We’ve got the sneakers and running gear ready – all that’s lacking? The motivation to start running. “I’ll go for a run…tomorrow” is a common sentiment echoed by many, especially from those of us comfortable in our couch potato skins.

But this year’s Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon is a sure-fire way to get you moving.

Whether you’re an avid marathoner or just heading down to support a friend, it doesn’t matter: this annual marathon is Singapore’s marquee race and this year, you can look forward to an exciting lineup of live performances, entertainment acts and family lawn games. It’s also held in the evening for the very first time this year so you can run in style with sweeping waterfront views and a cool night breeze!

P.S. There are also 5KM and 10KM routes for those who have yet to start training!

Race through the Marina waterfront in the evening

For the very first time, the Marathon’s flag-off time will be shifted to 6PM so you can enjoy cooler temperatures when running. No more sweltering afternoon sun, but instead, enjoy a cool night breeze that’ll gently ruffle through your hair.

The route takes you through the Marina waterfront, where you’ll be taking in panoramic sights of MBS, the Singapore Flyer, and Gardens by the Bay. You’ll also be making your way past landmarks like the National Gallery Singapore, Lau Pa Sat, and Esplanade.

Enjoy live performances and local delights

We’re often plugged in when running – rhythmic beats help fuel us on – but this Marathon takes things to a whole new level with live entertainment every step of the way. It’s not just about getting to the finish line – it’s also about enjoying the 3 major spectator zones set up at Empress Lawn, The Float @ Marina Bay and The Promontory, all of which will be open from 5:30PM to 10:30PM for the public. The Float will have extended hours till 12:30AM.

Even if you’re not participating in the race, head on down to cheer on and support the marathoners – there’ll be a mix of modern and traditional activities to try, from games such as Giant Jenga, capteh, and a 3-legged race. There’ll even be glitter tattoos and a human claw machine for the young ones! You can also get into the groove of a healthy lifestyle with Piloxing and Zumba sessions available at the multiple spectator zones.

Sway along to bands like alt pop band Subsonic Eye or R&B group Astronauts. There’ll also be DJs mixing up live music on the scene including Daryl Knows (Darker Than Wax) and DJ Stephan Day

When peckish, there are 22 F&B vendors on the festival grounds – Dumpling Darlings and Kinara are what we have on our must-try list.

Even if you’re not a regular runner, you’re one step closer when signing up for the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 2019. They also offer shorter routes like the 5KM or 10KM run – be sure to jio some friends for some friendly competition and moral support. The Toyota Ekiden is also a good choice for those who enjoy teamwork: it’s a team relay race so you can split the distance of 42.195KM across 5 people.

Participants will also receive a race pack that includes a race singlet, phone card case, and a cold towel, and after completing the Marathon, will score a Finisher medal.

When heading down, make sure to avoid road closures that’ll be happening in areas like Marina Centre, the CBD, and Bayfront. While you can simply take the MRT down, train services will not be available in the wee hours. For $7, runners can take a shuttle service which will be operating between Start/Finish venues and across 10 routes from 37 locations – available on Saturday night only.
