‘The Voice’ is back
We watch The Voice for those moments of catharsis when the contestant singing his heart out breaks into a smile as his favourite judge spins her chair around as he hits that insanely high falsetto note. The Voice is about experiencing highs and lows along with the contestants.
If you’re one of those who religiously avoids social media every time Game of Thrones is aired, you’re in luck because this season of The Voice will be broadcast on Star World, five hours after the American telecast! That means you’ll get to watch it before anyone gets to spoil your day by putting it on YouTube.
The season premieres on 20 September at 1pm (with repeats at 6pm and 10pm), and here’s what you need to know.
Watch Alicia Keys and Miley Cyrus turn judge for the first time!
For the first time ever in The Voice’s history, there are 2 female coaches. In past seasons, every female coach (Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani and Shakira) was the lone rose among the thorns. With 2 females coaches in the house this time, it’s now a fair fight between the guys (Blake Shelton and Adam Levine) and the girls (Alicia Keys and Miley Cyrus).
The addition of Alicia Keys is plain genius. The singer-songwriter is a 15-time Grammy Award winner, having written hits such as ‘Girl on Fire’ and ‘If I Ain’t Got You’. As an all-rounded performer, she’s got an eye for spotting and grooming potential stars.
On the other hand, forget Miley Cyrus’ antics and flamboyant outfits. The girl’s musically-gifted and certainly brings new energy to the show. Seeing how she gave detailed advice to contestants when she was an advisor in Season 10, we think she’ll make a great coach.
The best bromance on TV is back
Yes, the bromance between Blake Shelton and Adam Levine has its own ship name – ‘Shevine’.
From their friendly banter to PDA, Shevine is the most entertaining duo since Joey and Chandler. Though the bros are fiercely competitive over getting the best contestants on their teams, they eventually kiss and make up.
This unlikely friendship between a country singer and a lead singer of a rock band has since ascended to BFF status. In fact, some fans watch the show just for the two!
All about the voice
If you’ve watched a few seasons of ‘The Voice’, you’d notice that there’s a distinct lack of delusional contestants, unlike that other reality singing competition with the blue logo. And that’s the result of the crew scouting all over the country, returning with only the best raw talents for blind auditions.
Having never met the contestants before the blind audition, there’s also a certain aura of mystery for the judges to have to navigate. The contestants aren’t judged based on their appearances, and viewers like us don’t waste a few minutes of our time watching someone sing off-key, then launch into a heated argument with the judges that they’re good at singing.
The Voice Season 11 will air on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 1pm, and have reruns at 6pm and 10 pm on the same day, from 20 September 2016.
