Sure, there are tons of useful travel guides out there on how to get to JB, but what about getting around once you’re there? Since there aren’t many guides covering that, we’ve put together this JB public transport guide that’ll get you navigating the city like a pro in no time.
The current exchange rate is RM1 = ~S$0.29 as of 17th April 2025.

At the time of writing, JB doesn’t have a metro network, apart from the near-completed JB-SG RTS Link. While there have been rumours of a light rail transit (LRT) or tram-bus network being added to the mix, that’ll still take some time to materialise.
Currently, JB’s public transport network is made up only of buses that connect the city centre to destinations like shopping malls and other attractions. You can hop on these buses from either the JB Sentral Bus Terminal or Larkin Bus Terminal.
While it’s much more affordable than taking Grab, you trade in your dollar savings for longer travel times. We think it’s worth the trade, since the money saved means you get to splurge more at these international chains in JB that you won’t find in Singapore.

The main bus operator in JB is myBAS Johor Bahru, run by Causeway Link. It was introduced to gradually rejuvenate the local bus infrastructure, replacing routes from older companies such as Bas Iskandar Malaysia, and currently operates 19 different routes.
It’s also the one we’d recommend the most, since it takes the planning out of your hands with its user-friendly LUGO app, which we will explain further as we go along.
The buses are split into 2 main types:
As for the travel times, they’re generally quite manageable, with the longest route, the T10, clocking in at 84 minutes before factoring in traffic conditions.
For ease of reference, here are some of the most popular bus routes for Singaporeans and visitors to JB. You can read up all about these routes in even further detail on the Causeway Link website.

The T10 route takes you to areas like Larkin and Ulu Tiram. It ends at Kota Tinggi Bus Terminal, from which you can continue on to other parts of Malaysia, such as Terrengganu. Before that, it passes by AEON Tebrau, widely thought of as one of the best shopping malls in JB.
Bus T11 is a good way to get directly to Taman Mount Austin, a popular getaway for Singaporeans. It’s not hard to see why, considering the area is a treasure trove of fun activities, from karaoke studios like Loud Speaker Family Karaoke to adventure theme parks like Austin Heights Water & Adventure Park.
For places that are more laidback, there are other lower-profile malls along the way too, like Plaza Pelangi and TD Point.
The best way to reach cities like Kuala Lumpur, Malacca, Penang, or Ipoh while still having a quick pit stop is via the Larkin Bus Terminal. You can do just that with the T13 bus, which will get you there in just 20 minutes. While waiting for your next bus, chill out at the air-conditioned waiting lounge, or fuel up for the long trip ahead at McDonald’s.

Ever since it opened, Toppen Shopping Centre has been a fave among us Singaporeans, which isn’t surprising since it houses 300 shops and is close by to AEON Tebrau. The cherry on this cake is the huge IKEA right beside – the perfect place to stretch your Ringgit even further after saving on the T10 trip.
In the event that you ever feel peckish mid-journey, drop off at the Taman Sentosa stop, a fan-favourite zi char haven in JB that can only leave you with a happy belly.

Crossing the Causeway for a cheap supermarket run can be made even cheaper with the T20, which goes to Mercato Plaza Pelangi, one of the best supermarkets in JB. Have your pick of atas groceries, similar to goods you can find at Cold Storage or FairPrice Finest, but for a fraction of the price.
Some malls are so huge that you could spend an entire day inside and only get through half the shops. That description couldn’t be more apt for The Mall, Mid-Valley Southkey, which spans over 2.5 million square feet of retail space. The fact that it only takes around 10 minutes to reach via the T21 from JB Sentral means you can spend that much more time exploring the mega mall.
If a day isn’t enough, check yourself into St. Giles Southkey Johor Bahru (from RM568/night) – a hotel directly attached to the mall – before returning for more shopping the next day.
Catch the T22 to a well-known breakfast spot in JB – Restoran Kacang Pool Haji. To be fair, it can even be considered a supper spot too, since they open until 12am. As for the fare, they serve hearty local dishes like Kacang Pool Daging or Lontong Basah from just RM7.
Image credit: Renaissance Johor Bahru Hotel
From an overnighter’s POV, the route passes by the Renaissance Johor Bahru Hotel – a 5-star hotel with million-dollar views of the Straits of Johor, where room rates start from RM466/night.
A ride on the T30 bus will lead you to Paradigm Mall, where you can cool off from the heat at Blue Ice Skating Rink, the first and only ice skating rink in JB. With over 1.3 million square feet of mall space, there’s definitely no shortage of food, shopping, and activities for you and your fam.
For something a little more naturesque, Beletime Danga Bay is a mall that features a 400m-long, man-made beach with a beach bar. Plus, it’s right beside Danga Bay too, so you can hop on over to real beaches and proper waterfront activities.
The T32 is a solid all-rounder, which brings you to both Angsana and Paradigm Mall, plus the M Suites and Tune Hotel – one of the best JB hotels for its price, with rates starting from S$29/night. If you have some time to kill before checking in, you can stop by Paradigm Mall and catch a movie at Golden Screen Cinemas too. Just so you know, movie tickets here are as low as RM15, with premier seats going from just RM18.
Theme park lovers can hop on the T44 to reach LEGOLAND Malaysia, where more than 80 rides across 8 themed areas await. This route will bring you to both shops and accommodation, with AEON Bukit Indah and Ramada Hotel nearby.
For a more scenic time in JB, you’ll have to wait till you get to Puteri Harbour, a bougie seafront park with atas restaurants, affordable hotels, sporting activities, and even a ferry terminal with rides to Indonesia.
While not a T bus, the F100 deserves a spot in this list mainly because of its final destination, KSL City Mall, home to over 500 shops across its 7 floors. Should its range of shops and services tempt you to do Everything Everywhere All at Once, don’t worry. There’s both KSL Hotel & Resort, and KSL Hot Spring Resort for you to recharge at before heading back for more rounds of shopping.
To round off the trip, swing by Avery-Day, a Santorini-themed convenience store that sells a wide range of Japanese goods, from Nonde Oishii Vanilla Soft to unique ice cream bars.
The first non-myBAS bus on this list, the JPO1 is a popular pick with Singaporeans who want to travel to Johor Premium Outlets from JB Sentral. Alternatively, you can also take the JPO2 and JPO3 buses directly from Singapore for the same price. The money you save from taking the bus here can add to the funds for a crazy shopping spree at the outlet mall.
Just like our SimplyGO EZ-Link cards, JB has their own ManjaLink card which you can use to pay for your bus trips. Buy a card for $14 on Shopee and get 50% off your first ride. There’s also a bunch of other cool perks, which you can find out more about on the ManjaLink website.
Another option is to get them at any of these 5 locations:
If you prefer to use your phone, download the LUGO app on the App Store or on Google Play to scan and pay via ManjaPay. With the app, you can also access bus information and the estimated times of arrival.

Another option is to directly tap on and off with your Visa debit or credit card. Unfortunately, Mastercard is not accepted at this point, though that’s expected to change soon.
If you’re old-school, the buses still accept cash payments, just be sure to have exact Ringgit on hand, as change isn’t given.
While not for travelling within JB per se, the Causeway Link Express Premium lets you ride in luxury from KSL City to KL for only RM69.90. That’s a steal considering it drops passengers off at 3 destinations in KL: Berjaya Times Square, NU Sentral, and Bukit Bintang.
Book a ticket for this wallet-friendly ride to KL on the Causeway Link website.
The next time Grab’s peak hour algorithm makes you do a double-take while you’re in JB, come back to this comprehensive guide to find exactly which buses to hop on and reach your destination.
