About Feedlot Steak Bar and Grill

b2ap3_thumbnail_feedlotfront.jpgFeedLot Steak Bar and Grill is a modern steakhouse located just opposite Tanglin Mall that serves wholesome, hearty gourmet food. It was once known as Swiss Grill, which dutifully served their meat-loving fanbase back at Bukit Timah. FeedLot prides itself in serving gourmet farm food – they get their supplies from parent company Swiss Butchery located in the same building.

b2ap3_thumbnail_swissbutchery.jpgSwiss Butchery has a longstanding reputation as one of Singapore’s top purveyors of imported premium meats since 1995. Diners have a choice of indoor or alfresco dining. FeedLot’s indoor ambiance revolves along the lines of sophisticated-modern dining, with the use of materials such as dark wood and grey stone within its interiors. Lighting is relatively dim.

The Food at FeedLot

We started with this hand-crafted detox drink made of cucumber, celery, green apple and a splash of fresh ginger ($4++). We normally cringe when we hear the word celery, but although this drink had a strong aftertaste, it was still palatable and it was comforting to know we were taking in a good dose of vitamins with each sip.b2ap3_thumbnail_feedlot.jpgFor appetizers, we were served the Char-grilled Tenderloin Salad with Sweet Lemongrass Soy ($20) and Bone Marrow ($18).

The Bone Marrow was just heavenly. It was flavourful and topped with a slight dash of salt and capers shallots. There is a common misconception bone marrow is high in both protein and fat so some people are afraid of this. However, bone morrow is actually healthy and here’s a fun fact – Anthony Bourdain calls marrow “God’s Butter”. Others regard it as a must have superfood.

Since Feedlot is known for their excellent steaks and meats, here is a run-down of those we had for our main course.

Wagyu Ribeye MB 6/7, 280g ($89) was very tender and juicy, and it comes as no surprise that their cows are grain fed for at least 400 days. Of all the mains, I especially enjoyed this.

We also had their Prime Rib, 1.2kg ($185) and T-Bone, 500g ($75) which I personally felt was relatively tougher to sink one’s teeth into because it was quite dry and overcooked. b2ap3_thumbnail_feedlot7.jpgTheir Chicken Kebab, which felt rather tough to me as well. b2ap3_thumbnail_feedlot8.jpgThe negativity immediately vanished though when the burger arrived. The Swiss Portobello Burger ($24) consisted of grilled Angus Beef patty, topped with bacon, emmental cheese and creamed portobello mushroom, all wedged between two perfect pieces of sesame buns.

The presence of bacon in this burger left me pleasantly surprised, and the cheese was generously melted over the patty. This is the one burger you have to order from FeedLot. b2ap3_thumbnail_feedlot3.jpg

I had Classic Tiramisu ($12) for dessert, which came in a very presentable, fancy looking cocktail glass. Bryan had the Dark Chocolate Creme Brulee ($12) which came with a scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream, while our friends had Green Apple Rhubarb Crumble with Vanilla Ice Cream ($12).

While the Rhubarb Crumble was tangy, sour and wasn’t balanced off well by the sweetness of the Vanilla Ice Cream, the Tiramisu and Crème Brûlée were commendable.

The Verdict

I liked how the atmosphere at such a fine place like FeedLot wasn’t the least bit pretentious, and how the layout and decorations of the store played a part in contributing to the chic, let-your-hair-down vibe to this restaurant. If you’re looking for a relaxing place to spend some quiet time with your other half, you should check out Feedlot.

With respect to the food, there were some hits and misses. I strongly recommend the Bone Marrow and Swiss Portobello Burger because they are extremely value for money. Get some red wine to pair it up with one of the steaks offered at Feedlot and you’re all set for a romantic night ahead.
