settings – a dining room, a marketplace, and a bar, each offering a different menu.
