Listen carefully to what we’re saying…
The people at The Smart Local have a way with words. After all, we write articles about a myriad of things published on our site daily. But watch what happens when we were forced to make sense of random words that don’t have any business being in sentences together.
In this episode of Singaporeans Try, Keiji challenged us with several rounds of “Mad Gab!” Never heard of it before? Well, they’re verbal puzzles known as “mondegreens” that consist of a group of words that don’t make any sense when you look at it. But the trick is to say it out loud and LISTEN carefully to what you’re saying because you’ll eventually hear the common phrase that those words are supposed to sound like. For example, “Pretty Shack Scent,” when said out loud and slowly, should sound like, “British Accent.”
And in a first for Singaporeans Try, we had a very special guest try it out with us – local singer-songwriter Charlie Lim! He took some time off from promoting his new record, Time/Space to come down to The Smart Local Offices for an acoustic set and this! Watch him get VERY frustrated with this challenge in the video below.
New episodes of Singaporeans Try are uploaded every Monday, so subscribe to our channel to be the first to know when our new episodes go live! We’re also always looking out for suggestions for future episodes so if you feel free to leave a comment below the video. Don’t forget to follow us on Instagram at @thesmartlocaltv for some behind-the-scenes clips that we couldn’t include in the main video. See you next week!
