As a frequent traveller, one of my favourite parts of a long-haul flight is getting the menu card before take off to decide what to eat at meal times. Then it’s a gleeful wait for the serving trolleys to be rolled down the aisles before being asked “chicken or beef?” by kebaya-clad stewardesses.
Alas, while VTLs are open, in-flight dining has been reduced to pre-packaged meals. But there’s one place that serves up onboard meals pre-pandemic style – Lobster Air in Bugis:

In-flight dining experience with former cabin crew
Opened in January last year by a group of cabin crew affected by the pandemic, Lobster Air is an aeroplane-themed restaurant that brings in-flight dining to the ground.

Hoping to keep things true to the travelling experience, the restaurant has been decorated as such to capture the thrill of flying first or business class.

The walls have been plastered with the iconic oval windows of aeroplanes, showcasing clear blue skies.

Adding more authenticity are the waiters, who are former cabin crew themselves. Decked in Lobster Air’s uniform, they’ll provide that hospitable touch we’ve come to expect when flying. They’ll even hand out steaming hot towels before meal service, so you can freshen up before dining.

First or Business Class dining with lobster on the menu
On board Lobster Air’s dining experience, you’ll get your choice between First or Business Class menus for lunch and dinner. Each one comes with a soup, salad, dessert and beverage, although you can top up for more premium appetisers like oysters and foie gras.
The main difference between First and Business Class menus are the inclusion of garlic bread baguettes and signature brownies for the First Class menu.

As for the main course, it’s either chicken pasta (Lunch: from $46; Dinner: from $62) or lobster with aglio olio or creamy linguine (Lunch: from $68; Dinner: from $88).
Staff discounts for all airline personnel
It’s no secret that cabin crew get perks like free entry into clubs or discounted rates at gyms. But at Lobster Air, all airline personnel can get a slash on menu prices. It doesn’t matter which department you work at or even which airline. As long as you’re able to present your staff ID at the restaurant, you’ll get to enjoy exclusive rates.
From Mondays – Thursdays, get 50% off the second purchase of a First or Business Class menu. Then from Sundays to Thursdays, you can get 20% off any bottle of alcohol on top of other promotions.
Dine first or business class at Lobster Air
Getting to sit in First or Business class is a luxury most of us can only dream of. But at Lobster Air, here’s where you can at least experience the in-flight meals without the big ticket price tag.
There’s no need to prepare your passport or pre-travel documents like vaccination certificates either. Just head down with an empty stomach and have a pleasant journey.
Getting there:
By car: City Gate Mall has a carpark, but charges vary depending on time and day.
By MRT: The nearest MRT station is Nicoll Highway on the Circle Line. Upon exiting, take the overhead pass from St John Singapore (HQ) that will lead you straight to the mall.
By bus: Buses 100, 961 and 980 stop right outside City Gate Mall.
