Mr. Nguyễn Xuân Phúc is elected Vietnam’s new president
Today, the National Assembly (NA) of Vietnam has officially elected the country’s incumbent Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc as the 13th president of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
President Nguyễn Xuân Phúc is preceded by Mr. Nguyễn Phú Trọng, who’s currently the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
Mr. Phạm Minh Chính has just been elected as the new Prime Minister of Vietnam.

On 2nd April 2021, the National Assembly in Hanoi approved a resolution to relieve Mr. Nguyễn Xuân Phúc from his post as Vietnam’s prime minister. The resolution has become effective with the election of the new Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính.

On the same day, former President Nguyễn Phú Trọng also left his position after another resolution was passed by the National Assembly.
During his swearing-in ceremony on April 5th, President Nguyễn Xuân Phúc vowed his allegiance to the nation, the people, and the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

The President’s biography

President Nguyễn Xuân Phúc was born on 20th July in 1954 into a military family in Quảng Nam Province.
Between 1966 and 1968, he joined the People’s Army of Vietnam before being transferred to Hanoi for advanced training and education.
In 1982, he officially became a member of the Vietnamese Communist Party. During the tenure of former Prime Minister Nguyễn Tấn Dũng from 2011 to 2016, he assumed the position of Deputy Prime Minister.

From 2016 until 5th April 2021, he served as Prime Minister of Vietnam, during which he has been credited with improving Vietnam’s diplomatic relations with neighboring countries and strengthening the country’s role on the regional stage.
Vietnam’s new president is elected
Mr. Nguyễn Xuân Phúc became the 13th Vietnamese president today, after a peaceful transfer of power from former President Nguyễn Phú Trọng.
We congratulate the President on his new appointment and wish him all the best with his future endeavors as Vietnam’s new head of state.
