Seek the sun at these swimming spots

Besides amazing hawker food and towering skyscrapers, there’s another thing that Singapore has in abundance – Sunshine. Although the scorching heat that beats down on our little island can get rather brutal, it might just be a blessing in disguise.

Thanks to our government, our heartland estates are peppered with some amazingly-equipped public swimming pools, you’ll be able to have a splashing-good time, while staying free of sand and dirt. The TSL team got to try on Sunseeker’s new collection on our exploration of these 10 unbelievable swimming spots – open to the public, for all water-fanatics out there.

Talk about getting your tan-game on!

1. Pasir Ris Swimming Complex

The fun pool – complete with splash buckets and mini-slides

Located in the fairly new Pasir Ris Sports Centre, this public swimming complex has a pretty extensive range of water facilities – including a competition pool, a smaller teaching pool, a fun pool for kids, and even a jacuzzi.

On a bright weekday morning, the competition pool is just the place if you want to knock back some timed laps to improve your stamina, or for a spot of relaxing low-impact cardio. For hardcore swimmers, the competition pool specially opens at 6 a.m. on Fridays, so you can train up even before sunrise.

Don’t miss the 2 water slides just off the competition pool. The red one is a straightforward 1-story slide down, while the yellow tube slide has enough winding turns to whip your head up into a tizzy.

Address: Pasir Ris Swimming Complex, 120 Pasir Ris Central, Singapore 519640
Opening Hours: Daily, 7am – 10pm
Admission Fees:
Adults – $1.50 Weekdays, $2 Weekends

2. Wild Wild Wet

Naturally, we can’t miss out the largest water theme park in Singapore – Wild Wild Wet – on a list like this. Most Singaporeans youths will recall family trips to this water park during the school holidays, where we’d spend the whole day exploring the different attractions and getting soaked to the bone.

Even though we’re a little older now, Wild Wild Wet can still be just as fun, if not more, now that all the “big kid” rides (with the age and height restrictions) are open to us!

Amongst their many water rides, the Ular-lah is one of the most iconic. Experience the heart-stopping thrills and twists with 5 of your most daring friends as you guys shoot down this giant white water raft ride, all the way down to the landing pool below.

Grab onto a plastic donut float… and just relax.

Take a lazy float down the Shiok River as you absorb the sights in Wild Wild Wet. This 335 meter-long lazy river is the largest in Singapore, and will take you all the way around the theme park.

Designed like a mad scientist’s laboratory, every single bucket, fountain and even water pressure wheel in the Professor’s Playground can be adjusted.

With all the lightning-fast slides and towering flume rides at Wild Wild Wet, this is paradise for all water-loving daredevils. For the full low-down on the rides they have to offer, click here!

3. Tampines Swimming Complex

Rounding off our list of swimming spots in the east, is the Tampines Swimming Complex. This swimming complex is a bit more basic as compared to the rest, but its old-school vibes and open layout make it a wonderful spot to relax and get some sun at.

The wading pool has two slides that take you down from the plant-fringed rock feature.

This swim spot is comparatively more peaceful – Only small clusters of HDBs surround the pools, and feels a lot more open, with the blue sky above that’s left unobstructed.

The main attraction at this complex is the spacious lap pool. With the wide lanes, you won’t have to jostle for space, or worry about accidentally kicking someone else as you practice your strokes. #awkward

Note: The area around the swimming complex may still be undergoing construction (as of May 2016), so you might encounter some confusion if you’re coming by car or cab. Not to worry, the swimming complex is still open, and can be accessed by the sheltered walkway.

Address: Tampines Swimming Complex, 505 Tampines Avenue 5, Singapore 529652
Opening Hours:
Wednesdays to Mondays, 8am – 9.30pm
Tuesdays, 2.30pm – 9.30pm
Admission Fees:
Adults – $1.50 Weekdays, $2 Weekends

Thinking about enjoying the gorgeous Singapore skyline while taking a swim, but don’t want to pay for a stay at MBS to use their infinity pool? Here’s an alternative that’ll give you a view of our cityscape from your pool float, all without that hefty price tag!

The new Splash-N-Surf @ Singapore Sports Hub bring some splashing-good fun to town, with a lazy river, water play area, and even a Stingray surfing facility!

The Lazy River grants you full view of the Kallang and Marina areas of the city. Admire the iconic buildings and skyscrapers from your pool float as you drift on by.

You’re never too old to splash and slide

The bright yellow and orange water play area adds a splash of colour to the concrete-grey Sports Hub, and is a great way to cool off from the blazing heat.

5. SAFRA Yishun

The Yishun SAFRA is truly the hidden paradise of the North-East. Their gorgeous pool space exudes beach chalet-vibes, with rows of lush hanging greenery, rows of deck chairs and of course…

The stunning cerulean swimming pool!

The full-sized lap pool is just as stunning on a sunny day in real life, as it is in photos. This isn’t a trick of the sunlight. Hashtag: #nofilter

If you thought the crystal-blue pool was pretty, well, it’s only going to get better.

Splash it out with your best friend by the rock features and built-in slides, next to the lap pool. With the breathtaking 25-metre outdoor rock-wall from the SAFRA  Adventure Sports Centre looming in the background, it’s hard to remember that you currently aren’t in a resort.

The ingenious layout of the pools result in almost all the different water sections being connected by water linkways. This means that you don’t have to deal with scorched feet, or hopping across the burning hot tile floors, in order to reach the next pool.

Thank you, SAFRA.

6. Sengkang Swimming Complex

The North-East certainly has its fair share of swimming pool hidden gems. Not many people outside the area have been to, or even heard of , but North-East-siders who frequent the swimming pools here will agree that this place is amazing!

8. Jurong East Swimming Complex

Westies, there’s no need to lament over the length of a cross-island trip to Downtown East if you’re looking for a waterpark adventure – just head on over to Jurong East Swimming Complex for an equally awesome fun-filled time!

Even better than Wild Wild Wet?

Boasting not one, not two, but THREE super-fast water slides, you could make trip after trip and never get bored.

The Yellow slide might be the shortest, but it involves a super-sharp plunge right at the start. For those who prefer something a little less scary, try the Red Slide instead, for a gentler (but just as thrilling) slide down. These are most definitely not for the faint of heart.

And if thrills and possible spills don’t sound like your thing…

Check out the AMAZING wave pool!

With the crazy tube slides, beautiful wave pool, a kids play area, and even a lazy river that winds around the different pools, Jurong East Swimming Complex has almost all the things that Adventure Cove does, at a mere fraction of the admission price!

10. Senja-Cashew Community Club (Jacuzzi with Infinity Pool)

Located amongst the heartland HDBs in Bukit Panjang, the Senja-Cashew Community Club is one hidden swimming spot that Westies should know about. This is probably the first CC that I’ve encountered that has an infinity pool!

The view from the lap-pool, surrounded by rows of trees, is beautiful on a sunny morning. There’s nothing like perfect weather for giving you that motivation to hit the pool!

The highlight of Senja-Cashew CC’s pool area is undoubtedly their infinity pool – which even has a jacuzzi in it! After a hard workout at the lap-pool, now’s your chance to have some R&R.
