Selling lottery tickets is a common profession in Saigon. However, it offers meager income and is often only practiced by people from disadvantaged backgrounds. And with Saigon being hit hard by a COVID-19 wave, many of these sellers have found themselves in need of supports from the community.

Despite all the hardship, however, one particular lottery ticket seller is still trying his best to provide for his puppy – his loyal companion who sticks with him through thick and thin.

Here’s how their special bond has melted netizens’ hearts.

Since earlier this month, a lottery ticket seller in Saigon has found himself the center of the online spotlight. Despite disabilities that prevented him from speaking and hearing, the rugged elderly man working hard on the streets to make ends meet. Pictures shared on several Facebook pages have touched netizens’ hearts.

At the same time, many people have also found their attention drawn to his constant companion: a cute little puppy, whom the man takes the utmost care of despite his financial difficulties.

Indeed, the man has gone out of his way to provide for his furkid, buying it toys, clothing, and a mattress to sleep on while he works.

After the mismatched duo’s story went viral on the Internet, dozens of people have been inclined to seek them out, both to play with the puppy and to offer help to its owner.

Last week, Trúc Phương Nguyễn Đỗ – a social media influencer in Saigon – posted on her Facebook page to share that she’d managed to raise a large sum of VND75,000,000 (~USD3,250) to donate to the lottery ticket seller.

However, the man only accepted a small fraction of the amount and expressed that he wanted to leave more for other people in need.

Inspirations for us to support disadvantaged folks

The humble lottery ticket seller might not be rich in wealth, but from the affectionate gestures he shows his puppy, and the way he cares for others, we can tell that he’s generous in compassion.
