Best air fryers in Singapore

You might think heaps of unhealthy oil is required to achieve crispy munchies like fries and chicken wings. But with an air fryer, we can easily recreate that crispy, golden-brown layer we love so much with just a few drops of oil and bursts of hot air.

In addition to being a healthier alternative to frying, this nifty gadget is also an all-in-one tool that allows us to whip up everything from desserts to grilled salmon. So if you’re wondering which model to get, look no further as we’ve sussed out eleven of the best air fryers in Singapore.

P.S. There’s a hidden promo code for Amazon Singapore in this article!

Types of air fryers

There are 2 main types of air fryers: the standard basket air fryer, or an air fryer oven. Here are the main differences between them:

Standard basket air fryer Air fryer oven
Comes with single or dual baskets. Usually has multiple trays to cook multiple ingredients at once in large quantities.
Smaller, compact size, ideal for limited counter space. Takes up more counter space than a standard basket air fryer.
Heats and cooks food faster than an air fryer oven. Heats and cooks food slower.

What are the benefits of using an air fryer?

If you enjoy deep-fried foods but are concerned about their nutritional value, then air frying would be a healthier option. It uses little to no oil to achieve a similar crispy and crunchy texture. This can significantly reduce the number of calories you’re consuming just by air frying instead of deep frying your food.

It’s also much safer to handle an air fryer as compared to a deep fryer, since there’s no hot oil to deal with. Air fryers usually have compartments that click into place, or oven doors that’ll protect young ones from dipping their fingers into hot oil.

What cannot be cooked in an air fryer?

While there are plenty of meals you can whip up in an air fryer, there are some food items that are best to avoid cooking in your machine. These include:

  • Anything with a wet batter: Unfortunately, wet batters aren’t going to stick well to foods that would traditionally be deep fried. Instead, you can try using breadcrumbs to achieve a similar crunch for foods like fish and chicken if using the air fryer.
  • Leafy greens: Vegetables such as broccoli and cauliflower can turn quite crunchy and flavourful in an air fryer. However, refrain from air frying leafy greens as the cooking times for leaves and stems differ greatly. You might end up with burnt leaves and undercooked stems in an air fryer.
  • Rice: Air fryers may not have enough power to boil water to cook raw rice. There may also be no equal distribution of power and you’ll likely be left with pockets of mushy as well as undercooked rice. Leave the rice cooking to these best rice cookers in Singapore.

How should I clean my air fryer?

Most basket inserts or tray racks are typically dishwasher-friendly, so you can easily plop them into a dishwasher if you have one. Otherwise, you can just manually clean them with dishwashing detergent and water as you would when cleaning the dishes. Just take note to avoid using any abrasive scrubs or sponges so that you don’t strip the natural non-stick coating of the air fryer. If it’s especially grimy, leave it to soak for a longer period.

After removing the basket, make sure to clean the interior of the chamber and wipe down any residue with a damp paper towel. The same should be done with the heating element once it cools down completely. Leave it to dry before assembling.

Is it safe to use aluminium foil in my air fryer?

A general rule of thumb is that if it can go in your oven, it can go in your air fryer, so yes, it’s perfectly fine to use aluminium foil or even parchment paper in your air fryer. But remember to keep these factors in mind: don’t let the foil touch the heating element, ensure the foil is properly weighted down so that it doesn’t fly or move about, and avoid pre-heating the oven with an aluminium foil-lined basket or tray.

An alternative to aluminium foil is to use air fryer liners. These are safe to use in the air fryer and can even prevent spills and messes in your air fryer basket. It also makes cleaning up much easier, since you can toss the liner once you’re done with it.
