Hectic work days and weekend obligations make hiding away in a quaint cafe with a book in hand a luxury not many of us can afford. If you’ve been meaning to get back into the swing of reading, but have yet to find the opportunity, here’s a piece of good news.
From now to 8th September 2019, the National Reading Challenge organised by the National Library Board (NLB) will reward you for reading with a chance to walk away with wicked prizes such as a pair of Singapore Airlines Economy Class tickets to Brisbane, tablets and more.
With every physical or digital item borrowed each week from NLB, you’ll be eligible to register and participate in the National Reading Challenge’s lucky draw!

If “read more” is still standing on your list of new year’s resolutions, then here’s your chance to strike it off and get lucky with some prizes while you’re at it.
Plus, here’s another motivating factor: the first prize is a pair of Economy Class tickets to Brisbane on Singapore Airlines. From paying the “Jewel” of Brisbane a visit at the Brisbane Botanic Gardens all the way up in Mount Coot-tha to taking a scenic cycle down Story Bridge, consider your year-end holiday settled.

If all that talk about prizes has got you fired up and ready to unleash your inner bookworm, here’s how you can participate in the National Reading Challenge:
- Sign up for a NLB membership here – if you have an existing NLB membership and myLibrary ID, skip to step 3!
- Set up your myLibrary ID online
- Register for the National Reading Challenge online
- Start reading!
Borrow at least one library item* a week – it can be a physical book from one of their public libraries or an eBook via the NLB Mobile app – and that’s all it takes for you to qualify for the grand lucky draw.
*Qualifying items include books, magazines, audio-visual materials, eBooks and audiobooks
BONUS: Score yourself some bonus entries
Each library item, be it physical or electronic gives you 1 entry in the draw per week. Chances are capped at one per week. However, to clock in the most entries for that week, simply borrow both a physical item AND an eBook.
If you’re actively monitoring your NLB account in hopes of winning those coveted Singapore Airlines tickets know this – it can take up to 48 hours for your entries to be registered, but don’t worry – they’ll get there eventually.
With such great prizes up for grabs, there’s never been a greater incentive to pop down to your nearest public library and pick up some books to read. Alternatively, read your favourite eBook or audiobook on the NLB Mobile app, in the comfort of your own home.
