K-drama scenes to recreate in Singapore

You promise yourself just one more episode. But the next thing you know, it’s 4AM in the morning and you’ve binge-watched an entire TV series. Creative storylines, intense plot twists, swoon-worthy romance, and not forgetting the ever good-looking leads and gorgeous backdrops – these are just some of the things that make K-drama scenes so addictive.

Some die-hard fans even travel all the way to shoot locations in Korea just to recreate their favourite K-drama scenes. While any form of overseas travel is out of the question for now, we found eight places in Singapore where you can recreate iconic K-drama scenes together with your oppa.

1. Crash Landing On You – Punggol Lake

Crash Landing On You - reunionImage credit: TvN

Crash Landing On You hooked us with its storyline – a North Korean elite officer meets a rich South Korean heiress over the DMZ and falls in love. Their forbidden romance got us on the edge of our couch episode after episode, wondering whether they’ll end up together. Thankfully, the OTP eventually reunited and lived together in Switzerland by the final credits rolled.

Recreate this happy ending at the Punggol Lake. It’s a little out of the way, but the dreamy setting that you’ll be surrounded by is worth the journey. All you need to complete this shot is a small bouquet of flowers.

Created by the same writer as Goblin and Descendants of the Sun, The King: Eternal Monarch showcased an equally vivid storyline and aesthetic cinematography. One of the K-drama scenes that’s well-loved by fans is the one at Hallim Library, which portrayed the poignant emotions between the two leads.

For a similar background of shelves and chairs as in the scene, head to the 9th floor of the National Library. Apart from the colours, the most important part of the still is the symmetry, so do use the bookshelves in the background to help frame your shot.

3. It’s Okay To Not Be Okay – Japanese Cemetery Park

It’s Okay To Not Be Okay topped Netflix most-watched rankings thanks to its on-point portrayal on mental health topics. But the chemistry between the main leads was off the charts too. Throwback to the first episode where the pair meets – a scene laden with noticeable tension as Gang-tae tells Mun-yeong off for smoking at the garden of the psychiatric ward he works at.

4. Goblin – East Coast Park

Goblin, as I remember, was one of the most beautiful yet heartbreaking dramas of 2016. Apart from the entertaining bromance between goblin and the grim reaper, the main love story between Gong Yoo and Kim Go-eun was also adorable to watch.

But the cinematography was also a huge draw, and the Quebec scenes shot during fall were especially a visual treat for the eyes.

While we don’t have autumn in Singapore, you’ll still be able to spot fallen leaves at East Coast Park – especially during the monsoon season. At the sprawl of green next to Coffee Bean and Tea Leaves, you’ll find a similar backdrop to the scene, including three trees, a lamp post and a pavement just like in the show.

Koreaboos would likely recall a rooftop scene in almost every K-drama. The same goes for the most-recently buzzed-about Start-Up, where Nam Do-San desperately tries to explain himself and make up to Dal-mi after ruining their business opportunity with Morning Star. That then led to an unexpected, passionate kiss scene that fans were all holding their breath for.
