Unique bus stops in Singapore

While the designs of the various MRT stations around the Little Red Dot aren’t particularly intriguing, those who had a say in constructing bus stops were given more creative liberty. With over 5,000 of them peppered around Singapore, some stand out with quirky features and layouts which put your run-of-the-mill roadside shelters to shame.

From one that looks like a small house to another that houses a mini library, these are the most unique bus stops in Singapore.

1. Aft Craig Rd / 05421

Aft Craig Rd

The next time you take a stroll around the outskirts of the city, keep an eye out for the Aft Craig Rd bus stop. You just might miss it, as it blends in perfectly with the rows of preserved shophouses that flank Tanjong Pagar Road.

With its special gable profile and terracotta roof tiles and ridge, it’s essentially an extension of the shophouse that sits right behind it, and it’s not alone. Several other bus stops along this stretch of the road also share these elements, as the URA thoughtfully decided to design these shelters so that they don’t stick out like a sore thumb among the conserved buildings.

2. S’goon Gdn Circus / 66271

Clinching the title of the most confusing bus stop in Singapore is S’goon Gdn Circus. As its name suggests, you’ll have to alight here if you’ve got dinner plans at the famed Serangoon Garden estate, which is well-known throughout the island for its many yummy eats.

Because there isn’t enough space to build 2 bus stops, you don’t cross the road to catch buses going the opposite way, because this one serves buses travelling in both directions.

For instance, bus 135 departs from Serangoon Bus Interchange and reaches this bus stop after about 3km, loops through Serangoon North, and comes back to the same stop at the 10.2km mark. In fact, the bus route provided by SBS’ website actually lists the S’goon Gdn Circus bus stop twice on bus 135’s journey.

As such, you’ll want to look out for the electronic displays on the buses that stop here to know which way it’s headed.

3. Valley Pt Condo / 13059

Valley Pt Condo

The Valley Pt Condo bus stop is one that’s sure to turn heads on commutes. It has a 3-pronged, “M”-shaped structure that it relies on to prop up its roof. Call it ingenious architecture or a stroke of luck, but at certain times of the day, the prongs also double as pillars that provide some shade when the sun’s bearing down on folks waiting for the bus.

4. Opp Chemical Industries / 23451

In case you didn’t know, Sentosa isn’t the only offshore island that sports bus stops. Located less than a kilometre away from the mainland, Pulau Samulun has a grand total of 3 bus stops, where workers from the nearby shipyards and factories can hitch a ride back to civilisation.

These bus stops are found along the only road on the island, Jalan Samulun, which runs across the sea and links to Shipyard Road in the Jurong Industrial Estate. The Opp Chemical Industries bus stop is built the deepest into the island, but other than the fact that its buses have to cross the open waters to get here, it’s not particularly remarkable.

5. Masjid Kassim / 83059

Over at Changi, the Masjid Kassim bus stop has been given a coat of deep emerald green that departs from the traditional metallic grey colour scheme rocked by most. What’s more, the centre of its roof features a triangular glass section, coloured to complement the bus stop’s prominent paint job.

According to the LTA, the shelter was designed to achieve architectural harmony with its surroundings, echoing the geometric arches of the Masjid Kassim mosque behind it.

6. The Synergy / 28041

Perhaps the design most ahead of its time, the futuristic-looking The Synergy bus stop resembles a UFO, with its unmistakable dome-shaped roof and large curved canopy.

While we’re not quite sure why this particular bus stop looks so alien, it’s not exactly out of place when you learn that The Synergy building it’s named after is primarily intended for purposes such as R&D, IT and software development, and product engineering.

7. Kranji Resvr Pk B / 49199 & Aft E.C. Sea Sports Club / 94099

Although the Kranji Resvr Pk B and E.C. Sea Sports Club bus stops are located on opposite ends of the island, they share one thing in common. Ferrying visitors to and from Kranji Reservoir and East Coast Park respectively, they are both bus stops built within car parks, a sight which you don’t come across often.

Interestingly, the one at Kranji Reservoir has to head further into the car park to make a 3-point turn to make its exit, so don’t get too startled when the bus gets shifted into reverse if it’s your first time on board.

8. Upp Seletar Reservoir / 48089

Yet another bus stop that serves visitors to an outdoor haunt, the Upp Seletar Reservoir bus stop finds its way onto the list for being one of the tiniest of its kind. If we’re just taking only sheltered bus stops into account, you’d be hard-pressed to find one smaller than this one, as it’s essentially just a roof over a single bench.

If we’re really getting technical, the smallest bus stops in Singapore would be the ones that consist of just a lone bus stop pole. They’re pretty rare, but you can find them in neighbourhoods like Joo Chiat and Balestier, as well as more rural, far-flung spots such as Neo Tiew.

9. Police Coast Guard / 34009

Speaking of remote, the Police Coast Guard bus stop most likely holds the distinction of being the most ulu bus stop in the whole of Singapore. Of course, it’s located in the recesses of the North, at the very end of Lim Chu Kang Road, and serves both the Lim Chu Kang jetty and Police Coast Guard base.

Only 1 bus service makes stops here: the infamous bus 975, on which passengers have claimed to witness the supernatural. That shouldn’t be too surprising, seeing that the Choa Chu Kang Cemetery Complex isn’t too far away.

The bus doesn’t stop at the sheltered bus stop itself, but at the bus lot right in front of it. After waiting for passengers to board and alight, the bus will then perform a 3-point-turn here to start travelling in the opposite direction. View the bus stop from an aerial view on Google Maps, and you can even see the worn-out road markings made by this manoeuvre over the years.

10. Far East Plaza / 09219

One of Far East Plaza’s most recognisable features that sets it apart from the sea of malls on Orchard Road is its distinctive arched roof. Not only does this mean that the bus stop is massive enough to accommodate the crowds visiting the mall on weekends, the roof is also made of translucent plastic, which allows natural sunlight to filter through.

However, one downside is that because it lets in plenty of daylight, it makes the bus stop a particularly warm one. The trade-off is definitely debatable, as we Singaporeans need as much cover from the sun’s rays as possible, seeing that we’re perpetually sweating our butts off.

11. Blk 134 (Jurong East Ctrl) / 28431

The Blk 134 bus stop in Jurong East might look unassuming at first glance, but go back exactly a decade, and you’ll notice that it couldn’t have been any more happening. In August 2016, the LTA launched the Project Bus Stop initiative, in a bid to make waiting for your buses fun.

The Blk 134 bus stop was chosen to pilot the initiative, and so the contractors got to work. The bus stop had a built-in swing, a public library, bike parking, phone charging stations, and smart panels to swipe at as you while the time away. The stop was even powered by green-fi AKA solar-powered Wi-Fi, an innovation tailor-made for sunny Singapore.

For one reason or another, Project Bus Stop started off strong, but ironically ground to a halt. The initiative was kept only at the Blk 134 bus stop, and as time went by, even it had its new-fangled features stripped. Today, the only remnants left of Project Bus Stop’s involvement at this bus stop are its unique white and orange seats and undulating roof.

12. S’goon Stn Exit F / 66389 & Serangoon Int / 66009

If you’ve ever wondered what the shortest distance between 2 consecutive bus stops in Singapore is, you don’t have to ponder any longer. Measuring a measly 54 metres apart are the S’goon Stn Exit F and Serangoon Interchange bus stops.

Of course, hardly anyone boards the bus for the sole purpose of travelling between these 2 stops. But in the name of science, a transport enthusiast on Instagram boarded bus 109 and timed the journey from one stop to the other – the odyssey took a grand total of 23 seconds, ending before they could even settle down snugly in their seat.

13. Old Punggol Road

Although it’s not in operation, you can still visit the Old Punggol Road bus stop for a smidgen of simpler times. You can spot this relic along the Punggol Heritage Trail, which opened in August 2025. It stands tall and proud with its unmistakable orange and yellow roof and amber-coloured seats, features often seen in bus stops back in the days of yore.

Unfortunately, it’s just a replica of the bus stop once found on Old Punggol Road. Oldies might remember boarding buses 82 and 83 here in the 80s, when the area was known for kampongs, pig farms, and popular seafood restaurants clustered at the end of the road.

Try spotting these unique bus stops on your next bus ride

While this decade’s cold, metallic bus stops are a dime a dozen, there are still a couple of unique bus stops to spot all over Singapore. Next time you’re on the bus, take your eyes off your screens to spot one before these quirky shelters become a thing of the past.
