You know the drill: A new month means a brand new list of new cafes and restaurants to check out, perfect for those who need a change from their go-to restaurants or are on the hunt for something new. From DIY pastas and French desserts, to bars that serve artisanal gin concoctions, here are some eateries to check out this month:

1. The Alley Luxe – famous sit-down bubble tea cafe from Taiwan

Some of us may already familiar with The Alley from Taiwan, with its iconic deer logo and brown sugar bubble tea. You’ll be pleased to know that they’re opening a sit-down cafe, The Alley Luxe at Orchard Cineleisure come mid-April.

What sets this bubble tea store apart is their house-made deerioca tapioca pearls, which are brewed for 4 hours. Besides their Signature Brown Sugar Deerioca Series, we recommend giving their Aurora Series with pretty gradients a try.

2. Little Oasis Cafe – healthy meals with good vegetable portions

Health nuts will want to check out Little Oasis, a hidden cafe at Everton Park.It offers healthy meals made from fresh ingredients and no artificial additives.

They offer all-day breakfast items which include Avocado Egg Bagels (from $7), Wholewheat Breakfast Tortillas and Banana Oatmeal Pancakes (from $7). Lunch items like Salmon Soba ($14) are also available.

3. Soetamjiak – taiyaki with 16 choices of filling

Soetamjiak offers Japanese taiyaki croissants in over 16 fillings such as Garlic Butter, Teriyaki Chicken, and Almond. For the uninitiated, these croissants are basically pancakes shaped like a fish or other cute animals that are usually sold by street vendors.

4. Curry Nations – $14 North and South Indian buffet

Curry Nations offers delicious North and South Indian cuisine at affordable prices. You can expect dishes such as Bhindi Nentra ($10), made of ladies fingers and caramelised onions, and Kashimiri Pulao ($6) which is basmati rice served with dried fruits and cashew nuts.

5. Voyage Patisserie – delicate French pastries

Joining a string of other cafes in Tiong Bahru, Voyage Patisserie is a perfect inclusion to your cafe-hopping list with its range of French-style desserts. Their Salted Caramel Choux Puffs with layers of chocolate mousse are not to be missed. Other dessert options you can try include Vanilla Creme Brulee ($10) and Tiramisu ($13).

6. Eleven Strands – Italian meets French

Italian meets French cuisine at Eleven Strands, a cafe tucked away in Serangoon. It’s the perfect place for a midday munch, with a fixed Brunch Special every weekend from 12pm-4pm, with staples like smoked salmon, avocado, poached eggs, and croissants.

7. Flying Wok – XXL tom yum seafood hotpot for 10 pax

This one’s for all the tom yum lovers out there. Flying Wok is about to make all your dreams come true with their ginormous pot of halal XXL seafood tom yum. Big groups can opt for the medium ($22) sized bowl for 3-4 people or large ($80) sized bowl for 8-10 people. Of course, you choose to have a bowl to yourself and order their Jumbo Mama Wok ($13) that’s good for 1-2.

Unlike other eateries, Flying Wok includes eggs in their tom yum broth, which gives it extra texture. Located in a humble coffee shop in Canberra, this eatery is definitely worth the trip.

8. Souffle – sweet and savoury French souffles

Tipo Pasta Bar presents us with another option for dining with our Muslim friends at. Located conveniently in Bugis, this halal eatery lets you build your own pasta from just $9.90.Toppings such as Truffle Olive Oil ($2), Black Caviar ($3) or Sauteed Prawns ($3) can be added on.

Idlewild is a luxe cocktail bar with grand old-school interiors. There are 20 different cocktails you can choose from, with origins from all over the world. Commonly found in Mexico, Cantarito is good for 2 people and is made up of tequila grapefruit, spiced salt, absinthe, soda and a blend of citrus.

14. Risky Business – Tom Cruise-inspired bar

The newest and arguably coolest cocktail bar in town to check out right now is Risky Business. If the name of the bar sounds familiar, it’s because it takes after Tom Cruise’s 1983 movie with the same name. That’s not all though – each cocktail’s name and the decor of this bar is inspired by the actor and the movies he’s starred in.

You can choose from drinks which are priced at $18 per cocktail, such as Your ego is writing cheques your body can’t cash or You can’t hand the Vermouth. Sip on your drink while you take in the bar’s decor, that’ll make you feel as if you’re on set in one of Tom Cruise’s movies with its blue walls and red coloured lighting.

15. Shatoburian – specialises in premium Wagyu beef

Wagyu connoisseurs will want to check out Shatoburian, a Japanese restaurant that focuses on all things beefy. Choose from a variety of dishes such as Chef’s Yakiniku Don or the Classic Truffle Don, which is a Japanese Wagyu Beef Steak in truffle shoyu, served with onsen egg, rice and truffle sprinkles. You can opt for either the A3 Wagyu Beef ($48) or the A5 Hida Wagyu Beef ($138).

Alternatively, try their Chateaubriand ($138) which is the best and most succulent cut of the tenderloin. The menu changes according to seasonal availability, so keep your fingers crossed and you might be able to try their caviar, foie gras and wide range of truffle toppings.

For appetizers, go straight for their Bombas from Barcelona ($8), which are deep fried to perfection. The bombas aren’t the only thing that’s from Barcelona though. The entire restaurant’s decor is Barcelona inspired, with its blue sofas and wooden wicker chairs.

19. beGIN – artisanal gin concoctions

Aside from our usual G&Ts, you’ll be hard pressed to find interesting gin concoctions in bars. All that is set to change with beGIN’s opening. Try their Lavender Butterfly Pea Infused Gin ($25) that looks like it came out of a Hogwarts potions class, with coconut water, lavender syrup and elderflower as its main ingredients.

Alternatively, try their Gin Flight ($28) which will offer you a taste of 4 different gins: Zeer Oude Bols Genever, Hendrick’s, Hayman’s Old Tom and Tanqueray London Dry. As for bar bites, you can expect British-Indian snacks such as Nacho del Goa ($15), which is tiger prawns on papadum topped with Indian gravy.

20. Shang Social – mix of Chinese cuisines by Shangri-La

Shangri-la is opening their first standalone establishment, Shang Social at Jewel Changi in mid-April. Big groups are more than welcome to drop by, since its space offers 220 seats in 3 dining settings – a dining room, a marketplace, and a bar, each offering a different menu.
