There’s A New Cafe In Chinatown With Private Rooms From $8/Pax, Consoles & Over 100 Board Games

Pixels and Pieces board game cafe in Chinatown

When it comes to organising game nights, there always seems to be a reason why they don’t end up happening in the first place. From far-flung friends who reside on the other side of the island to not wanting to rouse slumbering parents from the ensuing ruckus, it looks like having your fun away from your domicile’s the way to go, especially if you don’t stay alone.

Should you be looking for a space to host your hijinks, look no further than Pixels and Pieces. It’s a new game cafe in Chinatown, and they’re well-equipped to take on any group hangout you throw their way. Here’s all you need to know before booking a session with them.

How to get to Pixels and Pieces?

Getting to Pixels and Pieces is easy; simply take the train on the Downtown or the North East Lines and alight at Chinatown MRT station. Exit the station from Exit F, and the cafe is literally right across the street.

There’s also a bus stop right outside the cafe, Opp Chinatown Stn (stop ID 05131). Buses that stop here include bus no. 51 from Hougang, 63 from Eunos, 174 from Boon Lay, and 851 from Yishun to name a few.  If you’re driving or riding there, you can park your vehicle at the nearby muliti-storey car park at Hong Lim Complex; rates start from $1.20/30 minutes.

What to expect at Pixels and Pieces?

Housed within a quaint shophouse along Upper Cross Street, Pixels and Pieces have a total of 6 private rooms which you can book to host gatherings of all sorts, whether you’ve got intense rounds of Mario Party or mellow sessions of Settlers of Catan on the agenda.

Firstly, if you don’t mind gaming out in the open and are not shy about getting loud, go for their Communal Area (from $6 pax). It’s the cheapest option they’ve got, and gives you unfettered access to all their gaming paraphernalia, which includes a wide range of console games on the PS5 and Nintendo Switch, as well as over 100 board game titles.

Do note that this shared area is occupied on a first-come-first-served basis, but nothing’s stopping you from asking if your gang can mingle with another to form an impromptu party for even more chaos.

Next up, from $8/pax, they’ve got private rooms at your disposal too. Each of them have their own themes and are decorated a little differently, but they all essentially function the same – 4 walls to separate you and the outside world so everyone can get as rowdy as they’d like.
