When it comes to movie snacks, the pool of options we have at our disposal is pretty diverse. Salty or sweet, you absolutely can’t go wrong with good ol’ popcorn, while the nachos plus hot dog combo does wonders for those heading into the movie halls on an empty stomach.
Well, a certain establishment in Kuala Lumpur’s looking to level-up their cinema food game, by pairing their films with hotpot. Yes, you read that right; DADI Cinema Pavilion KL will soon be offering the option to buy tickets to their hotpot cinema. Here’s all you need to know about their bizarre attempt to spice up movie nights.

What is DADI Cinema?

DADI Cinema is a chain of cinemas based in Malaysia, and they currently operate in 2 locations, at DaMen Mall in Selangor and the Pavilion Kuala Lumpur in KL. As we’ve seen from the JB cinemas, you can catch the latest blockbusters at DADI Cinemas for pretty affordable rates. Tickets cost around RM25, which is around 50% cheaper than what you’d pay in Singapore.

Their movie halls are nothing to be scoffed at either. Apart from their standard halls, they’ve also got 3 other kinds to choose from, such as the ethereal Star Max hall which comes complete with a dreamy star-filled ceiling.
The Lil Star hall also plays audio at lower levels to avoid overstimulating its younger audience.

An option that movie-goers with little ones in tow can go for is their Lil Star hall. The entire fam gets to lounge on adorable animal-themed seats, but when the children get restless they can head to the front of the hall to play on the mini slides and explore the toys strewn around. Parents needn’t worry, as this hall will have brighter lighting so they can keep track of their kids’ whereabouts.

Thankfully, it seems like you’ll get a small table lamp to go with your meals so you won’t accidentally chomp down on undercooked strips of meat.

Now that you’re all up to speed on DADI Cinema’s offerings, here’s one more to add to their repertoire. Details aren’t firmed up yet, but they’re planning on pushing out what they dub a “hotpot cinema” experience. That’s right, you’ll be able to indulge in your very own hotpot feast from the comfort of your movie seat.
Unsurprisingly, this movie and hotpot pairing originated in Chengdu, China, but residents of KL will get to enjoy it pretty soon too. From what we’ve gathered, the DADI Cinema’s hotpot movie experience will be priced at RM165/pax, and the bubbling meals will be provided by a hotpot chain called Shu Da Xia Hot Pot.

Foodies who frequent Malaysia might find this chain familiar, as they’ve got many outlets peppered all over the country, in locations like JB, Klang Valley, and Sarawak. Of course, the variety of ingredients you can plop into your broths in DADI Cinema won’t be as diverse as the selection at restaurants, but we’ll take what we can get if it saves us a post-movie trip to Haidilao.
Speaking of which, you’ve got 3 soup bases to choose from for your hotpot cinema experience, such as Collagen Chicken Soup, Traditional Sichuan Mala Soup (Butter Based), and Tomato Soup. You’ll also receive a bento box filled with 9 different ingredients like Shrimp Paste, Hero Chicken Slices, Crab Sticks, Beancurd Rolls, and Cantonese Egg Noodles to dunk into your pots.

The recent media event at DADI Cinema’s Pavilion Kuala Lumpur outlet to showcase their hotpot cinema experience was hosted in the premises’ STAR + hall. It features premium leatherette recliners, and a private lounge stocked with unlimited refills of popcorn and drinks. Now, throw in a novel hotpot meal on top of that and you’ve got a movie date that’s difficult to top.

We’re still unsure if the DADI Cinema’s hotpot movie experience will be brought over to their DaMen Mall outlet, or when the public will be able to book a seat to enjoy this movie plus hotpot combo. One thing’s for sure; we on the other side of the causeway will be waiting with keen anticipation, with our Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) on standby, to get a taste of it ourselves in Malaysia.
