If your idea of a purr-fect time is being surrounded by free-roaming felines, then spend an afternoon at Cat Safari for a dose of pet therapy. Located in the neighbourhood of Sunny Heights, this “hidden” cat sanctuary is relatively unknown and houses a lot of cats – there’ll be no need to fight with other visitors to gain their attention.

Meet various breeds of cats, mostly rescued

Cat Safari isn’t your typical cat cafe. Instead, it operates as a cat sanctuary – basically, a safe haven for rescued cats. So, don’t go looking for a food or drinks menu here.

The $10 entry fee goes into the maintenance and upkeep of these cute cats. The funds also ensure that the founder is able to adopt more cats that are in need of rescuing such as those abandoned by irresponsible owners.

At any point in time, there will be cats playing, others taking a nap, and some that will be eager for hoomans to cuddle them. Get to know each cat by name and personality type by asking the volunteers who run the place. This might make it easier to pick one to connect with and play.

The space itself is a large room that resembles a pet playground with cosy nooks for kittens to hide in and thick branches for the larger cats to sit on. The remaining cats are strutting about all over the place with their tails in the air. So, it’s up to you to be patient and wait for them to come to you.

Here’s a tip that might or might not work: if you place a medium-sized bag on the floor with the zip wide open, you could attract a curious kitty or two. Science says that cats find comfort in closed spaces which is why you often find them curled up in open boxes or climbing into empty suitcases.

A number of visitors have tried this tactic and succeeded so you could give it a shot.

Note that Cat Safari accepts visitors on an appointment basis only. All you have to do is call to book a slot beforehand and you’ll get to spend an hour with the furry kids. The space is limited to a maximum of 10 persons per slot too.

Get ready to meet the most adorable and affordable therapists that you can pet and pamper to your heart’s content.
