The wait for the highly anticipated RTS Link between Singapore and JB is almost over, with the train line expected to launch by the end of 2026. And because Singaporeans’ favourite pastime is crossing the Causeway to shop, new shopping centres are already under construction across the popular district to meet the increase in visitors. So if you’re looking for something new to do in JB, keep an eye out for these new JB malls opening from 2026.

Many of these malls are concentrated in growing hubs like Iskandar Puteri and the new Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) – a joint venture between the 2 governments to maximise cross-border developments.

Families looking for a quick stop before heading to LEGOLAND Malaysia can pop by Horizon Mall, which is only a 10-minute drive away from the theme park. It’s an upcoming open-air mall in the new Horizon Hills township in Iskandar Puteri.
The mall is tucked beside the bougie Horizon Hills Golf & Country Club and located in the heart of the township. Stop by to grab a bite at Padi House – a Malaysian-Western fusion restaurant – or treat yourself to milk tea from Chagee or Cha Tra Mue.
Horizon Mall is expected to open in May 2026.

SKS City Mall JBCC is an upcoming mall located beneath the Sheraton Johor Bahru hotel, and only a 4-minute drive away from the JB checkpoint. It will span a whopping 280,000sqft, with 4.5 floors of retail shops to explore. Some of the stores you’ll get to check out include KKV, a MINISO-style merch store, and Jungle Gym, an indoor playground.
Though no exact opening date has been announced, SKS City Mall is expected to open by the end of 2026.
Coronation Square is an RM5 billion development along Jalan Gereja, jointly developed by CapitaLand Investment Limited and Coronade Properties. It’s set to become a buzzing hub in the centre of the JS-SEZ – a highlight to look forward to is a 250-acre site, which will include the Ascott Coronation Square Johor Bahru hotel and Coronation Square Mall.
Getting to the mall will be a breeze – it’s within walking distance from the Bukit Chagar RTS station and the JB Sentral Immigration Complex, with covered walkways connecting the key spots.
Construction of the mall is slated to begin in 2026, and it’s expected to be completed by 2029.

OBS Mall is a part of the larger One Bukit Senyum project between Astaka Holdings Limited and CapitaLand Investment Limited. The mixed-use development will also include Arden @ One Bukit Senyum – an RM800 million residential building – and a 5-star hotel.
At the time of writing, details on what to expect at OBS Mall have yet to be released. Construction will start sometime in 2026 and is expected to be completed by 2030.

As a part of the RTS Link network, Malaysia’s Mass Rapid Transit Corporation and Sunway Group are developing the Bukit Chagar Integrated Development, which will greet commuters once they alight at the Bukit Chagar RTS station.
The RM2.6 billion development will consist of a mall with 4 towers above it. Specific details on the available facilities are yet to be revealed, but notable ones are a tram-bus network connected to other cities and a multi-storey carpark that can accommodate more than 1,000 cars and motorcycles respectively.
Construction of the Bukit Chagar Integrated Development is expected to be fully completed by 2033.

Frequent JB-goers are probably all familiar with Johor Bahru City Square (JBCS) – the mall that’s connected to the JB checkpoint. It’s usually the first thing that greets us upon arrival, and it’s where many of us start and end our day. So you’d be pleased to know that JBCS is currently undergoing upgrades, which will be done in phases over the next couple of years.

The mall will be expanded to accommodate over 300 retail and F&B shops. Different stores will also be categorised and situated on designated floors to make the shopping experience more seamless and fuss-free.
Some of the new facilities to look forward to are the 15,000sqft Kids Adventure Park and a Health & Wellness Hub. These upgrades are expected to be completed by the end of Q4 2027.
Shopping in JB has always been a favourite amongst Singaporeans. With the RTS Link slated to open by the end of 2026, trips across the border are going to be quicker, and new JB malls only add to the appeal. Here’s to more shopping sprees in JB over the next few years.
