We’ve officially settled into the second half of the year – there’s undoubtedly an exciting array of things to do, but we’ve also shortlisted a number of new eateries for all to feast at. From a Snoopy pop-up cafe to donut ice-cream cones, here are 20 new cafes and restaurants that opened their doors this month:

1. Snoopy x Kumoya – themed pop-up cafe

From Care Bears to Pusheen pop-ups, Kumoya is known for their themed cafes. This time round, it’s Snoopy that’s getting the fanfare. Expect black-and-white Snoopy-themed decor with an entire menu filled with quirky dishes showing off Snoopy and his best buds.

Try the Snoopy Sleep Tight Mushroom Sauce Rice With Roasted Chicken ($27.90) for a hearty meal – it comes with creamy scrambled eggs and cherry tomatoes.

For drinks, the Matcha Matcha Friendship Strawberry Frappe ($12.90) is sure to delight.

2. Whale Lala Cafe – Western food near Tai Seng MRT

Whale Lala Cafe is a new Western cafe convenient for those who work around the Tai Seng area. Look forward to classic pasta dishes like Aglio Olio ($9) with add-ons like Bacon and Mushrooms for $2 as well as burgers like the Truffle Mushroom Burger ($11).

There are also plenty of sharing sides, like the Whale Lala Chicken Wings ($8) that come with a tasty marinade of honey and paprika.

3. Xing Fu Tang – brown sugar milk tea with stir-fried pearls

While plenty of Taiwanese bubble tea joints are opening in Singapore, Xing Fu Tang is one that paves the way with handmade, stir-fried brown sugar pearls. These pearls are slightly singed to add a subtle toasty flavour to the drink.

The Brown Sugar Boba Milk ($5.30) is their signature drink – it comes with a full scoop of brown sugar pearls and is generously dusted with caramelised brown sugar. Other unique drinks include the Mango Smoothie with Rabbit Panna Cotta ($6.90), which comes with a rabbit-shaped panna cotta on top and pink pearls.

4. Jok Jok Mor – Thai claypot porridge

Along Rangoon Road – where the original Jewel Cafe & Bar once stood – Jok Jok Mor has been cooking up a storm with their traditional Thai claypot porridge. That’s their obvious specialty with the menu offering 3 types of porridge: Tom YumSee Ew Kao (Light Soy Sauce), and Mak Kum (Tamarind-infused).

There’ll be a generous heap of ingredients piled in no matter which porridge you order, with the likes of river prawns, pork ribs, and minced meat. Prices start from $8.90 and you also have the option to swap out the porridge for mama instant noodles.

5. Pazzion Cafe – brunch cafe by local shoe brand

Local shoe brand PAZZION now offers more than just heels – they’ve branched out to F&B with their latest Jewel Changi outlet. It’s a stylish cafe, perfect to while away lazy afternoons with a solid cup of Joe – their coffee’s freshly-roasted and made of Brazilian and Colombian beans.

It also dishes out brunch fare like Cold Truffle Pasta ($18) and a Quinoa Bowl ($18) which comes topped with grilled salmon, avocado, and a poached egg. Those looking for sweet alternatives will enjoy the French Toast ($17), an assortment of fresh fruits atop thick brioche slices.

6. Coney Donut – donut ice-cream cones

There’s been no shortage of sweet treats lately – Coney Donut has just opened up in TripleOne Somerset. Try the Soft Serve Donut Cone ($6.80), where you can choose 2 complimentary add-ons – toppings like marshmallows, cookies, and Fruit Loops.

There are also savoury choices, such as their Donut Dog ($6.80) that’s generously slathered with chicken chili sauce and relish. As a set meal ($8.80), it also comes with a drink and a side of cajun wedges.

7. the kins’ – “burnt” cheesecake near Pasir Panjang MRT

the kins is a new coffee joint right next to Pasir Panjang MRT with single origin beans from local roastery, Two Degree North Coffee Co. They have a solid selection of drinks like White Cold Brew ($7) and White (from $4.50), but also offer tea lattes like Matcha Latte ($6) and Hojicha Latte ($6).

While you’ve got a range of savoury mains like Smashed Avocado with Feta Cheese ($16) and Beer Battered Fish & Chips ($16), there’s a sole reason why many flock to this far-flung cafe – for its doozy of a Burnt Cheesecake ($7.50). No doubt this looks like a rookie baking attempt gone wrong but the top is intentionally singed black for added char and smokiness. It comes served with a side of sweetened cream.

8. Wu Pao Chun Bakery – gourmet lychee rose and red wine longan buns

While Taiwanese bubble tea chains are the gold standard, Taiwan’s also known for a number of other things – their bakeries are one. Wu Pao Chun Bakery has just opened its doors at Capitol Piazza with a selection of unique buns and pastries.

One notable bun is the award-winning Lychee Rose Royale and Red Wine Longan loaves that are priced at $20.80 each. If you’re not willing to fork up the steep prices, try their other baked goods: the Red Bean Toast ($5.20) and Satay-Satay Bun ($3.50) are both solid choices.

9. Asian Rad Afters Singapore – bubble waffles from Osaka

We all like our food to look good and taste good. And that’s exactly what we’ll get with Asian Rad Afters’ bubble waffles, which comes with a mishmash of sweet ingredients wrapped within an egglet waffle.

While originally from Osaka, you can try several Singaporean exclusives like The Peranakan ($12.50) which comes with coconut ice cream, sweet potato fresh cream, and fresh fruits like dragonfruits and mango.

10. CHICHA San Chen – customisable bubble tea from Taiwan

As far as new bubble tea joints go, CHICHA San Chen takes the cake – while others simply let you choose your sugar level, this Taiwanese joint lets you fully craft your bubble tea from scratch by selecting your tea leaf base. Choose from 6 bases including Green Tea, Black Tea, Cassia Black Tea, High Mountain Pouchong Tea, Osmanthus Oolong Tea, and Dong Ding Oolong Tea.

You can also opt for a milk add-on or fruity flavours with a green lemon, passion fruit, or mango base – these come on top of your chosen tea bases. As usual, there’s an array of toppings like tapioca pearls, konjac jelly, coconut jelly, and grass jelly, with prices starting from $0.50 per topping.

11. TXA Pintxo Bar – Singapore’s first pincho bar

The difference between tapas and pinchos is slight – one easy way to tell? The latter is typically served bite-sized with a bread base, and often with a toothpick speared through. TXA Pintxo Bar is Singapore’s first bar where you can order up an array of traditional Basque Country pinchos.

If ordering from the menu, try pinchos like bread-based Pintxo De Albondigas ($5.90) which spears through a stuffed meatball covered in tomato sauce. Else, you can order at the counter too to try their daily specials. You’ll be surprised how easily you can fill up with these – 6 to 7 pinchos will make for a satisfying dinner.

12. Afuri – yuzu ramen from Tokyo

We’ve had everything from tonkotsu ramen to tsukemen ramen, but the one ramen we’re now gushing over? Yuzu ramen from Afuri Ramen, one of the more popular ramen joints in Tokyo. Each bowl includes a splash of yuzu that’s sure to delight our tastebuds in all its zesty glory.

Like with most other ramen joints, you can choose your own base – opt for the Yuzu Ramen with bases like shio (salt), shoyu (soya sauce), or ratan (chilli). There’s also a tsukemen alternative where you can dip the noodles into a flavourful yuzu broth. But if you’re venturing beyond yuzu, then they also serve up Tonkotsu Tan Tan Ramen  and Spicy Tsukemen.

13. La Dame de Pic – French fine-dining at Raffles Hotel

With 3 Michelin stars in her portfolio, chef Anne-Sophie Pic is a celebrity chef to be reckoned with. Singapore’s La Dame de Pic is her first foray into Asia, with the 2 other outlets based in Paris and London. This fine-dining restaurant is one to save for special occasions – a 3-course lunch starts at $128 and a 5-course dinner at $198.

But of course, it’s money well-spent since each course shows off dishes like her signature Berlingots, pyramid-shaped pasta stuffed with French fondue. Even after several courses, you’ll be licking every last bit of the dessert: Gariguette Strawberry and Rosat Geranium, a delicate plate of berry confit and geranium sorbet.

14. Gochi – 6 Japanese eateries in CBD

Come lunch, the CBD’s entirely packed with hungry office workers – all hunting down an affordable but tasty meal. Thankfully, GOCHI has recently opened smack-bang in the middle at Capital Square with 6 different Japanese concepts. From sushi conveyor-belt Chokiro to unagi restaurant Unaemon, it’s a space where you can try a variety of Japanese food.

There’s also an Italian-Japanese fusion joint, a frozen fruit bar, and a soup curry bistro. You can also stock up on fine chocolates and cheesecakes with chocolatier Morozoff.

15. Noka – rooftop farm in Funan

When Funan reopened, an entire slew of exciting restaurants opened their doors too. Take Noka for instance, Singapore’s first urban rooftop farm where they grow all sorts of veggies from oyster mushrooms to butterfly pea flowers. It’s also the sister restaurant to Open Farm Community, it shares a similar farm-to-table concept.

The peaceful ambience sets this apart as an ideal venue for a business lunch – there’s even a lunch set menu ($45) that offers a salad, choice between Bara Chirashi (cubed sashimi rice bowl) or Sushi Moriwase (selection of sushi), and a dessert.

16. Tapasta Bar – tapas & pasta at Telok Ayer

Tapasta Bar in Telok Ayer certainly knows its crowd: it has an interesting concept with grain bowls by day and tapas by night. You’ll get to customise your own bowl for a healthy lunch. Choose a base from the likes of Creamy Fusilli, Tomato Cream Penne, and Raisin Couscous and proteins like Roasted Chicken Thigh, Chicken Meatballs, and Salmon.

Prices start from $13 for a regular bowl.

As for the tapas menu, look forward to plates like Chicken Bratwurst ($10.50) and Truffle Shoestring Fries ($9) – all savoury bites to share among a group of friends.

17. Godmama – fusion Peranakan

While Peranakan cuisine is already a fusion between Chinese and Malay cuisine, Godmama takes it one step further. This restaurant serves up all the usual Perankan suspects like Ayam Buah Keluak ($15.90) and Beef Rendang ($14.90) but also offers a novel brunch menu.

Here’s where you’ll be digging into unique recipes like Godmama’s Otak Otak Benedict ($19.90) which comes with an otak fish mousse or Babi Assam Baked Eggs ($16.90). Try their Perankan-influenced cocktails too – the Emperor of Melaka ($22) is a rum-based drink with a subtle hint of gula melaka.

18. Sikdang – Korean hotpot in Tanjong Pagar

There’s no shortage of Korean restaurants in Tanjong Pagar, with Sikdang as another Korean hotpot joint to add to our must-try list. The Army Stew ($29) is a constant crowd favourite and this particular rendition doesn’t disappoint – it comes loaded with ham, sausages, and noodles.

Another filling order is the Dak-Galbi (stir-fry, from $24), where you can choose from meats like pork belly, beef, and squid. This comes with free-flow carbs like noodles and rice cakes and there’s even a complimentary option at the end to mix leftover sauces with rice, seaweed, and beansprouts.

Like most Korean hotpot restaurants, there’s a decent choice of drinks with a bottle of Hite priced at $12 and Soju from $15.

19. Kausmo – sustainable eatery in Orchard Road

Les Amis has several fine-dining restaurants that serve up quality food – their newest venture Kausmo in Shaw Centre is no different. They offer a 6-course menu ($75) that puts thoughtful dining at the forefront. All dishes are flavourful but repurpose oddly-shaped produce over-ripened vegetables or asymmetrical fruit.

While mostly dishing out Western cuisine, there’s an obvious Asian influence with the menu including Confit Kampong Chicken and Seabass Belly. You can also opt to pair your food with a Kombucha tasting for an additional $20.

20. Mpire 77 Amoy Street – Western fusion in the CBD

For after-work grub and drinks, Mpire 77 Amoy Street is a solid choice – it’s a restaurant that serves up Western classics like Grilled Pork Belly ($22) and Beef Cheek Burgundy ($28). There’s also a range of pasta dishes to try – we’re eyeing the Beef Ragu ($22) for a hearty beef cheek stew mixed with carrots and peas.

They do an affordable set lunch for $20 too – you’ll get the Soup of The Day, a choice of pasta or burger, and tea or coffee. Choose from the likes of Garlic Shrimp Linguini or a Slow Roasted Pulled Pork Burger.
