The FRIENDS Experience: The One in Singapore
Just ask any fan of cosy sitcoms for a recommendation that you can mindlessly switch on while doing the chores, and Friends will probably get a resounding endorsement. The iconic series of the 90s has left an indelible mark on not only millennials who’ve caught it in its heyday, but also the younger folks, thanks to the magic of HBO Max.
But if you’re due for yet another rewatch of the group’s humorous antics, don’t boot up that illegal streaming site just yet. Instead, head on over to The FRIENDS Experience: The One in Singapore. It’s a new exhibition themed after the show where diehard fans will have a field day reenacting their favourite scenes at its various interactive sets.
What to know about The FRIENDS Experience: The One in Singapore?

You can also opt to buy VIP (from $39) tickets to skip the lines and receive a complimentary tote bag. Finally, the Ultimate Package (from $45) rewards visitors with the same queue-skipping perk, along with an exclusive gift box and a 10% discount on official merch purchased at the exhibition.
What to expect at The FRIENDS Experience: The One in Singapore?

Although I’m a staunch believer that How I Met Your Mother is the better sitcom based on life in the Big Apple, The FRIENDS Experience: The One in Singapore might’ve just convinced me to give the series a shot. But if you’ve grown up alongside the second-best friend group in New York across the show’s 10 seasons, boy will you have a blast here.
From faithfully recreated sets like Chandler and Joey’s bachelor pad and the Central Perk coffeehouse to a merch shop where you can bring home your own bedtime penguin pal, here’s everything we saw on our visit.
Take a seat at the Friends opening theme song’s sofa, complete with a fountain
Our trip to 90’s Manhattan began with a quick introductory video showing a rundown of the series, played on a screen that has been accented with a familiar, garish yellow frame. Shortly, we stepped through Monica’s iconic purple apartment door, and were greeted with the orange couch and fountain from the show’s opening theme song.
By the way, you’ll also receive a photo ticket upon entry to the exhibition; there’ll be photo ops at select spots where a camera will be set up for pictures. You’ll be able to purchase these professionally-shot mementos right at the end of the experience. At sets without the fancy camera equipment, don’t be afraid to approach the staff to be your temporary photographer; they’ll even give you tips on the best poses to strike.

Back to our first interactive set, the orange couch is pretty much a 1-to-1 replica of the one from the “I’ll Be There For You” opening sequence that accompanies every episode. It’s quite wide, so even big groups won’t have any trouble fitting into the shot. Unfortunately, the fountain in the back isn’t filled with actual water, so you can’t quite splash around in it like the gang in the opening credits.
Learn about what goes on behind the scenes & recap your favourite episodes
The FRIENDS Experience: The One in Singapore is also packed with nuggets of behind-the-scenes information and cool production assets to nerd out over.

In between zones, we got to learn about the inspiration behind sets like the various apartments portrayed in the show; even minute set dressing details, such as artwork hung in the Central Perk set, had lore to them. We also caught a glimpse of an original copy of the script of The One Hundredth episode from season 5, signed by cast members.

There are also smaller sections that explore the 6 main characters’ personalities and friendship dynamics, as well as dedicated callbacks to specific episodes. These were especially helpful for folks who’ve not seen the show like myself; from the brief write-ups, the quick-witted Chandler’s my favourite out of the bunch, and Ross’ plight in The One With The Letter is oddly relatable.
Yell “pivot” as you move a huge sofa up the stairs & visit Chandler & Joey’s bachelor pad
Fans will instantly recognise this massive sofa set sandwiched in the corner of a staircase. You’ll be able to recreate an infamous scene right here; make sure you put your back into lifting the furniture; you wouldn’t want to invoke Ross’ pivot-fuelled rage.

For your reference, the picture you see above is the one taken by the exhibition’s photo-taking service. As you can see, they’ve gotten their angles and lighting down to a tee, so consider shelling out some money for pretty pics for the ‘Gram.

Next up, we swung by Chandler and Joey’s to see what kicking back as a pair of bachelors looks like in NYC. Feel free to lounge on the duo’s comfy recliners – these even come with leg rests that shoot up with a hefty pull of the lever on the right. Oh, Hugsy the stuffed penguin also makes a cameo here, and he’s all for impromptu cuddle sessions.

Other obnoxiously bro-coded pieces of furniture include a foosball table, Joey’s DIY “entertainment unit”, as well as a wall of Magna Doodle boards depicting Chandler’s masterpieces.
Take a peek into Monica & Rachel’s apartment & have a cuppa Joe at Central Perk

Of course, we had a chance to visit the gals’ homely abode too. Over at Monica and Rachel’s apartment, you’re more than welcome to sit down for a drink in the kitchen; just make sure to keep things spotlessly tidy for the perfectionist that is Monica.

On the left, you’ll catch yet another iconic scene – the purple door of Monica’s apartment. Unlike the one at the beginning of the exhibition, you can keep it ajar and peek in for a cute photo op. It even leads to the hallway of the 5th floor of the apartment building she resides in, complete with stairs to trot up.
They’ve saved the best for last, as Central Perk was the last set we explored. But first, take a moment to admire the muddle of posters right outside the coffeehouse.

Eagle-eyed visitors can even spot Chandler’s “room for rent” notice; if you’re in the market for a roomie, go on and tear off a strip to keep. There’s also a guitar stationed outside Central Perk’s entrance, which you can pick up to channel your inner Phoebe by croaking a tune while on the strings.

Head inside, and right away you’ll be welcomed by the warm lights of Central Perk. From the glowing “service” sign to the tacky upholstery, the set is filled with references from one of the show’s most recognisable locations.

When it comes to photo spots, Central Perk’s just teeming with them. The store’s logo hangs perfectly above an armchair, and the orange sofa makes another appearance in the middle of it all, along with props including an oversized cup that’s as heavy as it looks. You can also step behind the service counter and don the green Central Perk apron, as did Rachel in the early seasons of the show.
Shop for Friends-related merch & bring home professionally-shot pictures

After you’ve said goodbye to Central Perk, you’ll be led right to the merchandise section of the exhibition. Here, you can shop for all sorts of Friends-related memorabilia, such as apparel, plushies, tote bags, keyrings, and notebooks to name a few. Here are a couple of our favourite picks along with their prices:
- How You Doin’ ? T-Shirt: $35
- Apron: $24
- Friends tote bag: $20
- Socks: $15
- Hugsy plush: $45
- Marcel plush: $30
- Picture frame: $30
- Oven mitts: $20
- Earrings: $15

Last but not least, you can also purchase the photos taken by the exhibition’s cameras here too. Simply present your photo ticket to the cashier, and they’ll show you the pictures they’ve taken of you at the various sets. A Single Print costs $25, while the Digital Package ($35) contains a link to download a soft copy of all photos. Otherwise, go for the Full Package ($45) – it comprises a set of 4 prints and the aforementioned Digital Package.
