The thrill of roller coaster rides ain’t for everyone. From the stomach-churning anticipation right before the first drop to screaming your lungs out while conquering turns at breakneck speed, this amusement park staple is definitely not for the queasy. Well, If you’re taking baby steps to conquer your fear of rollercoasters, then the Pohang Space Walk is a good starting ground.
It’s an art installation in the coastal city of Pohang, South Korea, that’s reminiscent of a winding roller coaster track. The catch here is that visitors are actually able to set foot on it and take a leisurely stroll; here’s all you need to know about this quirky attraction.

What is the Pohang Space Walk?

The Pohang Space Walk is an interactive art installation located in Pohang, South Korea. The 333m-long attraction takes the form of a twisting set of stairs, with 717 steps in total. It is meant to simulate the feeling of swimming amidst the clouds as it stands 25 metres above the ground, and also symbolises Pohang’s prominent manufacturing and steel industries.
Admission to the Pohang Space Walk is free, but do note that children under 110cm will not be allowed to go on the installation, while kids under 12 will need to be accompanied by an adult.
How to get to the Pohang Space Walk?
Although entry to the Pohang Space Walk is FOC, getting there might pose a problem as it’s pretty far from famous cities like Seoul. For visitors coming from Seoul, it’ll take you roughly a 5-hour drive from the Incheon International Airport to reach the Pohang Space Walk. Instead, take public transport from the airport to get to the city of Pohang first.

Board bus no. 6770 at the Incheon International Airport bus terminal and alight at the Gawal-dong bus stop; the ride will take about an hour. Then, take a 6-minute walk to the Seoul KTX Station to hop on the train and get off at Pohang Station. This train trip will take about 2 hours and 20 minutes.
Once you’ve arrived, we recommend booking a private hire vehicle via Korean ride hailing apps like Kakao T to take you straight to the Pohang Space Walk, which will cost around ₩10,000.

Dubbed the “walkable roller coaster”, the Pohang Space Walk promises great views of the surrounding Hwanho Park, which also happens to be Pohang’s largest park.

However, as you ascend the steps to reach the tippy top of the attraction, you’ll find that there are a couple of different branching routes you can take to explore. Expect to spend about 30 minutes here to soak in the scenery, and feel free to take some killer OOTD shots with the towering, 360° loop in the background.

FYI, there’s a gate preventing visitors from attempting to defy gravity by walking on the loop, so don’t get any funny ideas, for your own safety. Also, you might want to time your visits well and swing by during the evening, because the installation lights up beautifully with LED lights once dusk falls.

Another tourist magnet to visit in the vicinity is Yeongildae Beach, the largest beach on South Korea’s eastern coast. It’s about a 15-minute walk away, and besides taking a tranquil beachside amble here, it also plays host to a pavilion built above the ebbing waves – another spot for stunning pics for the ‘Gram.
