What to know about National Day heartland events 2024
While going to the National Day Parade might come to mind when you think of 9th August, there’s more than 1 way of celebrating NDP. You can try camping out at spots for NDP fireworks, though that may get crowded quickly too. Heartland events are much smaller in scale – and with a real community vibe, too.
Are the National Day heartland events free?
Most of the heartland events are free, but some require a token fee to participate. The rest are fairly affordable though, with tickets ranging from $3-$8. However, there are limited slots available for these events, so it’s fastest fingers first.

Relive your core 90s sports day memories at Canberra CC Community Sports Day. You can pick from free group classes such as Zumba, yoga, and even body combat. If you’re the more competitive type, try conquering their fitness challenge to snag some prizes in their lucky draw. After sweating it all out, reward yourself with free local snacks while it lasts.
Registration for Canberra CC’s sports day is required by 2nd August.

2. Nee Soon South CC
Flea market with 150 shops

If you’d like to get some retail therapy done, take a break from shopping in Singapore and visit the range of 150 stalls at Nee Soon South flea market instead. Some preloved items you may find are vintage clothes, books, handmade crafts, and records from as low as $3, although some stalls go with a pay-as-you-like system. Just make sure to bring cash to pay for the items on sale.
As it’s held at a void deck in Yishun, it’s a different kind of experience amidst other flea markets in Singapore. On the flip side, if you want to earn some keep while doing spring cleaning, you can rent a booth for $25.

3. Tampines East
National Day festival with Old Chang Kee food truck

Tampines peeps can head to Tampines East CC for a National Day festival. While not as glam as the Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar, it’s special in its own way thanks to everyone’s favourite Old Chang Kee. The local snack brand is showing up with a food truck, where you can choose 2 complimentary food items with your ticket at $5/pax.
The ticket also entitles you to 3 food items at a local cuisine food station, an NDP 2024 tote bag, 1 gift, and game coupons for the carnival. But that’s not all – there will be live band performances, art booths, and even a Zumba class for all ages.

4. Kampong Chai Chee CC
Old-school items & cultural performances

Another larger-scale National Day celebration will be happening at Kampong Chai Chee Community Club. Turn back time to the good old days at Kampong Chai Chee Mini shop, where they’ll be serving old-school snacks and toys, like key chains. To show how proud you are of your ‘hood, you can redeem exclusive Kampong Chai Chee NDP tote bags and caps, while stocks last.
You can also sit back and enjoy the show with a host of cultural performances planned. There’s an indoor playground and animal-themed kiddie rides too, should your little ones need an outlet to muck about.

5. Fengshan Maple RN
National Day celebration at a playground

If you can’t convince the kids to give up their play time, you can celebrate National Day and let them roam free at Fengshan National Day Observance Ceremony 2024. The National Day celebrations will be held outdoors at Jalan Pari Burong Playground, so you can soak in the fresh air while enjoying performances from schools. There are also bouncy castles and game booths for the kids and goodie bags up for grabs.
There is 2-way transport provided for the public, and it will depart from Fengshan CC at 8.45am sharp.

6. Kallang CC
Observance ceremony & family carnival

For a family-friendly outing, Kallang has a National Day Observance Ceremony and Family Carnival. They also have a brisk walking programme to get those steps in. After which, take part in some carnival games and munch on some food.
All participants will get this year’s NDP fun pack too – a perfect reward for getting up early on a weekend.

7. Bukit Timah CC
Multicultural food stations & henna booth
Arts, music, and food are every Singaporean’s trifecta of pastimes, and you can get all 3 at Bukit Timah CC on National Day. Grab a bite from the multicultural food stations and sit back to enjoy performances by local homegrown buskers. Gentle warning that the food is subject to availability, so best not to be late. Ladies can also get some free beautification done at the henna booth.
You don’t have to FOMO about missing the National Day Parade. They are also screening the NDP live, so trust us when we say you’ll be screaming out National Day songs with your fellow compatriots.

8. Bukit Batok
National Day mural painting activity
Bukit Batok residents can literally leave their mark with a National Day mural painting of a futsal court. There will also be a PAssionArts Booth and an ActiveSG Dance of the Nation event to get your legs moving.
Those with kids will also be pleased to know that there are bouncy castles ($2/person) and laser tag stations ($4/person), along with complimentary ice cream for laser tag, and goodie bags up for grabs. The games are on a first come first served basis, and the minimum age to participate is 6 years old, so you and your kid can battle for some family bonding.

Let your kid relive your childhood old-school playground at Frontier’s National Day Observance Ceremony & Carnival Celebrations. It has a bouncy castle shaped like the Toa Payoh Dragon Playground. Add on live performances, grub, and even a lucky draw with attractive prizes and you’ve got a fun-filled outing for the fam. As for the food, expect a wide array of local favourites like Kueh Nonya, pau, and teh tarik.

Catch the fireworks at these 5 heartland celebrations, each featuring 8-9 life-sized displays of vehicles from SAF, SPF, and SCDF. You can also expect a slew of carnival games, live stage performances, and hands-on activities like workshops. Plus, all attendees will also get a complimentary NDP fun pack.
