We recently wrote about the Punggol Digital District, a sustainable tech business park that’s slated to be fully operational by this year. Not too far away, and also poised to be completed by the end of 2026, is the upcoming Punggol Regional Sports Centre that’s set to be a landmark sporting facility.
Initially scheduled for completion in 2023, this upcoming sports centre is a part of Singapore’s Sports Facilities Master Plan, which was a key initiative of Vision 2030 – our national sports blueprint that seeks to foster a healthier, more inclusive society through sports while developing high-performance athletes.
Where is the Punggol RSC located, and what can we look forward to when it’s completed? Here are all your burning questions, answered.
You may have heard of One Punggol, the integrated lifestyle hub housing a hawker centre, community centre, as well as a host of facilities for Punggol residents, which opened in October 2022.
By this year, the area behind One Punggol will see the completion of the new Punggol Regional Sports Centre, built on a 30-hectare plot of land that’s bordered by Punggol Drive, Sentul Crescent, as well as the Punggol Waterway.
While it’s not at Punggol MRT/LRT Station, you can take a 10-minute walk there via a covered walkway, or hop on the LRT from Punggol MRT/LRT Station. It’s one stop to Sam Kee LRT Station, then a 4-minute walk.

As the name suggests, the Punggol Regional Sports Centre is intended to be a sporting facility that serves the North-East region of Singapore. It can’t compare, of course, to the scale of The Kallang, previously known as Singapore Sports Hub, with its 55,000 seats, but the Punggol RSC ain’t shabby either – it is set to have a 5,000-seater soccer stadium.
There will also be futsal courts, the exact number of which is undetermined at the point of writing.
On the aquatic side of things, there will be an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a practice pool, and a water sports centre; the word is that there are a total of 5 pools.
These include an inclusive 50m, 8-lane infinity pool with a wheelchair ramp, holding true to the vision that this sports hub is not only for athletes, but for one and all. Alongside it sits a sheltered training pool with underwater viewing panels, a feature not found in other swimming complexes in northeast Singapore.
Spanning 6 floors, the sports hub promises an indoor sports hall with 20 badminton courts, 5 of which double as pickleball courts, along with 3 sheltered tennis courts, 6 pickleball courts, fitness studios, and a gym.
The indoor sports hall, with 3 convertible courts which can support volleyball, basketball or netball, can hold 3,000 seats – the biggest ActiveSG sports hall to date.
Elsewhere on the premises, there will also be an 18-lane archery field – whatever your sport or fitness hobby of choice, it seems like the Punggol RSC has got it covered.
Not only is the structure, built by Hyundai Engineering & Construction, a specialised one that sees 55m long, 150-tonne heavy mega trusses, it’s also designed to ultra high-spec precision.
Take, for example, their adherence to FIFA Pro Star and FIFA Competition Level standards, or the FIFA-standard 2,000 lux illuminance in the soccer stadium. This is multiple times brighter than a typical soccer match in a stadium, which is around 500 lux.
With 20 badminton courts, it’s no wonder that attention has also been paid to the air-conditioning and ventilation systems too – temperature, humidity, and even the slightest draft from AC units can have a significant impact on the game.
With the Punggol Digital District, self-driving shuttles, and now this impressive sports hub, it seems like the rising star that is Punggol still has a long way to continue booming. We’ll definitely update this article with more information as the Punggol RSC is completed, so stay tuned.
