What’s the difference between a pickleball court & a tennis court?
At first glance, a pickleball court might look like a mini tennis court – and you’re not wrong. A standard pickleball court is about a quarter the size of a tennis court, measuring 6.1m wide and 13.4m long. The net is also slightly lower, at 0.86m in the centre compared to tennis’s 0.91m.
The gear is a little different too. Instead of stringed racquets, pickleball players use solid paddles made from materials like wood, composite, or graphite. These paddles are smaller than tennis racquets but larger than ping pong paddles, giving you more control over your shots.
Even the ball is unique – it’s a lightweight, perforated plastic ball. Compared to a tennis ball, it travels more slowly and bounces lower, which changes the pace and dynamics of the game. Combined with the smaller court size and no-volley “kitchen” zone, these differences make pickleball a game of quick reflexes, smart placement, and plenty of finesse.
You can get a pickleball paddle and ball set from Amazon.
What to know before booking pickleball courts in Singapore

Pickleball courts in Singapore can be found at sports halls, community centres, and even schools. Booking a court is usually done online via platforms like ActiveSG.
A few things to note before you book:
- Court type: Some venues convert badminton or tennis courts into pickleball courts, so line markings may vary.
- Equipment: Most places don’t provide paddles or balls, so BYO pickleball equipment or rent from the venue if they offer that option.
- Peak hours: Courts tend to get snapped up quickly on weekday evenings and weekends, so book in advance to secure your slot.

– Where to play pickleball in Singapore for free –
This is a list of all the free-to-use public pickleball courts in Singapore for when you just wanna have a casual game with your friends. These courts are usually shared with badminton players, so you’ll need to set up the pickleball net yourself – just be sure to pack 1 along with your paddles and balls.
Since they’re public courts, it’s common for other players to pop by and join in or take turns playing. It’s a great way to befriend fellow pickleball players and jio each other for future games. If the court is busy, simply rotate with other groups to keep things fair. Do also be mindful of noise levels, especially when playing near residential areas.
