Singapore Maritime Gallery: Free Exhibition At Marina South Pier With Hands-On Games For Kids

Singapore Maritime Gallery

We’ve learnt time and again that Singapore has deep harbours and a rich maritime industry. The only time we actually catch a glimpse of it in action? When we drive past Keppel Harbour on the way to VivoCity.

See beyond massive containers and even larger cranes at the free-entry Singapore Maritime Gallery, filled with interactive exhibits and games for the kids.

How to get to the Singapore Maritime Gallery?

The most convenient way to get to the Singapore Maritime Gallery is to take the train and alight at Marina South Pier MRT station on the North-South Line. Afterwards, the museum is just a 1-minute walk away. Alternatively, you can board bus no. 400 from Tanjong Pagar or Gardens by the Bay MRT stations and alight at the Marina Sth Pier Stn bus stop (stop ID: 03419). The Singapore Maritime Gallery will then be a 2-minute walk away

There are no social studies textbooks here – kids can learn from a wide variety of interactive activities across 4 zones. Little ones may be too young to sail a ship but they can have a taste of it at the free A Maritime Quest simulator, with various virtual missions to conquer as captain.

Another fun yet educational activity the little ones can try their hand at is the Cargo Dash game. They’ll have to move shipping containers to the correct spot in the shortest time possible; up to 4 players can get in on the fun at once, which is perfect for some friendly family competition.

At the Our Lives Contained exhibit, walk through an actual 20-foot container – the same one you see near VivoCity – and learn more about the history of lighthouses. There are plenty of fun facts for the kids to pick up on, to power up their general knowledge XP.

Tides of Time

A new addition to the gallery is the Tides of Time maritime heritage zone. Here, you’ll learn more about Singapore’s role as a prosperous trading post as described by Chinese explorers in the 3rd century. The zone will sport ancient artefacts such as intricate porcelain plates, vases, and kettles, all dating back to long before the Little Red Dot’s colonial times.

Finally, make your way to the PlayPort zone for the children to flex their creative muscles. They can let their imagination take flight by constructing ships using geometric shapes on a wall, or work on maritime-related colouring sheets at the tables set up.

Bring the kids to the Singapore Maritime Gallery

Rain or shine, bring the kids to the Singapore Maritime Gallery. Even if the weather is burning hot, you’ll be chilling in the cool AC here while getting an educational experience with the little ones.

An explorer’s corner with craft activities also lies in there, so don’t forget to stop by for some doodles before leaving. Admission is free and guided tours are available as well.
